Picloram (Tordon), Clopyralid (Sendero), or Triclopyr (Remedy, Reclaim, Garlon 3A - water soluble, Garlon 4A- oil soluble) are the better herbicides, compared to 2,4-D or Glyphosate on bark/cambium.

@@mariavasilopoulos8496 He's not wrong. It works, but better on smaller trees. And it's just unpredictable the larger the tree. Everyone lands on their own formula and technique. For me, bark spray, and "hack and squirt" of live trees, triclopyr 15-25% mixed with diesel fuel is 100% effective, and uses very little herbicide. It's cost effective.

Agree with gckshea… better chemicals to use in FSI/TSI than 2,4-D or glyphosate. Imazapyr and Triclopyr are 2 often-recommended chemicals for that process. The Harper cocktail is another. Much depends on the tree species you’re looking to treat. I might recommend speaking to your local forester who could provide better information.

Farm stores will often sell more concentrated 2,4-D than gardening stores. Somebody else commented that there are agents that work better than 2,4-D. Including triclopyr, which is one the two chemicals in Crossbow if your're familiar with that. Crossbow in a small quantity if you only have a few small trees to do. Buy a larger quantity of something that just contains triclopyr if you have a lot of trees to do. Mix with diesel or water about 4-to-one depending on the concentration level of the concentrate and the formulation. Esters mix with diesel, amine salts mix with water. Crossbow is an ester

I hate Arsenal herbicide... I had no idea how potent it was, I lost several WANTED tree's shrubs and plants because of this herbicide... I did the hack and squirt on several small volunteer tree's in my back yard and it killed a 40 foot birch that was 6 feet away from where I did the hack and squirt on that little unwanted tree... this stuff is ridiculously strong and kills EVERYTHING around it grass, brush, bushes, plants even tree's that are not in my yard. This should come with a warning that anything within 30 feet in diameter has the potential of being killed...

There are tons of choices. Ester formulations are generally a little "hotter" than amine salt formulations. Weedmaster contains an ester formulation. You can mix it with oil instead of water and it'll be less likely to wash off in a rain. Personally I prefer either triclopyr, picloram, or imazapyr. Any of these have to be diluted except for the tordon RTU (ready-to-use)

I agree. However, homeowners from years ago willy-nilly planted trees on properties without thinking about their size or location, planting gardens, which is my case. I have an acre property that is 100% shade. It prevents my houses from drying after a rain. I can't get a decent location for 6 hours of needed sun and the trees are too close to the houses with roots running under the houses causing erosion.

You are free to plant a forest around your home. No one will stop you. Why is that everywhere you go there is freaking grass and concrete all over and barely any trees? You should look in to who is cutting trees the most and for what ($$$$$) and government is always there to protect the profits of corporations. They only go after the little guy and blame only the little guy for causing global warming (by the way, with no real evidence what so ever). kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqm0lItmm9JomNU - Professor Ian Plimer is Australia’s best-known geologist.
