When I was married the In-laws used H&R Block. we tried it n they screwed everything up n the IRS themselves got us over $5,000 more in our return than H&R Block had figured. NEVER Use H&R Block!

Jack Schwartz thanks for the info. I use to run into Jacksons Hewitt to get mine done and the amount you get charged is ridiculous. Especially when you consider the return you get. Turbo tax so far had gotten me the most back.

I did my tax return just yesterday and I tried 3 different tax’s services 1 Liberty tax Service witch was charging me 378$ & was only gonna get me 1.4k$ on my fed 2. turbo tax witch was charging me 125$ but was getting me 0$ zip nada I actually had to pay the irs lol and 3. H&R Block witch got me 2,200 on my fed return and only charged me 125$ so for now it’s H&R Block for me

I didn’t have to do any paperwork. I own stock, have a retirement account, and a W-2. They asked for numbers, but no paper-items and it took maybe 30minutes tops. Unless you’re a freelancer or self-employed or own a LOT of stuff (homes, cars, etc) taxes are a breeze to complete. I used TurboTax

I started using TurboTax last year and it was so easy, simple and they help you get the biggest return possible. I definitely recommend it to anyone, and it’s free, so that’s a plus for us broke college students

Went to H&R to make an amendment to my tax return. The guy didn't have a clue what to do and didn't ask his peers for any assistance. That was the first and last time I tried H&R - they are BLOCKED!

I like TurboTax but they aren't free. It was $60 to file my return, $50 to file my state, and a $40 processing fee for choosing direct deposit. I'm going to try H&R Block next year.

I think I will try TurboTax for 2020. I use to have a friend who would do it personally which was great returns then I tried HR Block for two years and didn't get much back and now I have two workers who told me TurboTax always worked best for them so I'll give them a go this year.

Just my 2 cents, tried H&R block for download 2017 couldn't get the software to load correctly called support 20 minutes to get a human on the phone , explained the situation got put on hold for another 5 minutes then was told I needed to call the IRS. Waste of money went back to Turbo Tax never had an issue.

You should get the same return from either site if you put in the right info I saw a comment below asking which service gave a bigger refund lol u get what u get if u enter the proper info the service doesn't determine how much u will get back it's set in stone basically

Definitely recommend. Turbo tax was super easy it’s my first time filing I’m 20. Just make sure you answer everything correctly. Got my return approved in minutes. Love turbo tax

Both are user friendly, Turbo tax is good for for those who want to thoroughly report a ton of itemized deductions and H&R seems to be more user friendly when lowering tax liability and it’s cheaper to self file

I tried credit karma one yr and got more back that yr when I started selling it change so I go to hrblock and do mines for me. I paid and paid the irs but they sent me a $900 refund back

Has anyone tried H&R Block/ turbo tax for residing in one state but working 100% in another state? For some reason, both the softwares are doubling the income for the resident tax and reporting a huge amount to be taxed for the residing state.. there was no option to edit.. I double checked the state wages imported automatically in the screens and it was correct.. so not sure why it is adding the social security wage and the state wage to report a doubled number as my income which resulted in showing a huge amount to pay to the residing state , which did not make sense, as I don’t work there at all.

Idk if anyone will see this now but I've always used TurboTax. This year made me switch. In order to report my student loan interest paid I had to upgrade, then pay state separate over not alot of money. Up until the end it won't let me file without upgrading cause of it. H&R block however took it in stride. Exact same federal and state money wise. Just save on the 80 bucks to upgrade and file state.

Good review and feedback of both experiences. Successful people only use qualified advice. Use a specialist like a real tax accountant. Properly qualified and experienced in accounting. Ignorance or taking advise from the street is not a legal defense.

IRS.gov gives a few "free" options. Been using TurboTax for years but now my granddaughter is living with me so I have a dependent. I ran the figures thru TurboTax and the free service (I want to say OTS?) and TurboTax would only give me great deduction if I paid the upgrade! Went with the free, got over 2k back and opted for a check. IRS accepted. I had my taxes done years ago at HR block..before online was a thing..and they actually messed up my taxes, badly. They had me owing over 4000.00! Took my papers to an accountant, filed an ammended return and got 3k back. Try the free ones.

About the same. Don’t waste your time importing etc to save only about $40 with TurboTax. H&R Block more streamlined and easier to navigate. Also, TurboTax was actually higher in the end when adding fees before completing.

Last year I started the process on Turbo Tax, when I saw the amount I was getting back I clicked out of the site and went to H&R Block. They asked the same questions, punched in the same information. Come to find out I got almost the exact amount, but owed around $100.

Better yet no mention that the government already has your W2, 1099, 1098, etc and could do your taxes for you all you would need is to submit and charity or Medical as amendment and it could all be free except big Tax Software firms lobby to keep this from happening.

No one will ever read this, but I was a diehard TurboTax fan up to 3 years ago when they started getting greedy and charging for forms. I switched to H&R Block, and the previous year Turbo Tax file converted with no issues. I purchased the Turbo tax program this year because they has a gyrations rebate at a Target with free federal eFile. The program could not convert the 2017 H&R Block file, so ended up spending time reentering info off W-2’s. The biggest scam is they want to charge $24 to eFile your state, but when you say no thanks, I will print it out and mail it myself, you can not locate anywhere in the program to print it out, if you look under turbotax help topics, this is Avery common issue, and you know intuit hopes you will get frustrated and just pay the $24 to e-file ... this is such an obvious money grab by turbo-tax 🙄

Sunbelt Loan company filed my income taxes.They did the filing completely to send me a income tax return that the 1st Financial Credit Union where I bank has been able to track my debit, & savings & checking what I can plan to SAVE for the Cash Deposits, accrued interest rates & future personal loans to help consolidate Especially the short term loan payments I will owe & close since I had to apply for extra spending this 2021-2022.

They claimed they sent 2 check's. So for year's I have been calling and they keep giving me the run-around. . 8 year's later Still no check .

I dumped Turbo Tax a few years back when they tried to screw their customers by suddenly charging $50 more for something that was included previously. (Schedule D, I believe... Income property forms). They later apologized, but I believe you still have to pay more for something that is free in HR Block software. Once a company screws loyal customers, I say, "screw THEM". So I will never, ever, use Turbo Tax. HR Block works, and I can drop into a HR Block shop if I have a question. For FREE.

I may not like H R Block, Hewitt or some others but at least I can get a live signature of authenticity, a person and a stand by my side guarantee based on the prepared work they did on my information...no friggin' scams. If I want backroom scams and cons I can cheat the taxes myself. At least this way I can get the damn things sent into the IRS. Late fees and penalties are actually less than HR Block, Hewitt and the others...and its done, RIGHT THEN!

Its *$59* for filing the federal return with only a w2 form and $59 for filing the state return. *$118* for both federal and state with one w2 form. If you have more income then the federal is *$99* plus the state *$59*. State price stays the same. If you bring tuition statement, paid student loans or received retirement income its *$139* for federal plus *$59* for state. If you have dependents its *$169* for federal plus *$59* for state. If you are a homeowner and paid mortgage interest its *$189* for federal plus *$59* for state. Any other forms on top of that cost extra. Any credits you get will cost extra. You could walk out of there paying *$400* or more depending on how complex your tax return is. Any products you buy cost extra. Up to *$55* and if you pay out of your refund not up front it's *$40* on top of you total fees.

Fidelity Investments give you free H&R, pay at end it you like it.I tried it ,as you progressed it would say it needed $15.I agreed and a little later it needed $15 more.Would not allow you to add RMD to my return.Reading Amazon feedback,others have same problem.Amazon would not allow me to leave this feedback.If you are over 55,AARP will do your Fed&State,E- file free.Call your local library for appointment.
