I'm a white guy in my 70's from the east coast. I remember seeing pictures of the 64 Gypsy Rose. I had a '70 Camaro I was trying to transform into a low rider after seeing pictures of Gypsy Rose. I never quite got it finished but my intentions were good. I've seen a lot of very cool custom cars in my lifetime but Gypsy Rose will always be my favorite. There needs to be a statue of Jesse Valadez. My respects to the Valadez family. God bless you Jesse. My God hold you in His tender loving arms.

I saw this car in DC when they had it displayed in a glass case on the national mall last summer. Local Lowrider clubs from all over the mid atlantic came here to see the car. I had heard of the car before from reading lowrider mag growing up but I never thought that I would see it. I feel privileged to have seen this car in person.

Nice to see this, Jessie jr. Is a really nice guy and really takes ownership of his role in the lowrider community. I actually met him in Vegas at a restaurant, he was there for a big lowrider show and I was there for a carshow as well (Supras in Vagas). We started talking in the line, joking about and this guy had people coming up to him giving him props, I found a table place was full Invited Jessie and friend or family to sit but they found someone that saved them a table. He and his friend called me over; I was alone so they invited me to have dinner with them. While eating people still came up to him to sign all kinds of merchandise, so I asked him if he was famous he said sort of. So we started talking about L.A., Supras and Lowriders over Tacos. Cool guy!

Love that it gets recognized by the LOC. Awesome story and culture. I think it's idea and translation gets reflected into other areas of automobile modification like springs, coilovers, and airbags and might reflect the genesis of the modern day car culture. Not quite as specific, but certainly just as passionate in some cases.

Nice watching this. Some of the videos brought back memories. Yep, I'm old enough to remember much of this. I member! I don't think I ever met anyone from the Imperials. I do recall, they were heavily into their cars. Super nice stuff. We all had the meeting and the clean car rules, but they really went all out. Good times if you didn't experience the. Barbeques in a backyard. Big O get together at Elysian Park. Can't remember for sure, but that party might have went a little bad. Get togethers with ladies car clubs at barbeques. a lotta lip locking on the Boulevard, on New Years. Everybody swapping spit then!!. I was poco Feo at the time, so I didn't participate much. Meeting people on the Boulevard, switching numbers or pulling over to the side and getting close. Hear about a house party somewhere and shoot down there. Most of the time, there was a party, but not always. Then some of us got a little older and started hitting clubs in our 3 pieces. Not so Feo anymore and making up for lost time. The Gold Dust, later La Pantera Rosa, The Hot Potato, Quiet Cannon, THE PASTA HOUSE, The Ivanhoe on Las Tunas, The Turning Point, Circus if you didn't mind driving. Great times. I don't think it's like that today, but I hope it is. Alas, I'm back to Feo again. LOL!!

Homie, one time I was dealing with a lot of stress and had a panic attack while driving through East L.A. on a Saturday night. So I parked and went for a walk to calm down. One block had like 4 parties going on....a baptism, a quinceñera and a couple of birthday parties. I walked up to one of the parties and ended up getting served a plate of birria, tortillas and beer. It was awesome!!
@twoweeledsoto6072 Жыл бұрын
@@DucatiPaso750 Sorry I didn't see this till 5 years later. But your story isn't a big surprise. To most of us, if someone's cool and will contribute to keeping the party going (you), come on in! The beers over there. The food line starts here.

Very well done video. Great images, interviews, music. So there were TWO Gypsy Rose Impalas owned by Jesse Valadez, not THREE. There was the '63 that was vandalized by gang members, then the car that we all know, the '64. I saw it first in Hot Rod Magazine's low rider article, and even that one little photograph had a lot of impact. When I later saw the car in the opening of Chico and the Man it was very familiar, locked into a time and place. It makes me happy to know that the Rose will be part of the National Historic Vehicle Register. Remember what Indiana Jones' nemesis, Belloc, said? "You and I are passing through history. This IS HISTORY."
