Playing Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge again, this time on even harder mode.
I'd love to get some feedback, preferably from people who have actually played hardcore mode, on how I can improve in terms of the difficulty of the series. How I see it is if I go in blind, I would get demolished with just any regular team because that isn't how this game is designed to be played. The extra effects on the field + the restrictions give too much of an advantage to the boss. The obvious question here is, "so what? We want to see you get demolished." Well the thing is, that's not an option for me as I have a very limited time to record and cannot spend hours building new teams after a loss.
On the flipside, if I know the opponent's team, it clearly has been too easy (for now). I know someone will suggest looking at only the opponent's Pokemon and not their movesets, but that's not a thing either since I already know what every Pokemon learns and does anyways... Just not sure how to find a happy medium here.
I just want everyone to be entertained in the end of the day, that's why I care so much and mention it almost every video. People have told me to just play it how I want to play it, but that's not how I work, I want to make sure I provide the best content possible.
Radical Red includes the following features:
❤️ Every Pokemon (Generations 1-8!) available
❤️ Updated Gen 8 moves, mechanics, abilities, stats, learnsets, etc.
❤️ Stat buffs to help with balance (all Pokemon are viable!)
❤️ Mega Evolution (New Megas!)
❤️ COMPETITIVE gameplay featuring a Smart AI with comp sets, perfect IVs, etc.
... and MUCH MUCH more! Link down below if you want to download. Shoutout to the creator Soupercell and his team for an amazing game!
And thanks to you guys in advance for the support! The likes, comments, subs, etc. really help me create more and better content! Thank you! 🙏

I wonder if you could ask someone you trust to give you "clues" about the next opposing team? Maybe tell you 3 out of the 6 pokemon the bosses have? Or tell you the special effect (e.g. permanent magnet rise) but not what the pokemon are? That way they could forewarn you of something that is clearly going to result in a quick 6-0 loss, but not tell you of other surprises that might make the fights challenging but not impossible.

U can balance the thrill and countering by only bringing 2-3 mons that does the countering job, then the rest can be "logical choices but doesn't rly counter boss mons" kinda thing

I've finished it blind and it was a pain in the ass but I understand you don't have the time to do it and it might not be entertaining for your twitch viewers. I find it very easy this way but i dont know how you can do something between totally blind and this way. Anyways it's a very good content, and I'll keep watching it till the end cause your strategies and those nicknames are crazy.

Agreed, the formula now I think works and I find entertaining and good, its fun to see unique sets that you normally do not see to counter team (like the Steelix as an example), if it was blind I feel it would end up being grind out game corner get the Sudo Legendaries and hope for the best

Keep doing what you're doing. They're entertaining, but they're also very educational, showing me what I missed out on in my HC mode playthrough. Like I didn't use Quagsire at all, and I don't think I counter-teamed as much as I did.

Honestly Chizzy, just keep on the research and preparation for each battle that posses a threat. Not only is it very educational and interesting to see what Pokémon could become if GF really pulled their pants, but also very cool to see every mon’ get a shot at being a star. Also, remember that it’s still designed to be VERY difficult, we don’t want you get overwhelmed with frustration and not enjoy the hack. Regardless, it’s fantastic content from you no matter what. Cheers to Chizzy!

Rather than looking at their whole team, just look at the unique field effects they have and play around that. This is a 50/50 compromise between a 100% counter team and fully blind which to me makes the most since.

In the first few episodes you would counter-team the first boss or two but would end the episode with a blind attempt at a new boss. I thought this was a nice balance. If you pulled out a victory against that last boss, great! But if you loose you can just come back next episode with a counter-team. Your team building is great but you've also got a talent for thinking on your feet and pulling out unexpected victories.

I'm gonna preface this with the fact that I find this series entertaining any way you chose to do it and I think you're doing a great job. It's really fun to watch and I understand the effort you are putting in to making your teams and into the videos themselves. Personally I haven't finished hardcore yet, but to find the balance between difficulty and not being impossible is to start with just looking at the battle effects and the pokemon that will be in the boss battles's team while not looking at sets and held items. If that is then too easy, you could look at maybe just the battle effects and whatever their signature pokemon will be. If that makes it too hard to do realistically, it may work to try just slightly limiting how much you know about their team whether it be only knowing some of the team's moves or not knowing held items and such. I think you're doing a great job and I hope you choose whatever works best for your time while still being in a place that you want with respect to the series.

Hey Chizzy! I have played this Rom hack for the past 6 months and probably have close to 150 hours on it. I just recently won a Flying mono challenge on regular mode. I currently am doing a hardcore mode and I have found that a good nerf to counter teaming so that it still remains challenging but is not impossible is that I have chosen 2 mons to stay on the team permanently and the other four slots are free to be swapped for counters. In case you are wondering I chose expert belt heatmor and Scizor as my perm members. This of course is just a suggestion and I love the content you are currently making! Doing your homework and strategizing a cool and unique counter team is entertaining in itself!

I like what you’re doing! Part of the fun with the regional Radical Red content is that there’s such a diverse pool of pokemon used! Because it’s regional, no pokemon is used twice! And the main replay-ability factor of Radical Red is that you can potentially use all the mons! They’ve got unique buffs and so almost all the pokemon are viable and so you want to play again and use different pokemon! Hence the success of this game! So I like what you’re currently doing. It’s like the regional videos, where you plan and choose unique things to use and show off to us. And then go to the battle y’know. So counter teaming is nice! Maybe show some highlights of your team building, like “aha!💡“ moments, catching new members (just the moment that you throw and they stay in the pokemon, again it’s just a highlight), etc. And try to use a variety of pokemon, catching a lot of pokemon and showing you catch them is a nice way to introduce them, rather than just saying “I caught this and added it to the team because xyz”.

Hey Chizzy, I played Radical Red Hardcore mode blind with a constant casual Mono-Kanto team (I used Slowbro/D-Nite/Mega-Kang/Clefable/Jolteon/Nidoqueen, which wasn't even a particularly good team mind) and it wasn't too difficult outside of the Elite four, so I'm not entirely sure if you'd get "rekt" if you just used a casual balanced strong team. I guess my only recommendation really is maybe instead of fully counter-teaming, you can bring maybe 4-5 constant mons in each battle, and then have 1-2 interchangeable mons which can help you for specific battles if you really feel that you aren't able to create a constant team that is able to beat the game without constant retries. The only times I "counter-teamed" was when I brought 4 Golem's for Koga, and then early game Brock.

Hey Chizzy, I think counter-teaming the gym leaders (including Johto) and bosses while playing the rest of the game blind is a good balance (you can keep those route trainer mini-bosses blind too if you want). I also think streaming the planning on Twitch is smart because you get a lot of input/interaction with your community as well. Great moves, keep it up -- proud of you :)

I do enjoy the videos even though you have been dominating very hard, but I also agree that it hasn´t been exciting so to speak. I also watch PC´s videos (at least a few of them) and since that´s a nutzlocke and so on that is just more entertaining for it. I really like your character and the way you approach the game, but I had more fun watching your monotype challenges, because they felt like they required more trial and error and we got a bit more attached to single team members that were used more often. Thinking about that; maybe you need to think of some kind of restriction in team building because that would stop you from litterally countering every one of your opponents pokemon in a 1v1 matchup. You know, I could see you not being allowed to use a type twice in your team or you choosing one type to monotype-battle against your opponent to be quite fun (after all, your opponents are monotyping for the most part as well). I am sure you are going to come up with better ideas than me. Wish you the best, cheers Just had another idea, maybe you could use a system where you can substitute 3 team members between boss battles (or however you think makes it interestingly hard while not being impossible) - thus you not being able to counter-team completely while still having a chance to check the most broken mons of your opponent.

Playing hardcore blind is definitely a pain, going forward you could play by pseudo nuzlocke rules and make due with a set amount of encounters per route (although it’s a bit late for this) just to limit the variety of Pokémon you can bring and increase difficulty. Otherwise go on with what you’ve been doing and come back later with a painful nuzlocke series 😏

I feel as someone who has played hc mode, you NEED to counter team to win until you beat koga. To the people who say “iT’s tOO eaSy” , just reply to tell them to go blind. It’s interesting seeing your counters to the bosses as I kept drawing my roster from a set of specific Pokémon after the 4th gym. The advantage doesn’t count as rr itself has a cheating ai, knowing your moves and your team, so all your doing is leveling the playing field, as you said

RR is different from something like Emerald Kaizo. While the latter is ridiculously difficult obviously, it’s not downright unfair like RR is. You can still play through EK blind and see success with sheer skill and good team building alone. On the other hand, RR has random non-canon buffs (most of which are stupid anyway) that simply renders the boss fights undoable while blind. If it means anything, I’d much rather see you get 6-0’ed in Emerald Kaizo than Radical Red. The way you counter team is fine. Although one (dumb) suggestion as a compromise would be to bring 3 Pokemon you would ordinarily bring to the next boss while going in blind and use the remaining slots to counter team.

Ok chizzy, from someone who already beaten hardcore mode several times(With monotype), I think a balanced way to keep it challenging, but not time wasting for you, you should: Build a team blindling, only looking first at the field effects, then check the team and see if something absolutly 6x0 you, if yes, just make some changes.(Srry for bad english)
@dustinarnold5569
@dustinarnold5569 3 жыл бұрын
It would be up to you being honest but choose 3 blind that are definitely on the team then you have 3 to choose as your counter mons. Makes it so you can’t counter the full team and it may make things closer. If it’s to hard you can go 4 counter picks. If it’s to easy you can drop down to just 2 counter picks. Makes it so you can’t waste a mon just to counter one solo but it would take a bit more strategy. Just a thought that may be fun

What about just looking at the terrain effects? You will still be able to build a team because you could think “oh surge has electric types but I can’t use ground moves” but it won’t be as overpowered as having a counter for every single mon and their moves.

When I played hardcore what I would do I’d look up the general gimmick/field effect for each trainer and brainstormed around that. In my opinion the E4 is the true challenge and even after koga things get more hectic (legendary spam and stuff). I think at this point I’d 5v6 koga and go into fights maybe knowing the field effect and lead/ace after that.

The only thing I have to say on the front of how you're handling your content is that, if it isn't fun for you, what's the point? If you feel like counter-teaming is fun, keep it up! If you want to show the initial attempt blind and then show the powered up second try, great! Just make sure it's fun for you at the end of the day.

I have no idea how useful it would be to do this but if the fights are seeming too easy but going in blind is not an option maybe bringing one or two pokemon that aren't quite as useful in the fight. Since each team is built to counter the set up of whatever boss fight you're facing bringing a mon or 2 that not necessarily get countered by the opponent but you might have a harder time finding a use for them in the fight could make it a bit more interesting

I haven't played hard-core mode yet but I did play through 2.2b and I get how difficult can be without counter teaming. So maybe to make it more challenging maybe add some restrictions to your teams when building. Maybe not. Reusing any Pokémon you've used in the past 3-4 boss battles maybe? Then you'd have to plan for multiple battles so you don't use a key mon for one battle on the battle before? Might add more diversity.

I don't like the modifications for this Hardcore mode.. it's not realistic..yes, it's far harder.. but permanent trick room, sandstorm etc, while we can't use our weather strats etc.. it doesn't really teach u anything bcuz u will never play in that environment outside of Radical Red.. I loved how it initially stood for giving casual players a taste of competitive style Pokemon, picking teams simply to counter other teams etc..

Let your viewers pick your team for you, but you can't see the gym leaders team. So you know that the pokemon in your party counter their team but you don't know for what pokemon

Use permadeath, can still counterteam, but not having certain Pokémon would make it a lot harder

Only select 3 mons specifically for counter teaming, and the rest mons with New Abilities/forms/move

On my last 10min of work, but screw work! I rather watch a chizzy video to end the workday! About your description, this may be a dumb idea but maybe looking at only half their team? I think going blind for route bosses only is a good option too.

Idk exactly how you would only find this info without spoiling anything else. But maybe go in knowing only the lead mon and any extra pre battle boosts ( permanant terrain, permenant magnet rise). No looking at held items on enemy teams. You could also have the docs on the side and as each mon comes out see what it has and see how you can work around it with what you have.

Maybe bring 5 Pokémon to counter team, and just bring 1 garbage Pokémon. You get so few dislikes on your videos, anyway, and people will still watch your videos because it's Radical Red. Even if the boss fights are too easy, you can use that to your advantage with clickbait titles like "BLAINE IS SO EASY!" or "I 6−0'd JASMINE WITHOUT BREAKING A SWEAT!" to get more views and money.

I really like the way you play these tbh. I find it very satisfying to see such insanely busted teams get destroyed with such a huge disadvantage towards the protagonist. You do an excellent job showing off these sick new abilities and combos as well. I wouldn’t change a dam thing 👍🏼

Maybe just look at what theme the opponent's team is, like if it's sand or trick room or whatever.
