honestly as skilled as Hinata is at spiking and jumping and blocking at times, he needs to develop his basic skills like receiving well and using his head to think more while in the game. this is only the start of his growth

"He aint no prodigy" hahahaha the whole growth of hinta this season is how talented he is but lacking experiences. its his first year playing competitive volleyball and he's standing out on a national level. This arc you see as his basic foundations and experience catch up to his top tier athletism and work ethic.

The art style is what really changed. It’s completely different in the sense that they look more like athletes. They look a little older. It’s just like the manga which also changed art styles for the characters at this point. The animation changes are there but you don’t REALLY see them until the second half of the series

shiratorizawa is still in Nationals. They won the fall regional tournament which makes them eligible for nationals. They didn't have to play in the spring tournament if they didn't want to.

I always felt strongly against coach Washijo because I felt he was just wanted Hinata to suffer, but now I'm up to date with the manga (to this arc) and I see him differently. Since Shiratorizawa lost to Karasuno I believe he is one of the ones who wants to see him improve to the best of his capacity. In a really harsh way? probably but still wants to see him keep flying.

He literally allowed him to stay even though he wasn’t supposed to be there. And everything he said was correct. Hinata at the time wasn’t a skilled player without Kageyama, Hinata himself is painfully aware of this. The only thing negative I can say about Washijo is that he was initially petty and sort of jealous of Hinata. But as you said in the final arc he was his biggest fan pretty much. “No one has higher expectations of Shoyo Hinata than I do.”

I believe the animation team is smaller and different for this season in comparison with the previous seasons. They waited a LONG time for manga to accrue chapters. S3 came out in 2016 and S4 came out in 2020. The studio has other projects that take time during this period and things just usually happen constantly with animation studios. They still show out for the big moments this season but they do cut a few more corners than they would have previously due to the greater limitations with this animation team. They also had to shut down for a bit due to covid, and outsource an episode (you’ll know it when you see it) bc of the shutdown. They did redo the character designs, not so much but I believe they did it to be more accurate to the manga design. Overall I don't hate this season any less. It’s still great.

You can tell how little competitive nature is in you guys, Pat may be an exception but he was quiet in regards to this. Hinata's frustration at not being invited to either camp is what being competitive at its HIGHEST LEVEL looks like, those types of people are built different. You aren't wrong in the things you're saying, but to someone who is competitive to that degree they are just excuses for why they aren't where they want to be and competitive people don't accept or believe in excuses.

To be honest why didn’t the coach invite Hinata in the first place? Apparently, I read somewhere that Hinata was recommended to be part of their training but the coach overruled it. He saw a lot of potential with him but never wanted to aknowledge it and he’s been downplaying his skills ever since his team played against Karasuno simply because of his height. Hinata had enough potential to be a part of the training camp but he was never given that opportunity. I’m glad he showed up though. It was embarrassing but his heart was in the right place 😂 I haven’t cried watching Haikyuu since they lost to Aoba Johsai but this season made me cry

That coach who wanted to recommend Hinata is still green behind the ears. Because he sees Hinata as this high flying acrobat, he's fooled into believing that Hinata is a good *volleyball player* and not just a good athlete. That's why coach said he sees no value in Hinata without Kageyama because he's basically a liability without him. The only reason Hinata is even a starter is because of their quick attack, which only works with Kageyama.

Also I think that coach wanted to teach Hinata that it's not enough to just *want* it. Short players have nothing given to them. You have to find other ways to become competitive and to fight. He couldn't hack it as a player, so he turned to coaching. Hinata will have to find his own way as well.

And its not just because he can hit the quicks, its because of him being the decoy. He isnt a great defender, cant recieve well, cannot serve at all, and really only has basics in spiking.
