If Primeau gets claimed, make a trade for an AHL goalie. Low cost asset management. Why give up an asset to move lower down the draft? It's time to start filling roles/addressing gaps in the lineup. Get a heavy winger who goes in corners and gets pucks.

I think we can prolly fill his spot next year. Beck/ Kapanen are probably coming up next year and we dint wanna lose evans for nothing next year + Newhook could prolly fill up as 3rd C. Hopefully dach can get better until next year at center next year or we can also try demidov 2nd center. Love Evans but losing him for nothing when we could get assets is not the best move as we're still moving foward with the rebuild

Montembeaukt not much better. These goalies were brought in several years ago to backup Carey Price and play maybe 20-25 games, not the 50-60 games Monty is being called upon. Good teams build from the goal out, and our goaltending is not good enough. Just sad to see Columbus SanJose Philly others passing us by. We should be showing more progress

Habs have Goalie & Scoring issues right now & add in the mix very young maturing players that are another year away from [SHOWING SOME POTENTIAL GROWTH] towards expectations. I soo [NO HUGE NEEDS] to try solving one issue and not solving the others so maybe we [wait] & go draft picking again. The off season can bring about patching holes or fixing them via trade or UFA'S.

The clock actually should have totally ran out for Primeau long ago...he's incapable of being a "mediocre" backup goalie. This is more evident with Monty starting a lot more games than in previous seasons (he is already over half the minutes than the previous couple seasons and its not even a third of a season yet). Primeau has not had a start where he allowed less than 3 goals this season, which is not good. Even in relief this season, Primeau's GAA is no less than 3.00 (and that's on a good day). Never know when might see another goalie on the waiver wire. Personally, "DO NOT TRADE" Jake Evans. The Habs have been constantly giving away (or letting them get away) their decent 2-way forwards for years now and it has been costing them.
@oldhab78907 күн бұрын
Primeau will not be claimed on waivers. Team supporters think their players are more valuable than other GMs. If he can't perform in Laval then cut him loose. I wouldn't bring up a Laval goaltender as it is useful to have a winning AHL team. Hughes has to be able to make a cheap signing for a backup. We are only looking for a backup. We need some veteran players, and we need to keep Evans. At this time Evans is our second best centre which is kind of sad. We have a lot of draft picks and players that we want to move so Hughes doesn't need to further weaken the centre position by trading Evans.

Habs are already too small for the playoffs, if you bring a veteran he needs to be over 6'. And we have enough unproven let's try to salvage this guy projects. They have a lot of fragile softwood with Dach, Barron, Newhook. Habs need to add big players with grit and good forcheck. And Gallagher and Anderson wont be here in a few years when Habs will be ready for the playoffs.

Well, guys, if we lose to Buffalo on Tuesday I think that's it for me. I've tried to be patient with the whole rebuild. Not gonna dump on Slaf at his age. Not gonna criticize Suzuki and Caufield...these guys are legit 1st line NHL stars. But my gaaawwwwddddd HuGo has made *so* many poor decisions, and it's starting to become glaringly obvious. The Romanov plus pick for Dach trade?? Awful. Lehkonen for Barron? Awful. Kovasevic for nothing? Just baffling. And now they're thinking about moving Evans and Armia (our best PK guys). And why?? Because they've decimated this team so badly that we're just *not* competitive this season like they expected and promised we'd be. And we can't blame injuries this year. The Sabres ending their 10 game losing streak against us, and/or trading Evans for not enough, would just be the final nail in the HuGo coffin for this 50-yr dedicated Habs fan. I want them out before they do any more damage. I've wanted them out since the Lehkonen and Romanov trades. Maybe others will finally wake up and smell the stench. 'Cause it's getting pretty foul.

I've never seen a goalie get more chances than Primeau. What are we 3 years now?- I think it pretty clear he can't perform at the NHL level. There are plenty of veteran backups that could be available and give us a chance to win when they play, but seems to make sense to give the 2 guys in Laval a shot. I'd keep Evans for now, we still need to be able to compete once in awhile. Dvorak and Armia need to go now and get some of the kids a shot. I'm also ready to move on from Dach and Newhook- it may be short term thinking but we had high hopes for both and there have been some glimpses, but they are never going to be the players we need them to be. I'm also starting to wonder if this team has a ceiling if Suzuki is the best player and captain?

Slaf is what you get when you pick a guy first overall who never scored more than 10 or 12 goals during a regular season but has a 7 game hot streak in an international hockey tournamment. I was not happy when they picked him first overall for that very reason. He's another Josh Anderson....a big guy who oozes goal scoring potential but never seems to be able to live up to it.

My thoughts on Primeau. It would be a mistake for Habs to move on from him right now. Just like Charlie Lindgren, who the Habs gave up when he was about where Primeau is on his development curve, Primeau will become a good NHL yet. Possibly even a starter. Let's be honest. Habs have not shown up at all for any of Primeau's appearances. Look at Pitt. He goes in when the team had already completely stopped playing. No wonder he looked bad. In Shinny hockey a goalie will look terrible when his team doesn't defend at all. In the NHL, you will look useless. He is in a similar position as Monty was when Habs claimed him on waivers. Remember how bad he was when he first played in Mtl? Shockingly bad!! It's a tough spot to put a goalie in when he is struggling. Monty took it like a champ. Primeau needs to play, and the team needs to show up for him, and he needs to stop caring so much about the outcome. Just get better each day. Still, the next start for a backup should go to Dobes or Hughes. Give Primeau a little mental health break.
