The first was repaired under warranty but this one was all me and the dealership wanted over $600 to replace it. (Plus a $180 diagnostic fee! Just to look at the broken handle!) Great video! Dealer charges $210 to do this. $68 for labor and $142 for the door handle. Both my wife’s rear doors handles have been replaced luckily under warranty. In case anybody’s interested. When we buy our Lexuses, we purchased certified used and this adds two years to the factory warranty with unlimited mileage. Which brings your warranty to six years. Then we extend with Lexus five year extended warranty, which gives us 11 years of warranty overall and this is a full warranty with unlimited miles. My 2015 is still under warranty till 2026 and my wife’s 2016 is under warranty until 2027 most people don’t know about this, but it’s absolutely worth it if you plan on keeping your vehicle for a long time

I did my replacement read door today (Lexus Tampa wanted to charge me for 1.5 hours at $200 an hour.) I got it done in 40 minutes start to finish. I'm curious, how much more complex is a driver door? Obviously, the handle is different with touch sensors on the handle. I'm sure that the front passenger door would be very similar to the rear passenger doors.

I needed this! I just noticed that the car wash broke my passenger rear door handle, but I can't prove it now since it's already been a few days. I'm guessing that this tutorial applies to all 4 doors. Now I just have to find the parts I need. Manually open the door by removing the plastic door handle from the inside. Remove the steel cable from the door able and pull until the door opens.

Excellent instructions. However, I did not use specialty plastic trim tools. I used an inexpensive plastic putty knife available at hardware store. One recommendation: he suggests during reassembly to remove the black top window seal from the door panel and put the seal on the metal door frame first. Good idea, but the top window seal was a bugger for me to get off - not as easy as shown in video. I put the door panel on the ground protected by cardboard, and pried black top window seal off at its 3 attachment points using large flat blade screwdriver and rotate the seal outwards at same time. It came out of the door panel easy that way. Of course don't break any of the plastic parts. There will still be a black metal snap at the back of the top edge of door panel. When installing the panel, first install the black top window seal onto door frame, then the back edge of door panel needs to go on from the top, then the three plastic snap holes can be pushed into the black window seal.

Howzit GXBOB! I watched your exterior door handle video and I changed all 4 handles on my 2010 GX. On my 2nd door, which is the driver side passenger door I was rushing and I think I forgot to hook up the 2 cables. I put the latch and panel back and closed the door and now the door can’t open. I rolled down the window and with a probe light i can see the cables but don know if I can hook the cables and pull it to open the door. You know which one is for the latch? Green or white? Would love to hear what you have to say about my predicament. Love your videos and please let me know soon.

You realize you can just remove the door handle plastic cover from the interior side smog gain access to the cables. Pull either cable to open your door and redo the installation.

You killed it! My daughter just broke the drivers rear handle and my wife was floored. I ordered a new handle and was just thinking how does the door panel come off. We have a 2011. Pearl with same interior. The passenger mirror stopped working a few months back too. Won’t adjust with switch, memory control, or fold in. Can I just swap the actuator or will I need a new mirror cap/housing as well? Thanks again for the great video and you really are helping people!

Hey Sean, yes i've noticed these door handles are getting destroyed by kids all over the world. Glad it helped. With your mirror, i would check your fuses if u haven't done so already, then i would tackle the motor portion. Taking the mirrors apart then putting power and ground to your mirror motors to see if it is indeed the motor and not some other loose wire somewhere. Sorry for resurrecting an old video, but I am working on replacing my handles. Rear doors, no problem. Your video was amazing! I am getting stuck on the front door handles. I can get the small part removed, but the main lever wont come free due to the touch sensor. I tinkered with it for 20 minutes and could not for the life of me figure out how to unplug it or get it so the handle will come off the outside. Any advice?

Bob, great video. I will be referencing as I need to replace the driver side rear door handle that was pulled completely out by my brother in law. The question, I have is that there appears to be a broken piece on the right side of handle that still in the door. I can't tell if this is part of the handle or another internal door part that's damaged and needs replacement. In looking at your video spot 15.53 I don't see the same piece sticking out of the door. once you remove the small door handle piece, then the handle itself. Any guidance is appreciated.

Hi Bob. Thank you for your video. It is very useful to help me to replace the two door handles on the rear doors driver and passenger side. I installed them last Saturday and they worked great. I will be replacing the front door handles on the driver side and the passenger side as well. Currently waiting for the parts to arrive. I am wondering if the same procedure need to be done to do that. Do I need to take off the door panel to replace the door handles on the front door ? I watched a video clip on youtube that someone to do this on his gx470 front doors. He did not have to take of the door panel in order to replace the door handles on the front doors. So I am expecting that would be the same as for gx460. Am I correct ? My is a premium 2012 gx460. Thanks much for all of your videos. They are really useful.

To be honest Phuong, I highly doubt it. Your door handles are hooked to linkages within your door that needs to be detached. Also, your door handles need to be able to handle the abuse of opening and closing everyday. And, If it was this easy, everyone's door handle would be stolen.

Thanks Bob for your quick reply. I watched that video clip again and it looked like that his replaced door handle does not have a sensor on it. This maybe why that is so simple to replace it. His is a 2008 Gx470 so I am not sure if its door handle has sensor or not. But what he was showing is very simple - just losing the screw on the side of the door handle and full the cap and the handle out very easily. I watched other video on youtube for guide to replace the door handles on Toyota vehicle and and it requires to remove the door panel and to detach electronic switches connected to the front door handle. I guess this switch is for the sensor on the door handle. So, looks like it is more complicated than I am expecting. I am not sure if I feel confident to do this myself. I will try to search to see if there is any video posted for this guide but there seem none out there. Thanks again.

@@GXBOB Hi Bob. The two rear door handles and caps arrived today. I started to install them around 5:30pm ET hoping to fish installing both of them but was not able to do so. Only got one in the passenger side installed. I got issue to unplug the electronic plug on the door handle. Took me awhile to unplug it. After that everything else was very simple. It was getting dark so I had to stop. I will work on the driver side door handle tomorrow. Thanks.

@@GXBOB In the GX, the driver door handle is smart and works with the key fob to unlock the door automatically. In the LX, it does this with all four doors. I don't wanna have to get my keys out in the winter if the first door I open is the 2nd row passenger doors.

My first go to would be to find GX’s that are wrecked and parting out. Especially private parties. They’re negotiable and plus you can also buy additional as back ups since they’ll be a lot cheaper than buying new at the dealership. But if you have issues finding used ones in the color you want then hit up Bell Lexus in Arizona. They’re the cheapest dealership parts with free shipping and usually have sales during holidays.

Lexus/Toyota have a solid practice of standardization across all their models. With minor changes here and there to accommodate particular trims. I wouldn't be surprised if the doors on the GX and LS are basically the same. Only one way to find out Dimitry is to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty.
