I missed the live but I’m adding my $.02 now - I think the shag is just so much better than any other cut! It looks like she is SUPPOSED to look. I see her personality! I think that most women go crazy over having to have long straight hair even when it is unflattering and aging. It takes a lot of individuality and chutzpah to do something different! Hi Justin…I think we are on the same page. I think I told you my husband and I did hair for forty years . When we retired , we a lot of our clients came to see us. We were friends by that time. The one thing we noticed all of our ladies who had blonde hilights went lighter and lighter. We always did a little darker roots and hilights. Now these ladies hair hair like this lady..over processed…too light of roots and scraggly on the bottom. I wrote this before seeing the ending, but know you did a beautiful job. The one thing I did not like is when people say I want wash and go hair. I have thin fine hair. I can make my hair look pretty good, but unless you have extremely good hair you have to work a little bit. Thanks ❤❤❤

I am looking for that little lift you showed, i have a few layers 😢 I used root lifter and heat protector. Have a revlon dryer brush. In my seventies - my hair only goes limp 😮😢 i don't over dry. Careful with low heat. What am i doing wrong?

My mom had the weekly updo, tons of hairspray. It was a process! By week’s end the condition of her hair was a concrete helmet. Thank goodness hair styles, techniques and products have greatly evolved!

Joan looks so much younger than 63, & I love her eyes. I have the same menopausal hair texture problem with a triangle of my hair, front & center. I haven't cut this part in years because it's already no longer than to my ears (& sparse at that) & just breaks off at that point no matter how much I condition, bond, mask, treat it...even after taking Viviscal & using Hairmax & compounded minixidil/finasteride for my female-pattern hair thinning, mainly in my graying areas in front & the upper temples. I HAVE to use around 300° heat to smooth this part out to look presentable. I will be tuning-in December 10th!!! ❤

Justin is correct, at 60 (my Pic is when I was 50) I just went from longer hair to shoulder length shag and it does take a few minutes of work but those few minutes last for days. Unfortunately with my new cut I accidentally singed some hair with the curling iron:( However, hair does grow back and my hair stylist well help me get that under control. Regardless, I know that I'm heading in the right direction with my hair. Also agreed, Joan's nose piercing with the shag cut is a great match. So many older women are getting Bob cuts which make for a harsh look.

Omg! You just explained to me what happened to ME! All i want is layers, messy, etc. But i made the mistake of asking for a shag. They gave me one and my hair is HORRIBLE! It's been thinning and i know layers would have worked as they always have but i didnt know that asking for a "shag" was what you explained ... my hair is a lot like Joan's but I'm brunette - never, ever colored and am turning gray (& frizzy) on the sides now. Which now with this shag, my hair looks super thin and more damaged! I'm a wash, dry & go gal myself, like Joan. Thanks for what you do on these videos, Justin! You're awesome! I know several of older women with bobs. Most are overweight. The view from the back is very unflattering. I call it the “linebacker look.” Wide, thick neck. Short on the sides emphasizes the double chin.

That was really interesting. I'm so torn on the shag. It undoubtedly suits her. She does look loads better with the shag than with the original haircut. It just bothers me, that it looks so much like someone growing out a short haircut and not trimming their neckhair, in between. I've been through that ordeal twice in my life and I think it predisposes me against this particular style. Since short layers and loads of volume suit her so well, though, maybe she should bite the bullet and consider an actual 'long pixie'. I just honestly don't see, how the longish neck hair improves this style, personally. The color is fantastic, though, no qualms about that. And I totally agree on the styling part. It actually takes some effort to make heavily layered hair look good!

I think the comment about hair oil making her hair static was talking about added hair oil after washing it. I happens to me too. I tried those new oils and did nothing good, only static and less volume. I have long blond with highlights and lowlights and greying around sides in front. The only leave in conditioner that gives my hair some shine and a nice healthy feel was one that had bamboo in it. It’s been discontinued tho…

Interesting. I thought I was pretty much the only person on earth, who loathes hair oil. Small amounts give me frizz (which I don't have, otherwise!) and more than 3 drops on my shoulder length hair turn it into an oily mess without any volume. Tried all kinds, natural oils, silicones, nothing actually makes my hair look better than going 'au natural', so to speak.

I love the idea of a bob with side swept bangs. The bob is so versatile with very little effort! She can add a headband to it which would still be wash and wear, but would give it some extra personality due to the many choices of headband/clips/switch part, etc. Dionna and Justin are welcome in Foley, Alabama anytime. I would take like maybe one more inch off the bottom and give her more layers on top similar to the shag. She has enough wave or curl in her hair the wash and -nearly-go. Add mousse, curl cream or a light hold gel and give it a scrunch to towel dried hair. She absolutely adorable 💙 she would also look cute with a shorter cut, short sides and back up to the occipital bone and leaves the top with longer layers and a side bang. 😊 love your videos.
