The Dark Den just wanted to say thank you so much for doing what you’re doing. I have been absolutely terrified of any kind of spider out there no matter how big or small but a while ago I started to get into learning about insects and only recently came across your videos and exotics videos. I have to say that the combination of my new interest in bugs and both of your guys’ channels (since you guys do such an amazing job showcasing these beautiful creatures) I have almost absolved entirely my fear of arachnids. @@bratkoo1370 For a lot of people, the fear of spiders comes from childhood brainwashing and misinformation and with each bit of knowledge gained, some of that fear goes away and the fascination grows; thus, videos of people interacting with spiders and remaining completely safe goes a long way in curing a fear of them.

I just loved this video, partly because when your adorable tarantulas escape, it's always so much fun to watch how you talk to them and chase them down! I also think your creativity is great. I agree each enclosure needs its own lid so they can be independent if needed, but the only way to come up with great ideas and designs is to go for it and take the chance, finding out the ways to improve on your original idea.

Definitely prefer it to not be as many, just only two enclosures stacked bit awkward with three especially when it comes to feeding / watering times etc, you have to keep taking all the stacks off individually? But it most definitely does save on space though, plus they're all very beautiful, really lovely display of all your Tarantula's, looks better because you can see T's clearly. Definitely looks way better than plastic containers. Great inspiration video especially enjo the DIY part. Beautiful. Thanks Petko. 😁😊❤️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Put a piece of glass underneath your bottom when you silicone it so that it’s slightly raised. Then glue that same piece onto your lid. This way you can still stack the enclosures while still having separate lids for each of them.

My opinion: I think it’s very practical to have enclosures of all sizes as a hotel with multiple tarantulas but maybe not large enclosures for full grown tarantulas maybe just two(for grown adults!) I was really intrigued and couldn’t look away it looks really really cool like that stacked up! I watch every one of your videos dating back sense you first started I love them!
@surtu92215 жыл бұрын
It's like a great idea that creates more problems than it solves XD If you want to be able to stack big enclosures like this, each one still needs a separate lid because the spiders can climb glass as soon as one is removed, Ideally the lid of one should fit in the bottom of the other tank to prevent slipping and sliding. What you can do is silicone some decorative molding or a strip of glass, etc around the top of each cage that creates that little 'lip' you need. Alternatively you can use pegs or circular glass insets on the top lid that match the bottom of the other enclosure. I still get the impression you'd be much better off with a hinge door on the front of the enclosure, because it's annoying having to take them apart one by one to feed them, especially past a certain size. Also I'm mildly concerned that as you scale up, the silicone on the bottom glass panel's going to give out under the weight of the substrate and the whole enclosure will plummet through the bottom XD

I would dig the whole enclosure kit thing you spoke of. Could be a way to bring a little more profit into The Dark Den and would be very beneficial to new owners who want to be more hands on with the hobby. As long as the glass would make the trip to the US, I would totally buy some.
@evanshaw61235 жыл бұрын
Here’s a tip I learned from building enclosures. Buy some 90° brackets from your local hardware store and line up all your glass and glue the brackets on to the outside of the glass for each side and once it’s all together with the brackets and hot glue, silicone the inside joints of all the glass and let cure. Then you can use hot water or a heat gun to remove the hot glue and brackets. Saves a lot of time for me.

At yesterday's repticon some of us were discussing the recent paper on Aphonopelma and how it should be split into two separate genera since there is significant differences between the Mexican Aphonopelmas and the American Aphonopelmas. That got us talking about things in wrong genera, like how Caribena Versicolor used to be Avicularia Versicolor, but stuck out like a sore thumb. So compare, if you will, the Aphonopelma Seemani with the Nhandu Chromatus.

The Idea is great! And I do not think that it is that hard to have all three together, maybe if you could create small doors on side of the enclosure for throwing in food for them it would be amazing and a lot more practical for saving space and also feeding them and watering enclosure. (I do not know if it is possible to cut glass so you can make a door but if there is a way I think it would be awesome idea). Love your channel, please continue, I really enjoy your videos! ❤🕷

I think using the bottom of one enclosure as a lid for another is a good idea in theory, but a bit impractical, at least with larger enclosures. Also, maybe you could make a jig (a device that holds a piece(s) of work and guides the tools operating on it/them) to help with making enclosures. It will help you keep everything squared up and also hold the parts in place while the silicone cues. Would save you a lot of time as well.

you can also use soapy water to spread the silicone with your finger, without the silicon sticking to the finger at all, while still cover all of the actual surface. Just put your finger into a really soapy water, you need actually a quite a high percentage(about 40%) of soap, but not much of the mix in general and you won't have any problems.

Cool DIY and I thought about it a few years ago, but I didn't because I was worried they would would fall apart from weight of being stacked. Petko, I would be concerned about that thin bead of silicone being the only thing holding together the weight of two enclosures on top of the bottom enclosure. I can see this being a nightmare collapse scenario. Yikes!!!
