We do, but what we men understand about this song is that he is clearly and powerfully stating what's going on inside our heads. We have heard this, seen it in movies, news, peers and even grade school. And yes, many of us have been conditioned by our own families of origin. That's why a man who is married to someone who doesn't treat us this way can still be massively impacted due to the familiarity of this. It's still there; even if we have overcome it it is still there.

I worked my butt off to provide, I became disabled due to a genetic disorder, I feel less loved, and no longer respected as a man. I try to do everything I can, but Disability doesn't pay even a quarter of what I made. This songs burns me inside. Talking about it makes you weak, others have it hard too, etc..

Hug a man in your life and/or remind him that he is more than "just a man" and make your support available. He might not take you up on the offer but it doesn't hurt to let him know. Is it only men who deal with this? No. But when we ladies have these feelings of weakness and/or inadequacy, we don't have to fight against the societal pressures quite the same way, our entire lives. I hate crying, in front of someone even more so, but on the occasions it couldn't be avoided I knew I would only get support, even if I still felt ashamed of showing that weakness. Many men can never be truly sure of that support and likely expect ridicule instead. I think this is slowly changing, but too slowly. Everyone... male, female and everything in between needs and deserves that unconditional support somewhere in their lives. Try to be that to at least 1 person and the world will become a brighter place.💜🫂
