I think u guys got the years mixed up. Oikawa is a 3rd year. This is his last Interhigh tournament along with our 3rd years; Asahi, Daichi & Suga. Also Aoba johsai is the school name and Seijou is their nickname because when u take the first 2 letters of their real name and read differently to spell out Seijou

6:50 To clarify, yes Aoba Johsai is Seijoh. It's not that they're switching the names around, it's just that "Seijoh" is the nickname of the school, and so the characters would sometimes just simply call them that.

6:43 Found this on Quora. Hope this helps in explaining why Aoba Johsai is called Seijoh/Seijou. “This is because Aobajohsai is spelled 青(ao)葉(ba)城(joh)西(sai) or 青葉城西 in Japanese. Seijou is a shortened version of this name. If you take the first kanji (青) and the third kanji (城) and put them together it would be Seijou (青城). Japanese people like shortening titles, especially long ones, but since there are no acronyms in Japan they’re usually shortened like this. It’s going to get complicated, but it’s read Seijou not Aojou because Japanese kanji usually have onyomi (音読み), which is the Chinese reading of kanji, and kunyomi (訓読み), the Japanese reading of kanji. Onyomi of 青 in this case would be せい (sei) and the kunyomi would be あお (ao). Depending on the kanji that comes after or before the reading of the kanji can change.”

The scenes where they show Oikawa says something to each of the players after they hit, Oikawa playing around with Iwa, I always thought of it like Oikawa loosening up a tense Iwa, his words may come off as a jerk but maybe that is him calming down Iwa's nerves before a match since he knows him so well.

Oikawa is one of the best players in Haikyuu and of course a very well written character. He has a bit jerky side too but he is cool. It is soon that you all will start to like Oikawa.

You may hate Oikawa now but his character development and as you learn more about him, many will come to like/love him. He is definitely in my Top 5 favorite Haikyuu characters.

Yeah, I am pretty sure no one at Seijoh (Aoba Johsai) thinks that Oikawa is cool. At least the main roster doesn't care at all about him trying to act cool, they simply respect the work he is put in and are playing as a team. I think the reason for that is mostly because he is kind of a jerk not going to lie, but he speaks a lot more through his action than his words. What I mean by that is not that he doesn't talk (is quite the opposite), but that the team has build a lot of trust with him as the core and it comes from all the practice they went together all this years.

*Manga spoilers* . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . While the person to have the most potential to be the captain the next year is shown in season 2, then what about the year after that? It's implied in the manga that Yamaguchi is likely to be the captain in his third year (his shirt has the number #1, which is the number Karasuno captains wear as a tradition). While he is the only member being benched in this year's roster and seems timid, he's one of the few who can calm Hinata down, not bickering with Kageyama and keep Tsukki under control. Plus it's hard to imagine how his serves will be polished and evolves in two years time, he'll be deadly.

Oikawa is my favourite character but yall let people discover things on their own, as long as they're open minded i'm cool if they don't care that much for him. My only concern is seeing how conditioned some people are to leave an antagonistic character as just that, no matter how the storytelling progresses and layers are peeled back. I'm not on patreon but hopefully this is not the case for this channel since they've been pretty attentive so far.

I think watching this show with the mindset of trying to predict who's going to win for the plot's sake is going to hurt your viewing experience. It would be much better to watch it as it is just like a sports fan rooting for their favorite team. Just my two cents

Seijo is a shortened name for Aoba Josai. The Ao kanji is more commonly pronounced Sei (following the Chinese pronunciation for the character) And then the first kanji Jo from Josai. AOba JOsai. Seijo.

I personally don't llike oikawa. I think he's an interesting character that's well developed and somewhat relatable. But I also think he's a petty asshole. It's always bothered me how some fans can't differentiate between good person and interesting character
