After walking around my house aimlessly for months I drove to New Jersey from Massachusetts and adopted the third. I fell in love with this breed before I heard of Hachiko. The older version, I think, is better because the set was actually there were it took place at that time. Around Shibuya Train Station in Japan. Hachiko Monogatari. 1987 japanese movie. The scenes are much more intense which really showed in detail that Hachi cried during the funeral. After that, they drove to the cemetery and Hachi was following all the way until they reached the Shibuya Train Station and he stopped following and watched while the car drove off. A very sad scene. Believe me, you will cry.

the puppy they usrd was a Shiba Inu, not an Akita. I think they did it on purpose because a puppy Akita would be more difficult to carry around. they are heavy.

Actually he was stuffed and put in the National Museum of Science in central Tokyo. ...Pretty much sure I saw him there since there were several dogs in one corner - and although I knew the story (*everybody* knows this story in Japan), at the time I didn't know he was put on display. His statue's sill a very popular meeting place in Shinjuku though.
