The way Evans is excelling in his role at this stage of his career reminds me a lot of young Tomas Plekanec, and we all know how Turtleneck came to be. Evans is the kind of player who if he accepts his role in a 3C/4C, is a piece in a winning formula. Danault could've been, and imo still is, best suited in a 3C in a winning formula, but unfortunately for the Habs couldn't accomodate his pay per role minutes and eventually lost him for nothing.

What do you mean , it wasn’t part of the plan? Gorton , Hughes and stlouis all said at the beginning of the year that they were expecting a big year from Evans For a team that’s been struggling to find centers for 30 years , how is it even a discussion about signing or not signing Jake Evans . Forget about beck and Hage , speculation of become this or that🤦♂ Evans and Armia should be extended
@iMacduffКүн бұрын
Part of it is salary cap management. If Evans wants 3.5+, do you sign him and lose depth at D or top line forward or do you trade him and use Beck / Hage / someone else at 800k and spend that 3M on a D / top line forward? Those are decisions Hugues / Gorton will need to make depending on the kids’ development and Evans contract negotiations.
@evancodd673923 сағат бұрын
@iMacduff I'm not so sure they need to worry about 3.5 considering what will be coming off in the next 3 years. Will also answer many questions about some of our prospects by then
@iMacduff22 сағат бұрын
@@evancodd6739 again.. just depends on where they want to allocate their cap. There’s also a chance they sign him to 4+ and promote him to 3rd line centre after Dvorak leaves and then have one of the prospects fill his role on the 4th line until they show they can handle a bigger role. Hard to say. Thankfully I’m not the one making decisions. I find this one to be one of the tougher ones. Love the player but unsure how much cap I want to commit to a player with his skillset. If he improved his faceoff ability, I’d probably feel differently.

CANNOT lose Jake Evans....7th round pick who worked his ass off to get here, and still works his ass off every game. A diamond for what he does....
@oldhab789018 сағат бұрын
Why is Evans not the second line centre? Dach is an anchor to the second line and needs to be replaced. Evans is showing he can score. Also not resigning him is idiotic. We have seen prospects not reaching their "potential" so until someone can outplay him he has to be part of the team. Heineman is an interesting case. I think he is benefiting from where he is playing. If he can keep his pace for the whole year, he is a likely 2nd line winger.
@markorr999Күн бұрын
For Evans, I'd go 3.5 for 6 years. That takes him to 34 and gives us a super PK killer in the years we are going to be needing one that for cup runs. Right on that list for Hutson, you can Nicholas Lidstrom one of the greatest D-men to play the game. GO HABS GO!

Yeah, if they trade Evans when he seems to be coming into his own and really starting to shine, they will rue the day they decided to. Hutson is great but he is -14, and until he is plus something, Habs defence will lose them a lot more games.
