I bought some custom Moser axles to fit my Explorer 8.8 but use the Beretta wheel hub and 5x100 bolt pattern. They machined them incorrectly and basically told me to piss off when I wanted them to correct the problem. The Explorer brake pilot was too small in diameter to center the rotor, and the Beretta wheel pilot was too short with a huge radius to engage the wheel. I had a feeling it would be an issue, and they vibrated starting at about 45mph.
So unless I wanted to turn these $600 axles into $10 of scrap metal, I had to come up with a fix. I decided to lathe down the axle pilots and press on an alum tube that was 3" OD and 2" ID. Then I machined the alum to the correct diameter and length to get them to work. It took some time, but my test drive went perfectly smooth. I was happy to put a GEARHEAD DEZIGN cap on the axles and skip the stupid Moser stickers they sent.

I have very little respect when a company refuses to stand behind their product. A big company (MMR) for example. Will build a bad motor and blame the customer.

So you had those clowns custom machine some axles and they were that far off? And then refused to fix their mistake? What a joke dude. Glad you were able to get them dialed in. I'd be pissed too.

I bought off the shelf Moser axles for my Camaro years ago and they were fine.. bought them for about $250 but these were $600 👎

Good fix. Machining the adapter right on the axle sets you up with great concentricity.

Once my coworker found that 4-jaw chuck I knew I was in good shape to do it all on my own and not stack tolerances

It's a little sloppy but it worked. The interrupted cut of the splines on a stock axle did not go well. Vibrated like crazy. I want to shorten them 1/2" and move the brake brackets behind the flange. That would give more room for deep dish Z26 wheels and single beadlock drag wheels.

Sucks they wouldn’t stand behind their product. I had similar experience with bowler transmissions and a bellhousing indicator plate complete piece of shit lol

The rep at Moser said they always machine the brake hub to that spec, which would be always wrong? He also said rotors locate via the studs and not the hub, which is exactly backwards from anything I've seen.

I gave motorsport-tech the exact same specs and they nailed the adapters perfectly the first time.

@@GEARHEADdezign Exactly I’m running a drum style axle with disk brakes on my 8.8 and the rotors definitely need that hubcentric fit

@LynnTwinCustoms513 yeah, I've never seen an OEM rotor that didn't. Lug holes are oversize and hub is tight
