Dear Hannah, I love your videos and am currently trying to emulate you in becoming a hair dominatrix. I wanted to tell you a little trick I use when I want to wear a middle part after having worn a side-part for some time : I wear it parted on the OTHER side for a full day, so the effect on the volume at the roots is balanced out, so that both sides look the same when you finally do part it in the middle. I hope this helps you a little because I would love to give something back as your tips have inspired me a lot, so much so that I'm making 2019 MY no-buy year! Lots of love from Germany, Sue

Apart from before you wash it, do you do any other brushing or combing of your hair? How do you manage fallout? Do you find that "gritty" texturizing products help keep loose hairs just tangled in the hair until it's time to brush it?
@HannahLouisePoston6 жыл бұрын
yes, I usually brush it one time about halfway or 3/4 of the way through (it's in tomorrow's video) and I do think that the texturizing products help minimize fallout :)

citlali333 | I have similar type hair and I never brush it either, except from when I come fresh out of the shower (not before). I find that all the fallout comes out during washing. My drain is usually full of hair after washing it. I don’t use any product on my hair after washing it, but I don’t think I have a lot of fallout in between washes.

So much work! How we appreciate that! I never thought I would be so fascinated by someone's hair routine lol. I've been trying to go the initial 2 weeks without washing. I'm on my 3rd try and I've only gotten as far as 5 days. I'm going to keep trying though! I know I could go longer if I used dry shampoo but I'm trying not to. I feel like that would just dry my scalp out and so my scalp would still think it needs to produce more oil? I would love to go a full week with no oil and then maybe use some dry shampoo if needed. I guess I'll see what happens! Thanks for the video!

Just getting round to watching the feature length hair movie, perfect for my cosy Friday night in as it's 0ºC/32ºF outside here. My favourite Bumble and Bumble mousse just got reformulated (whyyyy?) so while I was trying to find a replacement I came across an amazing tip I thought I should share. Spray a sea salt mist directly at the roots on towel-dried hair. I did it tonight with my Sachajuan Ocean Mist and followed with my hairdryer and OMG I have the gritty volume of my dreams! I'd only ever used sea salt through the lengths and ends before. I guess it should work well without heat styling too so I hope you give it a try. Have a nice weekend Hannah :)

I'm very intrigued by the methods you use for your hair. this is the type of volume and texture that i would absolutely love to achieve on myself. my hair is very long, fine, straight, and almost sticky (if that makes sense at all) in the sense that it constantly mats. if i go a day without brushing my hair even with my (attempted) messy look with some product, it looks like 1 giant mat by the end of the day and reaches an unacceptably messy look, and will take about 20 minutes to detangle before my shower. let me know if you've crossed this bridge at any point or have advice. i wash my hair every 3-5 days with usually 1-2 down and the rest in high messy ponytail.

This video was for me! This is exactly what I want! I haven't washed my hair with product (just water a couple times) for a full week now and it is disgusting but this is the motivation I need to get through the next week!! Do you think it is worth it to try to go longer than 2 weeks? Is there any extra benefit the longer you go? I'm a new mom and rarely have to leave the house so now's the time if I'm going to do it. Also, have you tried more natural shampoos? Is there any benefit with that? I'm afraid to wait two weeks, wash it with a strong chemical shampoo, and then still have the same problem. I can't remember if you mentioned in your first video, how many 2-week cycles of not washing did it take your hair to stop producing so much oil? Thank you, Hannah, as always
@HannahLouisePoston6 жыл бұрын

Very informative. I do most of the things that you mentioned. Basically learning through trial and error. I’ve been going a week st a time for several years now so I don’t think my hair/scalp trying to adapt..any tips on the itching??
@HannahLouisePoston6 жыл бұрын
If the itching is from dryness, I wonder if overall body hydration and/or scalp hydration could help? Or more thorough exfoliation at the time of washing? These are just guesses though!
@faithtoler39526 жыл бұрын
Hannah Louise Poston thank you Hannah. I’ll try to exfoliating more when I was. Maybe do an oil pack or something on my scalp before I wash to see if it’s dryness that might help.
@heleng52536 жыл бұрын
I’m training my hair to be washed less frequently and have gone from 3x per week to easily 5 days and uncomfortably 7. Hannah 10 days is goals! For the itching I use dry shampoo specifically where it itches. I find the oil makes it itch and this stops when your hair gets used to being washed less often.
@faithtoler39526 жыл бұрын
Helen Garnett what dry shampoo do you use? I think mine actually makes my head itch worse
@heleng52536 жыл бұрын
I use batiste in my hair colour. For me the oil irritates my scalp so absorbing some of it helps, but that might not be the case for you. Dry shampoo is also drying to your skin so you should try to identify the cause.

@LisaDia146 жыл бұрын
Regarding the ends of your hair, how do you keep it from getting tangled or knotty. This the area that I struggle with because of the ends being dry and the fact that so don’t cut my hair often. We incorporate some of the same techniques for volume, like a loose bun. I tried to see how many days I could go without washing my hair and it was three at the most right now. But I still did need conditioner for the ends of my hair because they ended up a mess without. With my hair going through the gigs, your process may be a good thing. When I say going through the gigs, it’s not just a bad hair day. My hair has had excessive amounts of shedding since the spring or so and even though I have a lot of hair to begin with, the amount coming out is not normal. It lost a lot of density and I did go to see my regular doctor and derm over this... it has never done this before so it’s been concerning, especially when I look at pictures of my hair before and what it looks like and feels like now...
@HannahLouisePoston6 жыл бұрын
Sometimes my hair gets really tangled, and I just leave it. I don't mind if the ends are tangled. Or I'll pick it apart a bit with my fingers if it's looking weird. But it might also be the heavy texture of my hair that prevents it from being too bad. Sorry to hear about the shedding!

Another frugal habit anyone can train themselves to do is use the "Lowest Effective Dose." Especially products applied directly to skin, like soaps, cleansers & shampoos! I admit this habit was born out of my brief anxiety-fueled aversion to "toxic" cosmetics. But most "natural" products are poor quality & over priced in my opinion. Using way less can sometimes transform a neglected & forgotten product into one you actually like. Also, I would argue Lowest Effective Dose is not just a frugal habit, but an elegant one as well.
