Timed drying is mainly for ‘damp dry’ for certain types of delicates or shirts with vinyl decals and graphics on them, or for certain types of fabrics which will shut the machine down too soon on the auto dry cycle.

55 minutes is the longest I’ve taken to dry heavy jeans & heavy towels, even in that same set.

@@HacksbyDad thank you for the question… The reason I think that the dryer vent is clogged, ( or partially clogged ) is because I am appliance repair technician😅. (I like your video BTW. ) Based on your drying times, I think they are slightly longer than average….(I believe the last study I saw was that the average dryer takes 52 min on average to dry a normal load of laundry) also, I’ve seen many studies that show it is much more energy, efficient as well as time efficient , to use the automatic cycles with the censored dry feature. Obviously, there are a lot of variables that could affect the time it takes to dry a relatively normal load of laundry. It would depend on the contents of a particular load of laundry, as well as the RPM of the motor in a particular model dryer, as well as the dryer exhaust duct design, length, number of bends in the vent , etc., as well as the design snd style exterior dryer wall vent outlet design and efficiency, etc.( all these things I mentioned above can affect. The efficiency of a dryer ,and the drying times.). Also… The national fire protection Association as well as most manufactures they recommend that you have your dryer exhaust duct cleaned and inspected at least once annually… Typical dryer exhaust ducts get about a 20% buildup of lint each year… Left unchecked you can get a buildup of lint that is significant on the inside walls of the dryer exhaust duct, and it can create a “tunneling effect“… The dryer will still function, but it will use more electricity… And you will have longer times as a result… So I would say you should check the airflow of the exterior outlet using an anemometer…, as well as checking the airflow at the exterior outlet of the dryer so you can determine what the pressure drop is( roughly) … There are over 18,000 home fires reported each year in United States due to unmaintained dryer exhaust ducts…😅 I hope this helps PS: the golden rule is 18 to 20 mph at the exterior wall outlet… Or approximately 1500 feet per minute… If the airflow falls below 1200 ft./min. the dryer lint will start to settle in the duct… You should get about 30 to 35 mph at the exterior outlet of most dryers(in this case you have an LG I think it’s around 30 mph on that model)😅 PSS: always remember, “airflow is what dries clothes”… (Not heat)…Heat simply causes, moisture in the clothes to change state , (from a vapor to a gas )so that it can be exhausted to the outdoors. I think it would be a great case study to clean your dryer vent, (measure the airflow, before, and after cleaning so you can show the difference in airflow rates… If any) and then run a similar load of clothing that you ran in the video… And you could make another video showing if the drying time was reduced due to the increased efficiency in airflow

My vent duct is due for its annual cleaning soon and a before and after comparison might be interesting. I can borrow the anemometer from work to measure the airflow at the wall outlet as well as the dry time. 👍😎

i think it is better to check static pressure with manometer versus airflow measurement from the exhaust outlet. please check the user manual for lg dryer.

@@jungapo2 you are correct, that would be a more accurate test😅 ….we use a manometer or a magnahilic gauge in some cases to measure the back pressure in WCI (water column inches). But the average person does not have a manometer, so we came up with the air flow test using a much less expensive anemometer. Also ,….it’s not always practical to measure static pressure in the field due to the fact that dryers are often shoved into a tight closet or some other tight space😅.). Also when we do this static pressure test we install a plastic fitting into the flex duct ( with a cap ) the fitting provides a very nice port to attach the clear plastic hose. Without those special fittings it’s very difficult to get an accurate test in the field Below I have pasted the instructions from one common model LG dryer: : Effective dryer operation requires appropriate dryer airflow. The adequacy of the airflow can be measured by evaluating the static pressure. Static pressure in the exhaust duct can be measured with a manometer, placed on the exhaust duct approximately 2 ft. (60,9 cm) from the dryer. Static pressure in the exhaust duct should not exceed 0.6 inches (1.5 cm). The dryer should be checked with the dryer running with no load. PS: I just remembered something 😅 many LG dryers are actually equipped with an internal component on the control board that constantly measures the static pressure in the duct….( I think it’s actually a pressure transducer). At any rate….. it will measure the static pressure and if it gets to high , it will actually stop the dryer and flash an error code on the control panel. ( I have actually seen this in the field a few times) however,…..I think. ( if I remember correctly) it only stops the dryer when the static pressure is off the charts…..🙈 ( I think it was equivalent to a 50% blocked duct) which is good. But I was thinking it should have had a much earlier cut off point…..
