The one-third buyout is good until 2026, so if the trade is Necas + KK for something the Habs don't mind parting with, absolutely you do it. Worst case, they'd have two seasons to test KK under MSL and see what he can bring to the team without risking a higher buyout penalty, and if it doesn't work out, you can still buy him out for the $835k cap hit over a shorter term or potentially trade him for more assets. Best case, MSL can turn KK's career around and he can become worth his cap hit and become an asset for the Habs again. Either case, you get Necas (possibly at a lower cost if KK is thrown in) which I can't imagine would ever be a bad move. Hughes does this for sure if the cost is palatable.

should KK be included in a trade for necas, then i would only offer montreals second 1st rd pick plus any small change carolina wants. we would be saving them from a headache and a problem at the same time. however i would not buy out KK right away. we should at least give him a chance and see if he could rebound from a horrible year. the only problem i see in this deal is that management may already know who they want filling that particular role so KK may have to fight to earn it.

@@mikegaudet6264 idk man honestly hear me out. I don’t see Struble necessarily part of the Habs’ future so I think he’s a good trade bait, he’s tough and young and could already be a solid NHLer. Mesar I don’t see him being very valuable unless he plays on the top 6 and I don’t see that happening, as a middle 6/bottom 6 many other habs prospects are more valuable but have lower ceilings. The first and second picks are fluff, I mean I might have exaggerated but I think it’s not that far fetched. Then of course Mailloux who we might regret but at some point in the rebuild something has to give and I think that his defensive play being less than impressive plus some of the attitude issues at the beginning of the season in Laval, being late and cocky and such may warrant trading him even given his crazy potential.
