Bravo tutorial!! A musician is one who organizes sounds, noise, pitch, tones, space and time. Pro tip: Even though the notes and beats usually get all the attention, the space, gaps, rests and margins between those notes and beats "is" music also. It's important that even the "silence" has to be heard. And there are moments when you also have to control your adrenaline when performing. A great deal of music also involves "ghost notes" and/or the "placebo effect".

Thanks a lot! Really. I am practicing it. Just a little feedback about video edition, in 1:48 It might be interesting to place the thumbnail (of the left hand) on the right side of the screen. And the zoom in (of the right hand) on the left side. Basically to keep seeing a guitar, and not have to cross my eyes in an opposite diagonal to the one I'm used to. But It's a really tiny detail compared to the valuable musical information! Thanks.

Very useful stuff. Thanks! I must admit that I'm a bit baffled though. I have just spent many years learning the "Gypsy" right hand technique; i.e., predominantly down strokes, and down strokes on all string changes, as employed by Stochelo, Angelo De Barr, Fappy, Tchavalo, etc. Now, in your case, that's all out the window. Any comments?
@JoschoStephan2 жыл бұрын
Hey Nathan, yes you are absolutely right - but this lick isn't a gypsy-swing lick, so we can open up our technique and use alternate picking. It's a lick in the style of Tommy Emmanuel ;)

@@JoschoStephan Thanks for the reply Joscho! I didn't want to throw the baby out with the bath water; That makes it perfectly clear. If this lick is good enough for You and Tommy, I can certainly abide. Cheers!

guys, I have a question. Please, help) It is Dm harmonic, right? But why we can play it over A7?
@MJCGuitar Жыл бұрын
It has the C# in it, (3rd string, 6th fret), which is the 3rd of the A7 chord. Being that the 3rd of the chord is the note that determins the quality of a chord, the D harmonic minor scales works over the A7 chord with no problem.
@amrshlomr21 күн бұрын
is this a D minor scale? if so, what is that one note that's not in there? the 6th fret of the g string

Hey Joscho. But mm as far as I can see you`r showing your own pick-style. For example when you pick the 4 note (A on the first string) well then you do it with an upstroke and not with a downstroke, wich woukd be the standard way to pick in gypsy jazz picking -

Hey, sure. There are two options if you have problems reading music. 1) Just watch the video lessons - everything you need to know will be explained to you - note by note ;) 2) Use the TABs in the sheet music.

I am wondering what makes this a lick over A7, given that it seems to be based on a Dm scale (?), hence, is it because as D is the V of A it resolves to A? If so, could I construct a major lick that did the same by playing C sharp instead of C? After several hours I can play this about as fast as Joscho's slow speed, perhaps a little faster. I do however either use my fingers or my thumb as I can use a pick to save my life as I will always drop it after a bar or two. I have never figured out how people manage to hang on to them for minutes.
@richardturbine17692 жыл бұрын
I will answer my own question then, now I realise that I was confused about my modes, momentarily. The lick is based on A Phrygian, that is why it supports A7. I have worked at this for a week and the best I can do fingerpicking is about 100 bpm it is however my LH that is slowing me down as I can fingerpick with two fingers much faster.
