This engine has been on the bench before with less than spectacular results. We'll dig into it and see what's been causing issues and repair them. I was so excited when this engine finally arrived, but my excitement quickly disappeared when I realized that I bought another project that was "ready to run". Here we go again, more "free" R&D for Jin!

Nice that you worked on this again!

I felt a little sorry for it just sitting in the corner watching other projects on the bench come and go. So I figured it deserves yet another chance. Now that it will run on both cylinders and not pee on the bench, I will continue to tweak it in and I'll build a screen cooler tank for it also. I'm glad that you enjoyed the video, thank you for watching and commenting 👍

Impressive looking engine, imagine making one of these from scratch! - Cheers Jim

I could only imagine the time that would involve, not to mention the "damn, so close" pieces if I made one myself.

@@steam212 I don't work to tolerances that close 😐 Hope the heat that I'm reading about in the news in the Northern Hemisphere isn't affecting you too badly.

Really nice engines, quality control is a bit lacking though.

I was waiting for this video! Good Job! Well done. Idles like a charme. Thanks for sharing. Does your Benz Gasmotor run in the meantime? Its a little bit tricky to adjust the gas mixer. Mine is running now at 700 rpm and I don’t touch the mixer again😀.

I haven't started the Benz model for a while, but I agree with you 100% I don't adjust my mixer either once it's set. I'm glad that you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching, commenting and enjoying the hobby 👍

1:02 Oh nice fiddlefarting with this thing again. I need to work on my cison flathead four. It has a similar issue of water-and-combustion-chamber mixing. The head gasket is so damn thin at the back where the water jacket passes up past #4 cylinder that, on mine, it just gave up even trying. My fix is gonna be to flip the gasket around to block that port off, then drill a couple of bungs in the back of the block, head, run a bypass hose.

Sounds like a good plan of attack, have you tried loctite 515 with the gasket? I have used it many times and have had great results every time. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

18:35 It occurs to me that a gasket around the entire face would be a better idea than all these o-rings.

nice engine but it seems a bit fickle

I agree with you. I still want to see if adjusting the valve and the ignition timing will help, but I'm pleased that it runs on both cylinders now and is housebroken so it doesn't pee on the bench anymore. Thank you for watching and commenting 👍

Excellent, but too intricate for my liking!

It's just an engine, small and fussy, but all the same principles apply. If you can fix a big one, these are the same. I'm not gonna lie to you, this one frustrated me so I took a break from working on it but it's a good running little model now. Don't be too worried about model engines, it's a great hobby. Thank you for watching and commenting 👍

16:27 it makes little difference. My M17b is an oily friggin mess with plenty under the big end and it still knocks like a door to door salesman on crunch week.

Have you tried to surface the mating surfaces on the big end, then bolting them back together and truing the bearing surface with a ream?

@@steam212 If it ran worth a fuck I might put in the effort to tighten up the big end 🤣. Far as I'm concerned any engine so poorly designed and manufactured that putting ANY load on it causes it to immediately shut off ain't worth a lick of effort. Just gonna run it till it yeets a rod.
