Supergiant has a brilliant troupe of people they use for it; Logan Cunningham, Darren Korb and Ashley Barret, for instance, have all featured in every one of their games. Darren was childhood friends with one of the two guys behind Supergiant and he brought Ashley in since she was a good friend and colleague of his already, so honestly there’s this almost palpable feeling that these people know and deeply appreciate each other that comes across through pretty every aspect of the work, which really influences how natural and on-point the voice work is. They’re just a group of tight-knit friends talking to each other while playing characters.

Ares has always had a very tenuous relationship with the rest of the Olympian gods as opposed to Athena. A lot of it has to do with some real historical political drama between Athens and Sparta which, long story short, made Athena the venerated war goddess, and Ares the war god you pray to, but never venerate. Also they very quietly swept under the rug that Aphrodite was a brutal war goddess as well, but whatever.

True irl, but I wouldn't get hung up on that in this game. After all, you get murdered by one of your love interests or are murdered pretty much every time you pass them in-game for example, which 'romanticizes abuse patterns'. From the character's perspective in the game what Ares does isn't even bad, he's just representing his nature and has no influence on any of the gods directly. From their perspective, he's just doing a tasteless job in an unnecessarily enthusiastic manner while still respecting other god characters. Do you honestly have fun with any roleplaying game at all if you approach them like this? Honest question, I'd like to understand.
