When I was a freshman in high school I did a report on the Maori from Aotearoa...then in 2003 I found myself living and working in AOTEAROA ....I met and fell in love with my soulmate...and now in 2019...I am a resident of this beautiful land. I feel I was called here...I dunno which one of my ancestors brought me here but I thank them every day. I love this country. I feel it's spirit pumping through my veins every day. Kia kaha💗

This reflects an indigenous world view, that I myself have as half Indigenous Igbo from Nigeria. We are children of the land and wherever we go we must remember where we've come from, in order to move forward. I can tell you as someone who is half European (family is European by heritage but from Chile) most do not hold the same value and connection as many are European descendants essentially living on soil foreign to them as it was their forefathers like in Australia, America, South Africa etc... Most don't understand as they can not necessarily connect to soil they aren't from or people who are very different maybe even "strange" to them. Many British descendants in Australia, America and Pākeha as their known in NZ, may think of us natives as second class which is not right we are different. The land matters to us, our people matter to us, that's why indigenous people understand each other better in my opinion. I am a Christian so I will never connect to the spirituality of my ancestors but I acknowledge that Nigeria is the land God called for them to be, which is beautiful. My dad for a period of time left Australia to go back home as he felt a call to help his people, our people in our native land.

Love your reactions to our culture! Every haka means different things like this one. Some may talk about suicide and some may speak on political issues facing NZ or globally and a whole lot more too! Love the recognition you give indigenous cultures! Beautiful and powerful to hear you speak truthfully on that! Also just letting you know, an easier way to pronounce ‘haka’ can be similar to ‘ha-car’ Kia Kaya! Kia Ora!

Morana, When you hear the Haka, we are all one. This is so correct of my culture. Kia Kaha. In New Zealand even those of no ancestral ties to the Maori have grown up influenced by the ideology and culture of te manawhenua O te ranagawaipapa. We all are included, this has become synonymous with Rugby and Rugby League and other sports in New Zealand. Our National Baseball team, the Black Socks perform one before a game as well as Rowing, Cycling and many many more. The Haka is a declaration of war, a tribute to a fallen loved one and as a mark of respect. It is a tool of healing or of destruction. Only by accepting your own internal walls can you begin to build a Whare te Oranga

Thank you bro for taking time out to understand the haka and its meaning. Many people think that the haka is just slapping your chest and poking your tongue out, as you can see it is far more spiritual than that. You gotta lot of kiwis subbing to ya channel bro....keep up the good work my friend
