Thrilling! Can you believe that I saw them together onstage in New York as Brunnhilde & Sieglinde? It was before the then-new Schenk production. Good opportunity to hear them side by side. Jones had a more refulgent sound and actually more beauty in her tone. But she was unsteady and sometimes off-pitch. Behrens had a thinner, less beautiful tone, but far steadier and absolutely always on-pitch. I adored them both. When they performed, you really believed you were seeing the opera as it was being written.
