I like to review devices straight out the box as they are intended.... For streaming. It could be easier using other remotes or not showing how things unfold in real time, but I like to be do things from a users perspective and show you how things pan out with an honest opinion 🍻

you didn't give a HONEST opinion or a real test, my suggestions do NOT require modification and are NOT expensive, you can buy cat5e for a dollar here if you don't already have plenty laying around. Besides if its not handling the 8k video even with a LAN cable then it likely never would. You were able to have it handle 4k, that's still a lot more than many other boxes would do. And besides a user WOULD find its option to check for updates as soon as it was out of the box and online. So that WOULD be realistic.

The only possible reason to buy this box is that it is powerful enough to interpolate 1080p/24Hz to 60Hz in SVP on the fly. Yet the interpolation quality is not as good as what even year-old RIFE models generate. Probably Orange Pi 5 Plus would be a better choice at this price and with the same SoC (which is still the most powerful ARM option on the market). At least it is much better customizable, has decent Android TV options and a sort of community. An intermediate PC with something like RTX 4090 can be used with it to interpolate/upscale all incoming video streams with new RIFE models. It can be done either with stream redirection or via HDMI-in board (AFR/auto resolution need to be enabled on the box for it to work).

I've been trying to connect a USB encoder to this H96 box. But when I do the board lights up red the LEDs light up on the buttons. But I can't get the buttons to do anything. What do you think may be the causing this

Hey the h96 is great performance great but like you said the controller is shite. I've just ordered replacement controller for 3.99 of eBay. Which works on this device.. My one question is BBC I player doesn't work on this device unless Ur using it from Google play store. I'm stuck I don't know when it install from Ur site it Installs but won't open so I cany use it on this device. If you could do video explaining how to put BBC on it and open it. Thanks

I have had a few boxes myself and find them ok but not great. The remotes are ok but I have to press the mouse button to change the pointer to move the screen. The pointer moves off screen and you have to press it till it comes back. Some boxes have problem with memory as well. I do like the access to the mobile style app store and prefer it what you find on a Chromecast and Firestick. I also find that certain apps like Netflix cannot be accessed by the home screen.

I bought a few of these boxes from eBay and Wish and they are just ok, not great. The layout is good and I like how you have access to the Play store, but you have to keep changing the mouse pointer, so you can move the screen, and sometimes the pointer goes of the screen and have to keep pressing the button till it comes back. The memory is not as good as they state and I soon find I’m running out of space. The remotes work ok. I have problems accessing apps like Netflix from the Home Screen but most work fine. I’m not going to buy any more and stick with what I got.

I've got one,only use it for iptv and other tv apps. Times things freeze up or buffer that I shouldn't get on iptv subscriptions, so don't know what causes it.

As being somebody that's worked in an electrical store in the past and into VFX, I wouldn't waste your money or time on ever buying a 8K TV or product that says 8K at least not for another 10+ years at least... There just isn't enough content to warrant such an upgrade, most films are shot in 4K format, whilst some films have been shot in 8K, visual effects are normally done in 2K, due to time and space, not feasible to do it in 6K-8K. 99% of TV stations won't be making the move to 8K, many haven't even moved to 4K yet and never will. Only certain sport events football matches, but the costs and bitrates of 8K would be huge and massively too expensive..

@@FreeTech Sorry for the late reply, yeah I mean it's crazy I worked in the store for a year, and the pricing just comes down quite a lot in such a short period of time. I mean you can get a 65inch 8K tv from Currys for about £2,799 but you can shed easily 2 grand off the price. Going for a 75 inch 4K TV model... Some films look great in 4K, and there is a noticeable difference in picture quality, but like yourself I can quite happily watch content in 1080p.

I had two H96 Max and both would work for a bit then do all kinds of strange things. Like Factory reset for no reason. Both are unable to work now. Got a Nivida Shield with Kodi. Worth every penny.

I bought 3 of These android boxes There just don't Get the adds I want I bought the 3 boxes in 2021 And the Google play store only gets apps from 2019 And the remote does not come with batteries Maybe that's why the remote is not Working I spent over an 150 pound on the 3 boxes and None of them gets Apps from 2022

I've been using projectivity launcher recently and it turned my shit 2gb ram projector into a reasonably usable device the stock launcher was slow it appears to be able to use on boxes to worth trying before getting a new box still getting one for me as Kodi keeps crashing on it and only supports 1080p Kodi before crash

I have the 2017 alfawise H96+, Pro,it was the rage at the time so I bought it, was fine for 2wks then it's Shitty little brain can't cope with cached data or multi tasking and would just reboot it's self, and on a bad day it would reboot,15 second's later it would flash pink then freeze,then it needs rebooting a few times,forget switching off on demand might not come back on first time,but I tried something new as I had a gut full,I went to the service menu on bootloader menu, wiped cached partition and since then worked Much better, wouldn't advise my model to anyone

I've got a h96 pro the round one and it's been bulletproof for the last couple of years .I bought the new firestick 4k max at Christmas and picture quality on the firestick was nowhere near as good or as colourful as the h96 that I'm continuing to use . Unfortunately I had an h96 Max years ago before I got the Nvidia shield. Worst piece of crap I've ever owned. I never should have even tried that thing. It overheated all the time, crashed, and eventually bricked and would not even boot. When I got one I also had a problem where the remote would not even work with the device. I had a mini keyboard remote that I used which was much better instead but it looks like nothing has changed with this really bad scam box that is garbage. Still has remote problems which at the very least the remote you received with the product needs to work. This is completely unacceptable. Wouldn't doubt if this has severe cooling problems like mine did in the past as well. That you I look so very similar to what I remember that POS looking like. This device is a complete waste of money. The reputation is horrible. Hardware sounds impressive but it's badly badly broken and dog poo from the start. Stay away, stay away, stay far far away from this waste of money. Trust me I know from past experience my old h96 Max was a complete POS and it looks like their reputation is still firmly intact as one of the worst biggest waste of money crappy Chinese boxes one can find. Pretty sure it was infected and rooted and hacked all to heck anyway. Got the Nvidia shield and never look back. Could not be happier with the shield. Honestly one of the absolute best purchases I've ever made. Solid quality product with quality support and still getting brand new updates. Yes they recently had some issues going from Android 9 to Android 11 but all of my problems with that update have been resolved now and I am singing praises on how good that device is once again. Small downside to have occasional issues with major updates once every year or two for the upside of using a top tier quality product that gets continual updates and is absolutely fantastic. Just watched a couple of 4K HDR movies on the shield today in fact. Best box I've ever owned. For those who don't have a shield, don't hesitate, get one now. You will never regret it.
