Like literally all the main character on the show can really do at this point in the story that is good enough to even warrant having him in the game is a freak quick that he can only do with one specific setter around. Meanwhile there's Oikawa... a master class setter who can also spike and dump, who is great at strategically analysing his opponents, can pull out 100% out of every player on his team, knows how to psychologically pressure his opponents and play little mind games with them, knows to do the same in a positive way with his own team, knows how to block, will at times run to dig a ball from an impossible position etcetc... but hey he's making a lot of points through service aces "His one trick!" Even when even in these service aces, I think so far he's done new strategies for just about every time it was his turn AND kept some strategies for some of his teammates to use. (like when...who was it? matsukawa served to asahi with Kageyama crossing).... one trick lol

Marketa chill, there’s something called service ace in volleyball. The point of a serve is to not get the ball across but to score directly without having to go for a play. That’s why it’s called a “service ace” when they score with a serve. If they are not able to score a point with a serve, that is, if the opponent receives it, it goes to a continued play. If you’re gonna insult Oikawa for his one trick, then you might as well get mad at Hinata for his “freak quick”.

9:37 it’s not pre-serve tricks, it’s a routine to keep doing the same serve and stay focused. When I do a jump serve I hit the ball to the ground three times, but when it’s a floater I hit it four times and when it’s a high underhand serve I spin it. It’s different for everyone

It's kinda... Odd that you guys seem to be very decided on disliking the opposite team, Oikawa in particular, but I'd say one of the best things about haikyuu is how interesting and compelling all the characters are. Don't be tricked into thinking that the only team worth rooting for is Karasuno!!! One of the reasons there are characters like Oikawa is to mirror and depict everything Kageyama lacks right now, notice that the way Kageyama treats Hinata is similar to how Oikawa treats Iwaizumi (if anything, Oik and Iwa have actually been friends for years and it's all in a joking manner). I'd advise you allow yourselves to enjoy each character for what they bring to the story; after all, they're just high school kids who love to play vball, they're aren't any villains or heroes. Karasuno just happened to be the team Furudate decided to focus on, but all characters are an opportunity to learn a lesson :)

I think they are thinking in terms of real life ppl and players. Like I would rather have Daichi as a captain in my team than Oikawa. I think people are conflating being a good player or interesting character with being a good person. Do I understand his motives and think he's an interesting character and a good player? Yes. But I also think Iwa would make a better captain than him, as Iwa is the emotional support of the team. Also I don't think he's a good person. He's often very petty and has extremely toxic views towards kags. After rewatchign the flashback a lot, I just feel bad for kageyama during that exchange.

I love Tsukki but, good lord, he tells his best friend to shut up all the time; not to mention how he treats Hinata and Kageyama. I have a hard time when people judge a character based on one action/feeling/thought while they are at a low point in their life. Because as much as Oikawa may trash talk to Kageyama or tease him, he STILL, as someone who has grown past that low point, helps him every time Kageyama asks. The scene showing Oikawa not willing to teach Kageyama his jump serve is juxtaposed by him helping figure out his problem with Hinata later on. The characters on Karasuno are not the only one’s who are allowed to grow or develop. And we can tell by his interactions with Kageyama and his team that they do not take seriously his “jabs”.

9:38 It's not about showing off or doing a cool trick, when you are serving it can get pretty terrifying, just think it's game point for them, your team finally got a point back, it's you who has to serve and if you miss they win everyone is looking at you focused on you, your team, their team, the audience it gets pretty terrifying. So almost all players like Oikawa have a routine they do before serving it's to calm yourself. Many players start doing this routine as a newbie and even when they get good or become pro player they don't stop doing the routine it kind of becomes a calming + lucky ritual that you do before every serve. Sometimes when you are in the zone and very much invested in the game, you do it without even realising.

Everyone has their strengths; Hinata has his insane speed and hops, Tsuki has his ability to read opponents, Asahi spikes the shit out of a ball, Nishinoya's whole identity is in being the guardian libero. It can be argued they are all one-dimensional players as well. For Oikawa to get as good as he has with his serves means hours, days, months, and even years of bloody hard work. I personally would like to see more respect put on Sugawara (esp. from Patrick). He was Karasuno's official setter so he does his job and does it WELL. He isn't now only because Hinata & Kageyama pair well together as far as their abilities/talent rn so they are starters. I forgot who on the couch said it but just because one setter is good doesn't mean others are bad. Plus setters like Sugawara, Kenma, Kageyama and Oikawa literally have diff strengths in the show and are all great players. Oikawa is the whole caption & Suga co-captain, like......

I love the Oikawa trash when it's about his personality but when you guys trash on him about his skills and leadership then that's wrong. He's a very skillful player and he's worked very hard to get where he his. I get that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but for god's sakes don't let the hate consume you. @@dani_simone Yeah, but still I'd give a pass on the personality almost all KZbinrs who have reacted to Haikyuu hated Oikawa's personality maybe because Kageyama is upfront he says what he says and doesn't give a fuck especially to hinata, same for Oikawa he says what he say but a bit douchey sometimes. Coach donny and Victoria garrick both of these guys have spoiled me 😭 there Haikyuu reactions are top notch. They also don't like Oikawa(Kpop guy according to Coach donny) but they don't trash him much and respect his plays, skills and hardwork.

@@addollz6192 I mean things like when his coach said that he his whole team trusts him completely, and at the end of the episode she just started saying how he was obviously a bad teammate. Or how we're shown that he's super talented- his serves, his sets, he's won awards in the past, and she said this episode 'that's your only trick' when he hit the ball between Tanaka and Nishinoya. It's not that we have a lot of DEPTH for his character yet, but we have plenty of basic information that she somehow doesn't pick up.

@@gemelwalters2942 *spoilers* this may be a debatable statement, but when Ushijima tells his team he doesn’t like confidence with no basis (referring to Hinata and how he really doesn’t have anything to be confident about skillwise) he’s kinda right. Hinata at the time literally sucked at the basics and was only on the court because he could spike Kageyama’s quick sets (which has been blocked several times by teams “weaker” than Shiratorizowa). So Hinata just coming up to the number 1 ace in the prefecture that’s known for his skills and being a powerhouse and tells him that he’s gonna beat him…I wouldn’t really take him seriously either tbh.

Haikyuu is one of my favorite shows and Oikawa is my favorite character, so it's really hard to watch this when Marketa shits all over a great written characters, and when Pat just says something dumb in the sake of saying something dumb. I will continue to defend this man, he is not afraid of saying Kageyama is better naturally, Oikawa has worked his ass off to get to where he is, that’s the reason he hates prodigies because that’s what Tobio is, but he will also not necessarily hesitate to give compliments to another team or player. He targets people of other teams to break them down and ultimately they get stronger as a result, because if he’s gonna kick your ass in volleyball he wants you at your best. I've finished up everything but I don't think "kind" is the word to describe him. He's funny, skilled, cool, a hard worker and a team player BUT he is petty, jealous and mean. I understand the comments saying that the normies are not acknowledging his skills because he is just insanely good and he deserves credit for that but I also understand why the normies don't like him. I dislike him during s1 but came to understand his character a little bit better during s2 flashback but still dislike him because of the Kageyama asking senpai for help incident.
