I am rebuilding my own 560 sf same hull as 565 and ive done a 445 in the past just never experimented or attempted to paint it gelcoat, its still in good condition on my 560 but your videos are so informative!

Love this project and awesome presentation. the black powder coat came out amazing. Just a question ? do the guys ever install stainless steel keel strips , it helps when you beaching the boat and little stones in the sand crack and chip all youre hard work .

Hey mate, thanks for checking the vids out. I’ve got a bit of stuff from everywhere mate. My last lot of gear was from Allnex in Cairns. They seemed to be pretty reasonably priced and quick delivery. I’ve got some qcell and carbosil from Fibrefinish in Townsville. My thermolite came from Fibrefinish as well. I’ve also got some stuff from Brooke at Murray Craft if I was ever running short. Pretty well priced for a quick purchase when you need it. Super helpful with any questions I had as well 🍻

Been enjoying the videos for a while now, nice work on the build. Any tips for a couple of brand newbys wanted to head out shore diving this coming weekend? We've got all the gear and no idea 🫣

Thanks for checking the vids out! Any of the head lands should be worth a look this coming weekend. Your pretty safe on the head lands for current etc. But it's worth having a plan incase you do end up being moved in the current and away from where you jumped in. Have a back up exit point! Be seen, have a float with a flag preferably, if you see or hear a boat coming near make sure they see you, stick your gun up in the air etc. Apart from that don't push your limits and have fun, have a good look around and enjoy the water!

All good man, questions is what I want haha. A few reasons, I didn’t have the motor until the back end of the build. I had the dimensions etc but I really didn’t want to risk building something that the motor hit when turned or trimmed etc. Time was another thing, while the alloy ones were getting made, I was redoing the windscreens and windows etc. I did consider doing a pod/hull extension. I know most people have good success with modifying the original hull. I didn’t want to be one of the few who didn’t haha. Also a good mate of mine said. If you need more room on this boat, buy a bigger boat haha.

Yeah mate I'm with ya there, I bought a 21footer cus I wanted a 21footer haha not a 24. Also Haines designed the hull like that who am I to try change it. I'm gunna cut part of the transom up(not the motor mount bit) and push it forward 400mm to create a "reverse pod" if that makes sense? Then I'll add another 400mm or so with duck boards for a good platform to suit up

Thanks very much mate. Yeah it was just flow coat mate. I thinned it a little when I remembered to haha. I few batches I forgot to thin, still came out well though.

@@j2607wr Yeah mate, just one thick coat on everything. I just used a 100mm roller, it went on very easy and spread out well without the brush marks you tend to see when a paintbrush is used. No videos of flowcoating unfortunately. I wanted to get it down and get the spots on while it was all still a bit tacky so I just hooked in and focused on that without the distraction of filming haha.

Hey mate, second time around we did 5 coats on the bottom and 4 on the side. I wasn’t sure how that non slip would wear in high traffic areas so I went with the more proven stuff.

Puck yeah that's good to know I was thinking a good thick gelcoat would be peace of mind! I can vouch for the talc-ed roller non skid flooring it works awesome and lasts. You can vary the finish with talc mix ratio, nap of your roller and how long u leave it before you do that final pass which sticks it up (15-20 minutes after the original application works well) Loving the haines videos mate, good amount of detail! How much was the overall rebuild cost mate complete body work ?

Sorry mate I missed this one. I Just had a look at some of my logs. It was roughly $8.2k for materials to do the 'rebuild component'. The gelcoat and flowcoat, wax in styrene, styrene, mek, pigments etc. Total was around $1200. There was a couple hundred worth of sandpaper etcas well. Something else to factor in is all the little consumable stuff, new spray gun/s, new sander, grinder - I had a fair amount of tooling already but I would have bought another $1-2k worth I recon. I'm glad you didn't ask about the fit out, because I really don't want to add it up haha.

Hey mate I've got heaps of questions but I'll just ask this one what thickness was your stringers and how many thermolite board did you use for stringers I'm in the process now of stripping my stringers completely rotted plus the deck aswell

@@therukugorillazaotearoa_ hey mate, the stringers were 19mm thermolite. I can’t remember how much I used just for the stringers, but what I did was got some maximum length and height measurements of everything that was going to be done out of thermolite. I drew them but down scaled on bit of a4. Cut them out and then cut out a downscaled 3300x1330 thermo sheet and laid everything out on that and moved them around to make sure I had minimal waste. Probably some sort of program that does that but I did it really basic and it worked out pretty well. At the end I was scratching for bits and pieces.
