I think it's nice that most of them idolized Kohei Uchimura. The guy was the epitome of the nice balance of execution and difficulty. And if Kohei had to pick one over the other, he'd pick execution any day. Also love that Marcel Nguyen is mentioned here. Him and Hambuchen were key members of the German team.

Western media barely gave Kohei Uchimura his flowers . Also Carlos asking if the interview will be in Nihongo is a flex is did not expect . We love a good Polyglot king.
@bilogskii22165 ай бұрын
Kohei is King but Yulo getting votes even before getting any Olympic medals is a flex on itself.

King Kohei indeed. I'm surprised at the ones who said Alexi Nemov. They don't look old enough to remember his gymnastics lol

There are so many "Legends", but one must have been born before 2000 to have seen or heard of them. It's like asking someone their favorite movie, and they name something that was made 2 years ago. That's fine and good if they like it, but it betrays a lack of historical perspective and depth of experience. There are a lot of gymnasts that are famous for more than simply winning a lot of medals. I suppose they are honored every time someone performs a skill named after them.

@@karyon1007 Maybe! But honestly doing gymnastics throughout my life almost none of my teammates followed the sport as a hardcore fan to be honest. You'll notice that the top repeat, Kohei, while probably an earnest answer for most of these guys, is like the equivalent of saying your favorite basketball player is Kobe or Shaq -- I just mean it's not giving "gym fan" vibes.

I was first surprised by Stephen’s answer then I realized that I had no idol either when I was a kid. I occasionally watched gymnastics at the Olympics but I forgot gymnasts names very fast. It’s just when I retired that I started actively following gymnastics, watching all competitions and knowing all the athletes names. My idols are younger than me actually 😅
