Yup! That's the Stingray and the Maltida is the VP70.

Its a featureless G36 but it has insane reliability and accuracy. You can feed it any kind of ammo even if its polymer ammo. Give it some 69 grain federal and you'll get .5 MOA. Its a go to rifle in RE4. Sadly you do need to pay a little extra to make this gun more then a bench rifle....it is a bench rifle btw... Thread the barrel, add the trigger guard bolt release, add the bipod system, install a different buttstock, drop in a nicer trigger, replace the bolt if you want double stack, and change the magwell for double stack. Its a lot of work sadly but its a nice little rifle for people with extra money who want a range toy with amazing accuracy.

As retired U.S. Army EOD, we worked with the Germans a lot in Iraq/Afghanistan, and they were not too fond of the G36. They cited malfunctions and the polymer handguard would melt from sustained fire. I don't see this being a problem with the civilian version not being in combat conditions or heavy sustained fire.

@@Blackbomber200 I can only convey what people have said about them is all. I could care less as we used M-4's, so I have no firsthand experience with the G36 in combat. FYI every weapons system has failures, manufacturing issues, and most importantly gripes from the troops who use them. You keep on policing the internet keyboard warrior.

To each is own. There will always be haters. I have a SL8-6 and it works perfectly for me the way it is. Trijicon optic and a Magpul bipod. Congrats to all of the commentors who have Tommy Built $$ and live in a less restrictive State.

In Germany we have the HK243 (HK293 for the US) which probably is the weapon you guys want

These have potential as East Coast varmint rifles. I wouldn’t put any more money in them after threading the barrel. The G36 conversions are a pain, hit or miss function wise, and we might very well see HKUSA just go ahead and make semiautomatic G36’s here. HKUSA isn’t putting all that effort in Columbus, GA to just keep half-assing the US market.

The Canadians got the SL8-5 which is takes the double stack magwell… from there the options really open up

I just noticed a reputable local firearm dealer selling these new for $1600, which seems a deal given H&Ks other new rifles go for between $5000 and $10,000. Honestly, if I wasn't looking at a Steyr AUG or Tavor X95 (about the same price), I might be seduced. It's for fun, though, and not any serious duty. Not with that mag and barrel device restriction. But, it's like the AUG. It might be an old design, but it's still from the future and SHOULD be updated and refined like Steyr did with the AUG. I'd buy one in full feature mode!

You can find them cheaper for $1300 or less. Palmetto State Armory has sold them at times for $1000.
