(song; "Bad Girl" - ZZ Top) I've done about everything I can to this cymbal and now finally, it sounds good to me.

I like what you did with the cymbal. I think you have hit a home run on this one!!! The next time I am out and about, I am going to see about a metal hole saw and doing some modifying to a couple of my less desirable cymbals. Thanks for the inspiration.

Just make sure you keep it wet with cool water while drilling so you don't cause your cymbal to become brittle/less pliable from the heat caused by the drilling, they will end up cracking around the drill holes.

The Hostas has seen its season Todd and the cymbal sounds OK. Admire your tenacity to attempt things others would not do. Your lighting, sound and playing are working quite well. You are fortunate to work for a Geat employer. The company I last worked for made us reduce our PTO to less than 240 hours or 6 weeks vacation because it was costing them appearently. Do the brushes hanging by the bell retract. I would be walking by bending the bristles. I'm also looking at lessons because since the Edrum's, I am not progressing like you and I envy any Guy who tosses grenade's. I'M retired and should be swinging the sticks quite a bit more than I have been. Looking forward to your next piece. Seems like yesterday you posted the short of the snow plow in May....few weeks ago. Rock Steady!

Thanks Ed. My employer has its pluses, but in all actuality, there is a lot more minuses and I’ve never hated a place more in my life. The brushes do retract. I just leave them on the wall there like they are and they seem fine. It seems like summer is gone by fast and with the amount of acorns in my yard now it means that winter is going to be a tough one with a lot of snow, not looking forward to that at all my friend

Dude a grenade?!? BAD ASS!! Love the cymbal mod vids. This one had a pretty good result!! 👏🏼👏🏼 You ever try a moon gel (or a portion of one)?

Yeah, it even sounded a lot better once I put those extra bolts out towards the edge nice bacon sizzle. That grenade video was from 2010 I believe ended up throwing close to 20 that day.

I got a few Wuhan cymbals on my kit.. the 14" hats and a 16" crash and a 20" ride and finally a 20" china. The hats and china and ride sound great to me with a darker type tone.. the crash has a little of that gong sound.. it's not a bad sound so to speak.. but it sustains a little too long for my liking so i put a few pieces of painters tape on the bottom in a triangle pattern up close and around the bell. Now, it doesn't ring forever so i like it. Im planning on getting some of their Koi line of cymbals and trying those out as I'm impressed with these cymbals, especially when it comes to price point per performance.

I'm a fan of those linear smash cymbals but not so much the regular thin crashes. I've heard of the koi ones but never gave them a listen to.

@CheapDrumsGuy Ahh, personally I don't like the linear crash cymbals much myself, whether their made by Wuhan or other companies honestly, not my thing. But, I do agree about the regular Wuhan crash cymbals and I do like how mine ended up sounding after I put the tape on it, but I wouldn't buy another standard crash of theirs. I put the 16" on the far left so I don't hit that one much.. I use it more for a choked cymbal now, works well for that. I heard a few sound samples of the Koi line crashes though.. they sound great to my ears and they cost about the same as a mid-tier to low-tier Zildjian or Sabian roughly, so I'm dying to get the 18" crash and try it out with my own kit. New viewer too and I'm liking your videos so far as I'm a cheap skate when I can help it haha

@@Jakers80 he who saves money today looks to spend money the next day. As far as symbols go I think I am pretty well. Set up now. With two full sets. I have always wanted to get a set of meinl but they are way too expensive and that’s just the classic customs. I’ve heard the Byzance in person and I am not really impressed. I thought they sounded cheap and tinny. I think the only thing else I can add to my kit would be a small splash symbol, but other than that I am pretty well stocked up. I think I’ve burned myself out on the drums a little bit because I’ve hardly played all week, and I just don’t have much of a desire, then again, I probably overdid it a little bit for a while there. I think I’ll work on a new video tonight just to get me back into the swing of things.

@CheapDrumsGuy I've just got 1 set of cymbals I use.. but I'm kinda the opposite of you to where I just got back into playing drums again after taking a hiatus for a few years (more like 10 really..) but it is what it is. I do agree about Meinl.. I looked into those when I was thinking about starting back up playing again.. and for the money they want for them, I wasn't that impressed either, just my opinion. On the small splash thing.. I've got 1 ( a 10") but it started out as a Zildjian 18" ride that cracked on the outside.. i then turned it into a 17" crash.. and so on and so forth.. again, I'm a cheap skate and that cymbal was ridiculously expensive. I was bound and determined to get my money's worth out of it.. and I still got it to this day. Haha For what it's worth.. I'm enjoying your content so far so I'd say keep going, but I'd understand if you wanted to take a break for a little bit (I did for awhile..) no use in forcing stuff and maybe it would rejuvenate you to continue longer into the future.

@@Jakers80 one of the biggest problems I was facing was that I spend more time trying to make the damn videos then I was actually playing drums and I got to the point where the drumming stopped. I haven’t played in about a week really and I really don’t have that much of a desire right now, but I guess I just burned myself out a little bit. I’ll get back into the swing of things.

I like the nut and bolt idea. I have a Wuhan China 14 that has a bad crack, like a tear where it looks like a flap. It sounds so trashy and bad its good lol. Not a huge Wuhan fan but can't say i heard many of their "upper" lines. Curious to see how she sounds after the tension has released a little. It amazes me how much cymbals change after the break in. I order lots of my cymbals custom so they never have any "vault" time. They sound different after break in. One of my 22 rides changed dramatically. It is so much more crashable now.

I have used both rivets and the nuts and bolts on symbols and by far the stainless steel nuts and bolts sound much better than the rivets

You need a cheap eBay hole burr remover, some quick friendly advice from a fellow drummer,.. next time you drill holes in a cymbal plz use cool water whilst drilling as to not brittle up the cymbal from the heat caused by the drilling, your cymbals might end up cracking around the holes you drilled, (did I get enough drills in that sentence to drill it in your head, LOL). Anyway nice job on the video as always.

Thank you for the advice Mike! Since I don't think I will be drilling anymore cymbals I should be good. Wish I had known that before though as I have a nice little scar to show for my efforts!

You were the second person to tell me that. I’m sorry I never tried it. It’s too late now though but I do like the sound it has now.
