The Roma is a sign that things are changing at Ferrari. For the last decade or so, Ferrari's sports cars have gotten more and more aggressive in looks - that's the opposite of the cars that Enzo Ferrari loved: comfortable, drivable GTs.
In this episode, we examine the meaning behind the Gran Turismo - and how it's an obsolete term today. But also how the Roma, more so than the Ferrari California upon which it's based, is a return to the idea of an everyday Ferrari.
It has adaptive cruise control, free scheduled maintenance, and a back seat. And while it has a rear spoiler, it has no button to make it go up and down - perhaps a way of saying, "leave those showoff antics to the Lamborghini owners."
It is a modern Ferrari, after all, so it has a twin-turbocharged flat-plane-crank V-8; light and incredibly precise electric power steering; an instant-shifting 8-speed dual-clutch automatic; and suspension tuning that makes it feel as though it weighs just 2500 lb.
And it's elegant. And beautiful. It is, alas, a real Ferrari.

I just discovered this channel and already love it! I was a teenager that had many 1:18 Ferrari models and always knew the latest gossip about future models. But over the last decade it's true that they're no longer beautiful and there are soooo many special editions. I could list off all of the Ferraris from 1980 until 2000, but I don't actually know what their current range is. It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next decade.

Montezemolo deserves all the praise he's been given, he is a genius and a madman in a good sense. He was maybe the only guy on the planet who could replace Enzo Ferrari, and look what cars he gave us in the last decades. He brought Schumacher, Todt and Brawn to the scuderia, he WAS Ferrari as much as Enzo himself. And now take a look what Ferrari has become without him, car after car that seam just like random Sportscars (SF90, F8 wtf?) this Roma is the only hope that they'll maybe not ruin the brand, but I guess with the SUV all hope is gone.

@Black Dad Clarkson and Hammond are still a bit of an ass tbh, I liked May more than those two. But Camissa here is so knowledgeable about the history, especially the buisness bits and the tiff between VW and Ferrari. Another classic example of ruining masterpieces by greedy corporates. I still don't understand why exactly ferrari had to make a cheap move like sf90? They made the ultra exclusive la ferrari as one of the greatest things on road and pumped out a 1000 hp hybrid sport in half of the price! Didn't that just ruined the purpose of existence of a car like la ferrari? This is the same thing McLaren did with 720s where they made that car so fast by putting the P1 gasoline engine in that thing and it smashed every cars in a drag race, later people found out they are cheating on HP figures. It was just a personal thought.

Absolutely adore the Roma, and Jason is always a joy to watch. But the very best part of this entire video was the photo of Enzo with Gilles Villeneuve. Brings back a lot of memories.

Seen one at the store a couple of months ago, was kinda obvious the guy wearing a red Ferrari polo and a red Ferrari baseball cap was the owner. I can't call it an attractive car to me (not that I could afford it), but I think the badge is the only thing that matters to someone wanting to buy it.

What you might have forgot in the definition of a "gran tourer", or "granturismo", is that in addition to long range realiability and enough room and comfort, the car is even capable to deliver that bit of fun, that spicyness that luxury cars don't have. Cheers and appreciations from italy

An exceptional story and review of Ferrari's finest design since early Pininfarina days! Cammisa is the very best when it comes to Italian cars. Just watch his review of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio done in 2017. Terrific video here folks!

The big thing with the Roma too is also how it slots and participates in the big change in Ferrari's lineup. For decades, you had the entry mid-engined V8 supercar, the high end Berlinetta with a front mid-engined V12, the luxury four seater with the front engined V12, and every now and then the hypercar with a mid-engined V12 (then add the little V8 front engined CC later). Now, the big V12 luxury four seater loses a big chunk of its GT credentials by becoming an SUV, the hypercar and the supercar lose cylinders but gain power with new electric assistance and become staples in the lineup. That would have left a big gap in the Ferrari lineup with a lot of space between a meek CC and the big bad SUV. Ferrari is bridging that gap by creating the Roma, which is just... leaner when compared with the Portofino, and fits better in its really hyperactive 2020s range.

Jason has an aura of multiple personalities when he speaks and doesn't need a cohost in the video to have two perspectives while reviewing. Pronunciation game too strong! Feels like he really cares about every named technology to preserve its originality.

Best American presenter. And definitely top 5 world wide. IMHO. Also, I do not consider "presenter" as a slight. He presents! tells a compelling story in an entertaining way, letting his character and knowledge show through without it being the story. It's a fantastic skill.

It is not surprising to think that many of these supercars were purchased because of how they sounded and the emotions that they invoked in their owners, but Jason makes a great point that as electric vehicles continue to become more mainstream, the idea of an electric Ferrari could be a hard sell to people. Of course, they will still make it fast and be beautifully designed, but spending six figures for an electric Ferrari that has no sound may be a hard pill to swallow, even for people that can afford it with so many absurdly fast electric cars for half the price. With that being said, it is very important that Ferrari really focus on their design because now, more than ever, car design will be paramount in a consumer's decision to purchase a car. The question that find extremely fascinating that Ferrari needs to ask themselves is "How do we give our customer's that quintessential Ferrari experience without the sound and presence of an internal combustion engine?" I know this is an obvious question here, but Ferrari needs to evaluate what their value proposition will be because what is the point in purchasing a Ferrari if a Tesla Model S will be just as fast and I find that it will be difficult for Ferrari be light and agile in comparison to the Tesla.
