Shana Brady from Punk Rope shows you to make and use a wrist trainer, an inexpensive tool, which will help you improve your turning mechanics.
A wrist trainer is half of a jump rope and is used to improve wrist dexterity and mobility, two of the keys to a better turn. With a wrist trainer you never have to worry about "missing" as the rope will be spinning to your side not under your feet. A wrist trainer is also a great tool to help balance your dominant and non-dominant wrist so that you end up with a more symmetrical turn.

Apologies for having missed your comment back in the day. We hope you’re well and still jumping. Taking breaks is fine, no matter how long. Safety and your health always come first.

I haven’t jumped rope in ages and when I did yesterday with my little daughter oh boy the pain my wrist had the was shooting down to my fingers that I got after jump roping was so strong ... I was baffled to why or should I jump rope at all!! Now seeing your video I realized maybe my wrist is soooo weak and that might caused the pain .. do you thing this exercise will help me down the road .. I really want to jump rope!! Also, what is the proper movement for the wrist while jump roping?

So sorry to hear about the pain in your wrist. Do you think it was caused entirely by jumping rope? That would be very unusual. The ideal motion of the wrist during jump rope is circumduction. It’s what you would experience using an old fashioned pencil sharpener. But shooting pain is an indication of nerve impingement and you might want to get that checked out by a medical professional. That would be awesome if you can keep jumping with your daughter. What a fantastic way to bond with your child.

@@PunkRopeNYC I believe that jump roping had made pay attention to a hidden problem I have in my wrist. I moved my wrist a lot ( not as smooth as you guys) and I think That I aggravated a nerve .. when the pain subside I’ll try again paying attention to my wrist movements.. I’ll add the exercise in the video and see . If the pain return I’ll definitely see a doctor... I wanna jump rope with my little one sooooo bad now. Thank you for taking the time replying to me.

@@cicicici42 I hope you feel better. Keep us posted on how you do. You can also try some simple wrist strengthening exercises that are called flexion and extension. They're usually done with light dumbbells but you could even try them with a water bottle for starters. Happy New Year!

Wtf.. Should we cut the rope to train.. R u serious.. There are many alternatives without destroying a costly rope.
@PunkRopeNYC

Of course there are. This is not destroying a costly rope. Our ropes are $9. This is just transforming one tool into another.

@@PunkRopeNYC can't we do without cutting it
@PunkRopeNYC
@PunkRopeNYC 4 жыл бұрын
@@coolmanu55 Definitely! Other options would be just folding the rope in half and grabbing both handles in one hand although then the grip will be a little awkward and the weight will be off. You could also use a piece of clothesline and wet the bottom portion of it. You can also improve your wrist coordination, dexterity, and mobility without using a rope. Just taking your wrist through a wide range of motion by flexing, extending, and circumducting it can help.
