Bryan joins Haas Sheet Metal manager Joe Krivda for a tour of the facility where we do much of the sheet metal fabrication used on Haas machines.
All the parts made in this facility are shipped to the Haas factory and are installed on new machines, or are used for service parts. You'll see a ton of interesting equipment and processes that are different from what you see in our machine shop and assembly areas on Sturgis Rd.

Definitely worth watching this video. It tops off what we have already seen in previous video's. Showing the HAAS machine shop. Thanks for bringing us along and showing us around.

It's very satisfying to watch all the process and fine parts, this facility is pretty impressive. I'm working in sheet metal company as a mechanical engineer and researching sheet metal works. Thank you for this video, it opens my heart even more towards sheet metal industries.

Agreed. I was disappointed when they spent a minute or so at the machine Joe said would bend a tank in one minute, but didn't actually show that happening from start to finish. The production team seemed to forget their target audience is full of "How It's Made" type folks.

I was surprised not to hear a higher percentage mentioned also. Could be that contracts are already in place with other shops to supply what HAAS needs. Seems they already have there hands full with what they are producing at the moment.

He can learn to program those machines, or learn to fix them. Just because at one point in time it made sense for someone to do something manually doesn't make it efficient to do it that way forever. if that's how we operated a s society, this man wouldn't have that job anyways, we would be making sand castles with our hands and the mud, not machining parts.
@andrewgiles6192

Maybe he can be, but unless HR have already spoken to him about HAAS investing in a training course for him to go on, it's more likely he will get the boot and have to try and retrain whilst out of work, or, more likely take any low paying job he can, and we lose another person from manufacturing. It was still pretty dam clumsy of the pair to have that conversation where they did. Showed a lack of respect.

This facility was set up to manufacture there sheet metal exclusively , putting all there eggs in one basket cost them everything . Then get canceled as a supplier , how convenient for this machine tool manufacturer to buy a turn key business for .25 cents on the dollar You herd the man didn't know a thing about sheet metal , well the ones that jumped through all the hoops to get it set up right sure did and were Destroyed shortly after . A 10 y o Japanese machine is still far superior to what this company is offering.

Dietmar Steinhilber yeah if I remember correct this was accurate engineering before haas bought them out, they had been almost exclusively haas before as all the local sheet metal shops are in Ventura county. 7 percent is all haas pays their sheet metal manufacturers.

Not Anymore I know all about doing work for this company , In the 90s my father had a commissioned sales man that was in bed with a buyer and The work was large heavy gauge hard to handle with welded machined bars and powder coated low quantity and labor intensive . They would order sets for 5-10 machines at a time and want us to keep the finished goods in inventory . Bottom line is they would never take delivery of all that was ordered as time went by the amount of money invested was astronomical kissing A and delivering 1 kit 90 miles at a time just to say (Oh we do work for them) we canceled them as a customer. My father had a lot of eggs in many baskets and could afford to cut his losses .Evan trying to offer deep discounts to just to get them to take the product they just said no not right now or we changed the design (excuses). Other shops had the same experiences throwing tens of thousands of dollars wort of finished goods in the scrap and a lot of them aren't around any more , I would close my company before doing a single dollar worth for them , on the other hand a friend of mine makes a good livening now And has a truck driving 150 miles every day to Oxnard . Every successful business has its way especially now Corona Extra has been great for business around hear , others not so good .

Dietmar Steinhilber I hear you i started my welding career welding their panels at Computer Metal Products. I know all about the business practices you speak of. CMP always did ok with haas ( at least the owners seemed to) but they eventually got smart and diversified themselves as they were like 90% haas at one point.

manufacturing is all about efficiency. the robots can work 24/7 . you don't have to worry about caal offs . we ave 10 - 20% employees miss a day or more every week. in the meantime customers get angry they can't get their product. so humans suck especially since 2020 and covid.

@@DdgeluvinHic highspeed lasercutting with trumpf 2d laser machines is around 40 meter per minute (~1600 inches) in 1mm mild steel and aluminum. a few years ago they had a machine with linear drives on all axes that was capable to run up to 150m/min (~3800 inches). but they dont sell it anymore. there should also be a video on yt of this machine. this trumatic 6000 is with highspeed options limited to something around 20meter per minute. i operate a trumatic 7000 with 3.2kw co2 where the maximum is around 10 to 12m/min. this machine is available with 4kw co2 and with highspeed option are also around 20m/min.

@@jacksonsmith4648 8 MPH is nothing if you're driving your car, 8 MPH will shake your car to pieces in seconds if something is accelerating your car back and forth car slamming to a stop each way. But, we aren't dealing with a car, no motion controls like ballscrews could move the weight that fast no matter. Next time you're at Lowe's go for a ride in the paint shaker and tell me how slow it is.
