I’ve been riding 20+ years and there’s almost always something to learn from your videos. If not, it’s just fun to watch you having a good time on the mountain. Your delivery is super modest. Keep it up man, you’re helping a lot of people.

One of the more basic things you can do when shredding is riding in alignment. Specifically being mindful of where your back hand/arm is. If you make an honest effort to make sure it’s always over the tail of your board you’ll see that it will help get your turns around quicker, especially on steeps.

The bit about having a logical progression thought process is gold. That has allowed me to have more confidence and fun because I can always see improvements that build on each other, rather than struggling trying to do something over and over that's beyond my ability.

I find them as great refreshers along with learning new stuff! Its amazing how much stuff you forget (even when it use to be intuitive). Thanks again. Keep it up!

Diggy dude, I'm 52. I used to do physical therapy and x-ray. Young guys who thinks someone else sucks usually scream louder than old dudes when they get hurt. If someone can ride switch easily down any terrain then they are getting good... I didn't start until I was 25. Mommy and daddy weren't paying my way so I could laugh at others and tell them they suck. Those babies cry louder than anyone else when they get really hurt. The guys that are really amazing don't knock technique and they don't laugh when someone else breaks a bone...being a technical rider will save your life. Ride on.

I just started snowboarding this last year at 30 years old. I've put in about 60 hours in this winter. I'm getting into the carving going down steeper hills but I wondered why I was slowing down too much. I ride goofy and I steer with my back leg so "skidding". I'm going to start working on that and switch. Thanks!

I will say this is some awesome content! I am a disabled snowboarder and how I was taught to get comfortable on the board was think your sitting on a chair and holding a box of oranges in front of you and pointing your hand where you want to go and then when get more comfortable you'll be able to ride more loose now my board is like it's not even connected to me because I learned my bodies way to ride and once you get past the fear of going fast snowboarding becomes SO much easier and so much more fun

@@DarkRayden666 I've never been snowboarding so it might not apply but one thing I had to do when learning to drop in on a quarter pipe is to just stamp down as hard as I could on the front of the board. What that did was prep me and force me to put most of my weight on the front of the board and slam it down onto the ramp. What I'm trying to say is maybe just try leaning to the nose really far and sliding around a bit to get you comfortable with a lean to either side of the board. I'd also recommend bending your knees a little more, it'll make you feel a bit more stable and you'll be more comfortable to move your stance around.

On your last point about keeping your board tuned, it would be rad to do a legit how to series on tuning your board: base repair, edges, waxing/scraping. Takes very minimal tools and a great skill that’s saves so much time and money. I’ve had so many friends that I taught because I was lucky enough to learn from an old timer at a ski shop how to do it. Had so many acquaintances ask how my board is super fast and I carry speed while they get stuck- “simple, tune up your board.” Not only that but it is therapeutic as heck for me the night before going out to shred to get my daughter’s, wife’s and my boards all dialed in

I was shredding down beginner slopes on my first day .. took a 20 min coffee break after 5 hrs and came back only to forget my technique for getting off the chairlift😞. Tried to scoot off with my back leg rather then letting the small hill send me and almost ripped my knee cap in half. I was stuck in the snow with a twisted leg for about 30 secs to long .. currently healing. I somehow still got my ass up and shredded down again but once I got to the bottom the shock and trauma slapped me in the face. Can’t wait to get out again next season .. best adrenaline I’ve ever experienced!

I really liked your comments about the width of your stance. I am boarder that has pretty much only been riding with skiers in trees and moguls for 17+years. The input that I have had about technique has been so limited because I'm only riding with skiers that instructional videos like these are incredibly helpful and I am looking forward to seeing your video that would go more in depth about stance and foot positioning and how that can help and hinder your riding in the terrain that you choose.

Id only add that I see many riders twist up their bodies opposite of the turn they are trying to make. Its so important to keep the Shoulders, Hips and Feet moving in the same plane so they work to get the board moving the direction they want to go. Being twisted like a pretzel makes it hard to get down the hill...

That guy can kill it on jumps, slopestyle type stuff. I'm sure he's good everywhere, but he's really good there! 🙌🔥💯 Also, I'm not just sayin' this to be oh "what a nice guy", but seriously, Jonathan's style is starting to become more fluid and kind of steeze like. From what I seen in this video when he was just riding, I can see the difference between now and what he's been like the last couple years. Not that what he's been like isn't that great, but he's actually starting to look more fluid & flowing, overall, & that's an awesome thing! 👍🙂🤙🏻 It's not just the board, he's obviously gotten used to it now and it does change how everything feels and you adapt to that, but it's more, I just want him to know there's been a noticeable difference & he's progressed with his his overall fluidity..., 👊 Keep making these great tips and instructional videos for us dude, they can definitely help! ✌...,

I fractured my vertebrate during my first year of snowboarding on an icy mogul and I had an immense amount of fear on the mountain after I recovered. I found that buying good quality protective gear helps a lot and being a bit more picky about the conditions I will ride in (e.g avoiding icy days/areas). I now wear; a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, impact shorts w/ extra tailbone protection and a back/shoulder protector. Just make sure that it all fits nicely and stays in place while you are shredding! I smashed my ass once even with all the gear because I didn't tighten the shorts properly.

@@StevieD44 yeah it a hard habit to break especially on those steep terrain because you gotta make those turns quickly or else you’ll catch to much speed

Thanks Tommie, these are some brilliant tips. Couldn’t find it in your gear list, what’s the board you’re riding there? Cheers!

My nr.1 habit that makes boarding way harder is to not wax my board enough. I always end up having to strap out on uphill cat tracks although im blasting into them like a maniac and then the people i blasted by earlier are wondering why i got stuck. Doesn't really matter how fast im going i always get stuck on this uphill catwalk in my resort. So even when you can read your terrain and straight line it way earlier than anybody else, that's not gonna help you if your board isn't waxed.

Nice video, cheers! 1 question, is your Patagonia jacket waterproof? Would be so comfortable to board in a light weight down jacket!

I had a kid turn and nose dive right in front of me and I had to jump straight over him. Super dangerous. Definitely pay attention to your surroundings and also be aware when newer riders are around you and what they might do because of their inexperience.

Great video. Question, I'm a new snowboarder, not looking to go to they Olympics or anything but want the freedom to try some small jumps and maybe tricks someday. Regarding boots and board, should they be more or less stiff? I'm looking at burton step-ons now, but not sure which boots to choose for stiffness. Thanks!
