As someone lucky enough to work on the T50 project, i think the greatest worry was not really being able to deliver a modern interpretation of the F1, as the march of technology gives us enourmous capabilites today that simply didn't exist in the early 1990's, but a worry on how to find a good "balance" between building an amzing drivers car, and strangely, one that could actually be driven! Take the rev capability of the engine for example, it can't run at too low an rpm or the crank snaps in two (which is why the start sequence is so "Long" btw ie the 3 sec mentioned in the film) and the engines ultra-low rotational inertia that enables the use of relatively small gearbox syncro components and hence rapid manual shifts that stay within managable physical limits and enable a high shift quality means a very very careful calibration for the torque control system (throttle and ignition etc) to allow the car to be driveable at all. The fact the car is as driveable as it is, with its "small", compared to F1, capacity engine is testament to an enormous amount of effort and v. long days at GMA & Cosworth ;-)

Only a select few auto journalists could showcase and handle this situation properly, and Catchpole is absolutely one of them. This really is the definition of, “exclusive”, like you don’t just get to highlight and drive a McLaren F1 for 30 minutes on the regular, and then compare it side by side with its direct successor (Speedtail be damned). This is a video that will most certainly be a piece of automotive history in years time, and I’m not being hyperbolic about that. Also, it is crazy how the F1’s reign of fastest N/A road car has not been beaten. It is still very much the indisputable king.

The cover of what were 2 of my favourite cars of all time in the backdrop of southern France is something that's burned in my head and the article itself was something of poetic beauty. Catchpole truly was a journalistic genius (video guise as well) 9 years on, seeing what is basically the sequel to that, and that too on video? truly proves the man has still got it and none of that charm and elegance is gone. i love it!

Would have been no later than ‘92; Sis driving Mum and me, navigating a busy Harlesden junction (by Jubilee Clock) in her Citroen Visa, when an F1 converges alongside. I jumped up and down with excitement, and was told to stop acting silly over a car. To which I then pointed out that, that car was over £1/2Mil….. they quickly got it, with Mum cautioning Sis ‘mind the man’s car’ 😁

I have watched this a few times today, and I am even more confident this is the film of the decade!! What a masterpiece by Henry Catchpole - he is firmly at the top of his game. Just brilliant!

Thank you H and to everyone involved in this production. The views and comments are testament to the fact that their remains vast appetite for vehicles like these, and fantastic story telling to shape them for those not able to sit behind the wheel themselves. Also enjoyed the Clio 182 reference - another example of analogue driving fun, but at a more agreeable price for the majority!

One of the best car review videos I have seen on KZbin for a long time, two iconic cars, stunning back drops, and brilliantly reviewed by Henry 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 well done Hagerty!!!

This is huge. Congrats on the opportunity as a journalist. Been watching you for a while and this one… wow. This is a review and video that will be watched over and over again.

This video should have at least 10 million views since it came out. The fact that it hasn't even reached half a million speaks poorly of today's sports car enthusiasts.

This is quite literally the best automotive film/edit I have ever seen!! What a masterpiece

Finally. I am not fortunate in this life to own a T50 or even drive one in my life but I will live vocariously through Gordons Design philosophy and your inspiring words. A big thank you for sharing your joy.

Simplicity and soul. There are so many super/hyper cars these days with insane numbers and incredible technology, but they are largely complicated and soulless. Murray is proving that, above all else, the joy of driving is still and will always be the most important thing. It’s almost unbelievable that 30 years later, he has stuck wholeheartedly to his ethos, even doubling down, and the result is once again heralded as maybe the greatest drivers car of all time. Just think, he has developed 3 road cars in his career, and 2 are widely regarded some of the greatest ever. That’s something very few people have ever achieved in their chosen field of work.

I missed that sensational roar of the sports exhaust on F1 Joy since the F1 vs P1 video. And ever since then when the T50 came out I waited and waited for the day Henry would compare F1 vs T50. And here we are!

Henry showing us once again that he has the very best job in the world. Every days a bucket list.

Sublime. I actually think the low-end to mid-range engine notes of the F1 are better, but then the high-revving wail of the T-50 is insane. I was lucky enough to see PP1 & 4 running and testing at UTAC Millbrook last month and the two standout impressions were how beautifully compact they looked and also, of course that noise. Great video Henry. Eloquently described as ever. Zero waffle, maximum information and emotion.

It's a combo of a much larger engine, intake and firing order. The firing order is responsible for that unique sound.

Henry and the F1 was always an instant click. Henry and the F1 AND the T.50? Can I go back in time to see the video the instant it released? *edit* Genuine goosebumps from that engine the entire video. Hats off to Murray and the GMA team in general.

OMG OMG OMG😱 What a dream drive! Congrats Henry on being the lucky one. And what a video. Thank you Hagerty and the production team for putting together such an epic video

I went into this with high expectations. I adore the F1, the T.50 is perhaps the last truly analog supercar that will ever be, Gordon is a visionary and Henry is immensely enjoyable, so I felt my high expectations were justified. This 31 minutes was some of the best automotive content I have ever seen. Well done, all.

Henry has to be one of the greatest. This film would not have been what it is without him, despite the outrageous cars.

This video is a work of art. A true tribute to the man who created these epic cars. The presenter is top notch and his face while behind the steering wheel is a perfect subtext to the script and the visuals. You say you wanted to put us behind the wheel, but you did! And the ending 😭😭😭. Wonderful 🙌

I watched this a month ago. I’ve watched it again. In my very humble opinion, this is the best car video ever produced. As an avid reader of your work since forever, this video, somehow, raises the bar yet again. Thank you, for so many years of making us feel like we were there. The next best thing to actually driving the cars!
