Thanjs fir the reply Mr. Cheap Drum Guy. In reflecting on how I want to sound, once I start playing gigs out again, I decided I going to play much less hard. I purchased a little Jazz Drum kit that are micro sized. The cymbal sounds, that I loved the most and purchased, were much larger than usual... Ex, a used Istanbul 22" Ride Cymbal, a 17" Zildjian Crash. If I'm in a small ensemble, I use smaller movements & play ar a low to moderate volume. My crash cymbals are thin & open up quickly with even a slight but accurate glancing blow. So, I think that this cymbal setup will work out great. I can create a lot of interesting color with these cymbals while keeping my volume on the soft side but steady. Thanks!

Season's greetings! What a joy to see you back in the workshop. Those rim mounts for the Tom's are nice and stout catching 4 lugs. The Paiste's are, without a doubt a fantastic cymbal. I still use 900 hats, but the rest of my cymbals are AAX's, and their must be 12 different models of Sabian AAX line. I bought a gram scale to check cymbal weights. ( amazing results when all your cymbals are purchased used) I miss your theory on adding plies on the inside of the shell. IMO I do not think it will enhance the sound of the drum...but maybe it will. Seems like more work than what your finished product will give back to you. But being the " Cheap drum guy" is like a box of chocolate's....🤷♂️ We never know what we're going to get...EH'. I look forward to your next video and do not stress out if we don't hear from you until Valentines day, we're out here. ( picked up a pearl snare stand yesterday. The Griffin snare stand did it's job) Great news concerning your drum set that lucky kid acquired. Hope Michelle is well.

@@edwardkaminsky8142 hello my friend. I don’t know what is about the Sabians. When I put them away and put the others up for a few months, I liked the sound of them, but now I’m not a fan. So I don’t know what to do about that. I have a feeling I’ll probably sell the whole pack this spring, but like I said in the video, I’m keeping the high hats. If I sell them, I have my eyes on a 19 inch Paiste crash cymbal (Big boy), And probably a 16 inch or 18 inch China. I know I have never been a fan of those kinds, but mine is a 14 inch and China’s do not sound good until they are larger. It's always a great day when I wake up to a new video from my favorite KZbinr! So yeah, 13 x 10, huh? Can't say I've ever played a snare of that size. I did have a marching snare once that may have been similar. I put a regular kit snare head on it, and it sounded quite unique. (This was in my early days; "unique" might have very well translated to "crap"). Still, I always love a good drum project. I dig your idea of adding a ply or plies to this one, but it sounds ambitious. Won't you then need to rework the bearing edges? That's one job I've never done. Of course, you're Todd the cheap drums guy (ungh!) so I bet you'll handle this with ease, skill, and grace. And you can bet that I'm here for it. Can't wait for more. Aloha! Oh, and don't let that Midwestern winter kill ya! If it makes you feel better, it has been a bit chilly here in the mornings lately. Yeah. Like low to mid 60s. It's rough, but we'll get through this. 😊

@@skfootit hey babe, it is great to hear from you again. As far as adding more layers to the inside of the snare, I would measure the distance between the bearing edges on the inside and cut the piece to fit so that would they would not even come close to touching. It definitely will need to be thickened up somehow or else it’ll just make noise and won’t sound like a snare. I’ve never done anything like this so I probably should at least try it once. Worse comes to worse I’ll be out 20 bucks. You never know, though, I could start a trend. Imagine that me doing something trendy…….. yeah right. The only reworking I will need to do other than glueing new layers in the shell would be to drill out the holes for the lugs as they’ll all be covered on the inside. It shouldn’t be too hard of a task. We’ll see, worse comes to worse I’ll just film another fuck up online.. I’m not afraid to show my mistakes. My whole life is built on them.! Hope you had a great Christmas and a better new year. God knows we could all use it.

@@gregwonhoff7161 Greg, my old buddy there you are. Well after dropping the drums off at his house the other day I found something here at the house that I left behind. It was that 13 inch Tom that I bought to go along with the pearl kit. If I took it over to him, they would have to spend more money to try to get a mount or other items to add it to the set so maybe it was better than it was here. Plus, it does not have a mounting bracket for a Tom arm anyways. What it does have sitting next to it is a spare snare throw off that I have. A pretty cheap one off an old Ludwig snare. I still have 13 inch snare batter heads from that old sound percussion lab one that got scrapped last year so if I convert this tom which I think is a 13 x 10 into a snare, it might be something pretty cool. So I think my next video will be building a simple snare out of a Tom.

Premier drums are very underrated in my opinion, I think it’s brand thing and I am guilty of this myself. I’ve never really been drawn to the name or the red P. My first kit was a blue oyster Ludwig looking kit, with the aluminium 2000 snare snare drum. A fantastic kit in hindsight I didn’t appreciate what I had. On the subject of your APK, I very clearly remember speaking with Charlie Morgan at one of his clinics and he recommended the APK kit to me. I never got one, but it stuck in my mind and your video reminded me. I now have a Premier series in red sparkle lacquer, a remarkable looking and sounding kit that was designed I believe or at least he was involved by Steve White. My favourite drummer by the way is Rat Scabies and he’s a Premier player or at least was and I was always drawn to his drum sound I

Hey I actually have another question, I was looking around the web and I stumbled in your pedals but before that I was going all in in a Tama basic model, the HP30. Same price but 1 chain and the frame look skinnier than yours. Now, should I trust the brand or try those? What's your take?
@CheapDrumsGuyАй бұрын
@ a lot of brands don’t even make their own gear these days. I could look up five different drum company’s and show you the same exact pedal. Only thing is they just change the foot plate now this has been true with Ludwig, pearl, and several others I have seen. Even the brand new premier pedals are made by whatever company that is. My double Griffin pedal looks to be made by the same people who made my D drum single pedal. It’s pretty decent quality, heavy duty and I think it would be a lot better product than the Tama pedal. Of course, you are going to pay more for the name Tama. Like with anything, you have to perform maintenance on everything. Every so often check all the screws. Check all the bolts check all the linkages. I’ve heard people complain about this pedal saying that it loosened up on them after they took it out of the box. When I took mine out of the box, I tightened everything and I have not had to re-tighten it yet. The nice thing about this double pedal. I don’t know if you remember from the video, but it gives you extra parts to convert the slave pedal into a regular pedal. That’s what I really liked about it because if my D drum pedal fails I have two Griffin pedals now to replace it with or for back ups
