Steve Hackett, I praise God every day that I am alive to witness you, your music and your band. I feel like times like this only come every couple hundred years in music, and us fans are just so damn lucky! Thank you very much for touring, and I super excited to see you in Germany this coming September. I am taking my best friend there from the bay area California just for your show. You have made our lives so much better!

This was Genesis' finest moment. What an album, just monumental. The musicianship, the concept of the songs, and Steve and Tony's playing and composition just sublime. Sublime.

I feel very fortunate to have spent the evening with Steve and his band in early March for their incredible recreation of Selling England by the Pound on the US leg of this year’s tour. This was also one of my earliest and favorite Genesis album back in the 70’s. What a wonderful gift those of us who have been fans for this long have been given to have these musical masters as a part of our lives. Thank you Steve!

I was at two of his shows in 2019 and he's right about that version of Cinema Show. When they picked up after the quiet part it took the house down and was LOUD. Probably my favorite version I've ever heard of it.

The Seconds Out version of Cinema Show is one of my all time favorite songs and I can listen to the instrumental section over and over. It's a very powerful and emotional piece of music by itself. I've watched all the videos of the song played live and I noticed that Hackett's band plays a slowed down version of it. It's probably so difficult to play the keyboard parts that even Tony Banks would have a hard time playing it at the speed it's played on Seconds Out.
@112sje4 жыл бұрын
I love everything that Genesis have done but Seconds Out is by far my favourite album. Every song on it is an improvement on its original version (apart from the absence of the piano introduction to "Firth of Fifth"). Cinema Show is one of the best examples of this. It sounds so much better to have an ending of its own rather than fading & linking into Aisle Of Plenty.

I think Banks' keyboards is the main deal on this song (as often with Genesis) but Collins' drums are a close second! People who think Collins was just a pop singer who could play some drums need to listen to early & mid Genesis and songs like Cinema show.

Why did they have to buy the mellotron from King crimson? Were the sounds copyrighted by kc?
@scifiwriter984 жыл бұрын
No, the story goes that King Crimson were upgrading to the Mk II version of the mellotron and put their old one up for sale. Genesis were fairly poor at the time so they were happy to save some money on a used one. Also, Genesis members were big fans of the first KC album, In the Court of the Crimson King, so they were pleased to get the mellotron that was played on that album.
@HerbalistGuybrush4 жыл бұрын
@@scifiwriter98 I know that Hackett at least admits his KC influence. KC is for sure a VERY influential band. One more question: since the mellotron works in essence like a sampler, how did one put the specific sounds onto to mellotron? Like the angelic voices in Moonlit Knight or the trademark KC mellotron sounds?
@scifiwriter984 жыл бұрын
@@HerbalistGuybrush It uses pre-recorded tapes of the instruments or voices. This is an educational video of how the mellotron works. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKqnaZp-bNCMrtU
@MarceloKatayama2 жыл бұрын
@@HerbalistGuybrush The original model for the mellotron used tape loops for it's sound. So, you could change the tapes used in the mellotron to add different sounds. I also recall mellotrons having a feature to mix some of the tape signals, but I'm not too sure if it it was a feature of the original model Genesis used.
