Hi and love your videos. And well explained. Jst a kittle problem. If the cam chain tensioner gasket is got gaps in and leaking oil. Would this stip the engine from starting 🤔
@VirberelloScooterTips
@VirberelloScooterTips 9 ай бұрын
Hello if you have little oil leak at the chain tensioner with gravity the oil leak will go to the stator and pick up that will get greasy and and there is a good chance that your scooter will start or will not run at best performance

I have a ticking sound coming from the side where the timing chain is i can hear it at idle and it speeds up if I rev it. I dont know sound the chain makes without tension but can that be it?
@VirberelloScooterTips
@VirberelloScooterTips 7 ай бұрын
It's possible that the ticking sound you're hearing is related to the timing chain. When the timing chain lacks proper tension, it can create a distinct ticking noise, especially at idle and when the engine is revved. It's crucial to address this issue promptly, as improper tension can lead to timing issues and potential engine damage. Here are a few steps you can take to investigate and potentially resolve the problem: Check Timing Chain Tension: Consult your scooter's manual to locate the timing chain and check if it's properly tensioned. Some scooters have an automatic tensioner, while others may require manual adjustment. Inspect for Wear or Damage: Examine the timing chain for any signs of wear, damage, or loose components. If you notice any issues, it may be necessary to replace the timing chain. Verify Other Components: Sometimes, similar sounds can be caused by loose or worn components in the engine or drivetrain. Check other parts in the vicinity, such as the camshaft, sprockets, and guides. Oil Level and Quality: Ensure that your scooter has the correct oil level and that the oil is in good condition. Low oil levels or dirty oil can contribute to timing chain issues. Professional Inspection: If you're uncertain about the source of the noise or if the issue persists after basic checks, it's advisable to consult a professional mechanic. They can perform a more thorough inspection and provide accurate diagnostics. Remember, addressing the issue early can prevent more significant problems down the line. If in doubt, seeking professional advice is always a good idea. Best of luck with resolving the ticking sound on your scooter! 🛵

What if this tensioner were installed in its locked and fully-open position? What effects would this have on normal engine performance other than a really tight chain? Thanks for any insight.

When this tensioner is on its end your motor wil break because its out of time? If yes, how to know it is on its end? Or is it, replace chain at xxxxx miles/ km.

Did you put in a larger jet size after you did that valve adjustment? I think that rejetting your carburetor might help because my scooter did the exact same thing, I would start it and when pulling the throttle your actually just opening the air way from the intake down through to the venturi, so basically you might be running either rich or lean since the valves affect the amount of air the engine gets, my issue was because I had too large of a jet size for my 150cc, I had a 145 sized jet because I installed some upgrade parts, but I noticed in the rain that the air filter clogged with rainwater, so it began running rich until it fouled the spark plug in carbon deposit, then my ignition coil died, I since then made repairs and ended up having to replace the starter clutch because I stripped it out, then I took some time to think about what was wrong, so I tried adjusting the Idle mixture screw because it can basically cut off the fuel and I could actually hear a very feint ignition sound just before the battery died, and just yesterday I finally got it to start after downsizing the main jet to a 130 from 145, I think what I need actually is a 125 carburetor jet and if it starts, test drive it, then check the plug after a lap or two, the white insulator at the firing end of the spark plug where the arc jumps should turn a milky/golden brown like a marshmellow over a fire, if it's still white the bike is lean and is far from 14.7 parts air to 1 part gasoline which is worse than running rich, when running rich the spark plug will look oily and sooty black in color due to carbon deposits forming on the plug after combustion, so if I rejet downwards to a 120 jet I think it will start running correctly but in all honesty I might either stick with the 130 and install some other parts i've got to increase airflow and balance the fuel out or I could just down jet and try it later on but i'll have to rejet the carburetor again after installing upgrade parts, I think your problem is definitely the carburetor main jet and by going up or down in jet size you might get it running normally, I once threw away a 49cc 4 stroke engine because it wouldn't stay running, the only thing I didn't try, was simply rejetting the carburetor (even after ordering a new carburetor it would not start, looking back at it now it costed my big time but I remembered just removing one air filter pad, I learned that one small change in the air fuel ratio, can make a huge difference, I love carburetors although i'm just in my early twenties and they may be a bit older technology than modern fuel injection, but seeing how carburetors can get dirty and that can completely change how the engine runs, it's exactly why they replaced carburetors but I honestly like both, my whole point of writing this is that not alot of people know that you can / have to know how to open up the float bowl of the carburetor, there's a main jet that you can change out for larger or smaller jets, it controls the gasoline going into the engine, so if you were running stock but changed anything related to air in the engine, then it's probably limiting the amount of gasoline, unlike most chemicals that are used for combustion gasoline is very very powerful, so a small amount of gasoline can release a ton of energy in the combustion chamber, so changing the carburetor jets or a small deviation in air flow is enough to cause an engine to start running poorly, the carburetor jets are actually sized in micrometers, so I could only begin to imagine how small the droplets are going into the engine at high speed, so the thing with the air fuel ratio is that if it's not balanced you probably either won't get ignition, won't get it to runn correctly, will cause catastrophic damage to the engine, or it'll start but then like after maybe 2 seconds it dies out and stops running and the gas feels like it feathers around or fluttery feeling in the throttle it's more than likely the carburetor main jet, because of a small change in the air flow through the valves I think it threw off your air fuel ratio, even if it was a small adjustment, engine's are actually pretty sensitive devices, also Virberello is really awesome, I'm sure he may have some videos that will help you fix the problem your having with your scooter, I wish you tons of luck with repairing it, or if it's already repaired thank goodness, hope this helps, stay safe riding out there everyone (never forget your helmet).
