Henry, I have to say you are the one of the most articulate, interesting & relatable car journalists in the business. There are multiple first drive vids in my KZbin feed today but the Catchpole Hagerty one is my first go to. As ever the videography is also superb. There is a cadre of car journalists I trust & value their opinions. You, Jethro, Harris & Metcalfe - it may be because I always loved Evo magazine- but you guys capture the essence of driving enthusiasm & automotive interest perfectly.

Brilliant review. The difference between this review and the TopGear one is mind blowing. I just watched them back to back, and the TopGear one is completely clueless and misses the whole point of pretty much everything on this car. Couldn't be more different to this. I watched that one first, and while it was obvious the reviewer had no idea what he was on about, it was only after watching this I realised how different and better this is over the 720. Keep up the good work, a good antidote to these people who I find mind blowing how they've even got these jobs in the first place...

As of this writing, the best supercar filmed by the best source of car review videos. And I'm not even a McLaren fan. Credit given where it's due, the 750s is objectively the best choice of series production supercar for enthusuasts with its superbly tailored feel through every control, no hybrid nonsense and the finally, legitimately sonorous exhaust.

I'm fine with McLaren basically keeping the same body... They're not a financial powerhouse compared to their rivals, so eliminating the development costs for a new body makes sense if the old one still looks great. I think the looks of the 720S have got better with age, to be honest.

This car makes me happy. When I first saw the 765LT, I was worried the 720 was reaching the end of the line. It's such a beautiful design, which doesn't look a day older now than when it released in 2017(!). Seeing the single flaw many reviewers pointed to be corrected with the adjustments to the steering, make me appreciate McLaren even more.

Great editing, content, and cinematography. Henry is really a great edition to the Hagerty brand and a great motoring journalist and communicator. He knows what he's talking about, educational, can actually drive, and is objective when reviewing cars . Thank God he's not obsessed with top speed or 0 to 60 times but actually his passion is more how the car drives and feels and present that in a way we can all understand. Easier said than done! Yes, McLaren have their issues but the new 750 is definitely a step in the right direction and improvment upon the previous model. Haggerty, Throttle House and Jay Leno are definitely my favorite motoring shows on KZbin. Maybe Chris Harris should go alone or be apart of something different than Top Gear. Personally, I feel it's wasted talent apart from the times he does reviews by himself. I mean, the new Autotrader is beginning to find its feet with Rory and the team. Honestly can't wait for him and Chris Harris to review the new T50!

@ksm1985 Since when has height got anything to do with being a good motoring journalist. Hammond is hardly a giant! Chris may come across as ego driven. However, TG needs all the help it can get, and whatever you think of him personally, he knows cars, how to drive and express that to his audience. I think sometimes people can mistake ego for raw passion. Him and Henry are very different but good in their own right!

What an awesome video review...thanks so much! As you were going through the various changes in the beginning of the review I was thinking to myself that it sounds more like a 765LT for the masses than an upgrade of a 720S and it was nice to hear your summary conclude nearly the same. For those of us who have driven the 720S, it's hard to even imagine a solid upgrade for that experience...but now we know it's here. @adrn0104 Жыл бұрын
All the examples you’ve used aren’t cars that are introduced as “new cars”, but rather new versions of the same car. The main reason people look down on the 750 is because it’s effectively just a facelift of the 720 but was introduced as a “new model”.

@@adrn0104 Yeah but the fact was the 720S was so much faster than what Ferrari has produced like the 488 and F8. It meant that McLaren didn't really need to do much to the 720S as the recipe was already very good as is...
@adrn0104
@adrn0104 Жыл бұрын
@@teabagtowers3823 your point still doesn't change the fact that they branded a facelift of the 720 as an all new car under the 750 name. And the 720 has extremely similar speed and power figures compared to the f8 and the gap between them is much smaller than you've suggested. The 720 and 750 are both amazing cars I am just pointing out the fact that many are disappointed with the 750 as it is advertised as a "new car" but is effectively a 720s face lift.

it was their best most sorted model. Not too much needed to be done. Why spoil something so good? They took the best from 675LT and senna (steering, brakes, optional seats etc) and used it to improve the 720. Those weight savings are not to be laughed at either. In an already light super car they improve the handling, braking, accel noticeably. And such weight savings are hyper expensive options on other super cars, but built in with this. It's a car that does GT and track very well. To improve from the 720 was great.

I'm definitely in the camp of refinement compared to chasing the latest technology. I'd much rather manufactures of sports cars stick to an ethos of feel and emotion rather than pure specs or the latest tech just for the sake of having it. If the tech supports the feel and emotion of the vehicle then I'm all for it. However, I'm not a braggadocios person by nature. I like what I like and that's what I want, regardless of what my neighbor has. For those that "want to be seen" or want to compare "sizes" I guess they want what others don't have and therefore must have the latest. I applaud McLaren for keeping the weight down. I wish our regulators would understand that by constantly adding requirements to cars they are increasing the weight which increases the consumables and increases energy consumption which is also worse for the environment.

I was always a Ferrari fan, but if I had to choose (not that I will ever be wealthy enough to have that problem xD) between a new mid-engined Ferrari or a new mid-engined McLaren, I would take the McLaren

Ferrari are good for emotion with nice sounding V12 engines and good looks. And the badge. But yeah this car handles, steers, brakes, rides, communicates so well. And quietly they have been making it more reliable. Glad it's not really a new model, that might be trouble. Even the bits they added have been tried and tested on the 675LT and senna.

720s was a wonderful car from performance standpoint , they didnt have to improve much . But they had to improve reliability and that whole catching on fire thing. We will see how that went

The biggest difference between the 720s from 2016 and the 750s in 2023, is the price. The 720s was already an insanely good supercar that "overstepped" its boundaries, even outperforming the P1 at certain tracks. It was an absolute game changer. However, I do think they've dropped the ball a bit on the 750s, where the 720s was a too big of a jump, the 750s is too small of one. For all these years since the 12c, Mclaren have been a step ahead of Ferrari in terms of sheer power as well as being lighter, thanks to the carbon tub and turbos. Even the 570s was faster in a straight line than the 660hp 488 GTB. In the span of 7 years, Mclaren went up 30hp, while Ferrari in the 296gtb have gone up some 170hp. And it has been shown that even the 765lt can't match the 296gtb for sheer acceleration (yeah, shocking). They said the 750s has a shorter final drive, so it should help, but the 296gtb will still have the legs over this. I hope the Mclaren claws back points in the corners, but it'll be hard because the lap times the 296gtb has been pumping out has been nothing short of jaw dropping. It seems that Mclaren went from being the leader of pushing supercar boundaries, to the follower/chaser.

Plus, McLaren has a higher rate of depreciation. The only thing Mclaren has going for it is you can actually go into a dealership and order one.

Oh relax, this is Mclarens first real stop gap car, Ferrari did it with the F8 (and people applauded them) and they have done it in the part. Mclaren Automotive is a 13 year old company competing with 85 year old Ferrari and 92 year old Porsche, and this is the first time in those 13 years that their mid range offering "seems" to be slower than rivals.....ON PAPER. Mclaren will be fine.

@@CITRUS-- when the 720s came out, it wiped the floor with the 675lt. However, this 750s was obviously made to not disappoint 765lt owners, has been held back which I think is a mistake. If Ferrari are already faster than the 765lt, what does that mean for the 750s for the upcoming future? They could have easily made it a 800s, meanwhile it being less track focused, but would be faster in a straight line, then you'd have a differentiation, and wouldn't disappoint the 765lt owners.

I like it, I'm ok with minimal styling changes...but nobody is making those seats any lighter and it's still over 50kg heavier than my massage-seat equipped C-segment hatchback. Not that the weight of this is an issue, I'm just thinking I'd probably rather be 20kg comfier. Edit: No I can't afford this, but neither can you 😄 I'd love a McLaren, if they released a problem-free 570S replacement that'll be a dream car. Until then, nah.

Were the reliability and quality issues fixed? The tranny stuck in reverse, the cracking windshield, the common misfire leading to checkengine, the interior faling apart, the squeaking door handles and panels... (and the list goes on). So where are the more important updates compre to the 720 ?

Almost all of what you've said are common problems amongst plenty of supercars. My chief cardiologists 488 isn't even that old and his seat stitching came undone and has a huge gaping hole by the bolstering. His dash creeks, leather is faded and had electrical issues which would cause a CEL then suddenly resolve itself. Not that I could afford one, but McLaren shares its problems just like any other manufacturer in its category.

Exactly! A few KZbinrs have targeted McLaren. It was all about clicks at first and it spiralled! A few modded their McLaren’s and then blame McLaren…Sure they have small annnoying issues which mostly stemmed from them sitting for too long in forecourts. In the UK Porsche had the most warranty claims per vehicle out of every manufacturer this last year! And people are led to believe they’re perfectly engineered… we live in a backwards world lol. If you want reliable buy a Chevy, Ford, Kia! Definitely not a supercar which is not mass produced

Awesome review - is that a new car? No - but if it sells like McLaren expected they did the right thing, it's not even a life-cycle refresh, same car. Is that bad? I never saw one in person, only through reviews - so it must be a great car.

This is McLaren's F8 Tributo. It'll be here for a few years to help them get in a position for a true next gen platform. But there are far worse looking and performing stop gaps, I wouldn't be mad about this one.
