Oh gosh . I can’t watch all of this now .. sleep time . But it’s uncanny that this subject popped up to listen to , and I’m keen to watch the entire discussion . Because only today , whilst laying on a bench in a sauna , I was reflecting on life and when I actually was in a place which was hot like the sauna? And I recalled when I working on a fishing trawler in the gulf of Carpentaria , 40 yrs ago , with an all men crew , except myself , and just how difficult that was . I contemplated the importance & value of good communication skills , which I largely lacked at the time , and how life may have been quite different ; better , had i known how to relate to others more successfully . I then thought of my young niece and nephew , 5 & 2,yrs old , who I love dearly . I asked myself , what would be the greatest skill that I would wish for them to develop , for their own happiness in life ? And the answer was ; an ability to relate to others , to communicate well , with empathy and connection to others . To feel confident and aware in the arena of conversation . I think this is an important quality and trait to nurture for a persons well being . Thank you in advance ~ I will continue to watch this tomorrow . Good night 😴

This is especially interesting because leading authorities in different fields often do not know how to answer some of my questions, and they end up giving me irrelevant advice. This opened my eyes to the reality of baselines, and how most people or demographics have similar baselines from which they process all information, though, there are still many people who just have a different baseline for whatever reason. This is a major reason why many products have the majority of the market but not quite all of it, in any field.

I first heard the important questions to ask an audience about how much they were willing to participate,risk etc in a session more than 20 years ago at a peace and reconciliation conference in Northern Ireland facilities by a grey beard of community engagement in the States. A wonderful humble man now aged 83 who has been writing books on this subject for many years before Michel Bungay. Whilst many writers make a general acknowledgement that they stand on the shoulders of others I was extremely disappointed that the source of these very powerful questions were not sourced. If my information is inaccurate I am happy to stand corrected but they made such an impact on me I read the papers and some of Peter's books. Maybe you should invite him on the show ??

Michael Bungay Stanier: a) What is the best kind of relationship: (Tactical) 1.Safe = psychological safe 2.Vital (It needs to have life) = psychological brave 3.Repairable b) The power of reaching out = The bravery to reach out Eg. “How can we work better together for our sake, our happiness, for the success of the work we are doing?” c) Lessons: 1. Stay curious longer - to see things differently Eg. See people differently, see the world differently. 2. Working on hard things - to unlock our greatness - to crack us open so that our future us can call us forth/ our next level / our next best version 3. Be the person who reaches out because - people are lonely - people welcome somebody who reaches out and says eg., “Hey, how are you? How can I help? I’m here.” d) Definition of Greatness: “The fullest expression of the best version in the service of people that you love.”

In the perception I've embraced ... fight and flight can be thought of as 2 approaches to "fix" and freeze is the third possible response. But the 3 choices are fight, flight, and freeze. Comes from the natural, innate world.

You are indeed right in the three reactions you mentioned, but these can come in two ways: first action and then thought (animal nature), first thought and then action (human nature). In other words, animal instinct means that we always choose the action that will be easiest for us to perform and INSTANT profit in the immediate future, without fully understanding the final result of each action. In human nature, on the other hand, it means that we will always choose an action after thinking and weighing all the possibilities (visible before us) and all the results (that we know) that can happen as a result of each action for a PERMANENT profit, even if it is in the distant future. That's why we control animals but lead humans.
