And I get what you're saying but if you're an adult and you don't have enough agency over your emotions to keep yourself from getting offended at the makeover scene of an early 2000's teen movie, then that's your problem and I dont feel bad for you. Also, if you're going to be like that, the way you say "it's literally just straightened hair" seems to imply that plain old straight hair shouldn't be thought of as beautiful or iconic which could be considered as pretty insulting towards different ethnic groups where straight hair is the norm.

For context, Effie was from the Capitol, where people had more money than brains, and extreme makeup and hair (even plastic surgery) was the norm. This butterfly look was from Catching Fire, where she had to pull Katniss (who at this point was a close professional and personal acquaintance) out of a bowl of one name. This butterfly look was her Capitol Couture attempt to bring color into something very dark. You can even read on her face that she’s not happy with this. It’s almost as if she’s wishing they’d turn into butterflies and fly away, escaping this position.
