This arc showed how sometimes it can be more beneficial to be a Paramecia than a Logia type. Imagine if Pica was a Logia and felt it every time his stone body parts got destroyed or sliced up with haki. 😬 Trebol even fooled Luffy here making him think he was a Logia. Logias just aren’t so special anymore after Haki got introduced unless you’re like the admirals who trained with logia and haki.

At this point in the story, I do think Doflamingo cares his crew, especially the original 4 executives. After his kind but naive father's decision led to his family suffering and mother dying, Trebol and the other executives gave Doflamingo 1. a sense of agency and control back into his life, 2. provided protection, and 3. told him that his way of thinking wasn't wrong and would supported him no matter what. Don't get me wrong, it's a sick, twisted version of love, but he still cares about them in his own way. In the flashbacks, he raises the younger members and protects them when they get hurt. Before Corazon left with Law, Doffy said he would kill anyone who lays a single scratch on his brother. In the present, despite his executives failing to do their jobs (Diamanté lost the Mera Mera no mi and Trebol failed to protect Sugar), he forgives them and moves on. He'll even protect Giolla and Trebol from Law when he threatens to harm them. However, Doflamingo's love comes with 2 major caveats: 1. you must be willing to die for him if you truly care about him (a messed up version of self-sacrificing one's life for others), and 2. if you ever betray him, he will cut you out of his life with no hesitation. While this is a warped perception of love that most people would not want, a majority of his top officers are okay with it and will support Doflamingo in anything he does.

This is a very accurate description of Doffy's relationship with his family. The irony is, he's still got more of a heart than if he had grown up as a Celestial Dragon; even if they worked together, he probably would have seen the others as slaves if he had grown up in Marie Jois. I think one of my favorite parts of how One piece depicts trauma, is the comparison of Doffy, and Law. Both suffered extreme trauma, both decided that they wanted to get even. But when they were at their lowest, Doffy met Trebol who encouraged his worst behaviors, Law met Corazon who helped him curb his hate.

Toei must’ve not gotten the memo from Oda that Trebol is supposed to be a Paramecia because on Episode 675, he could be seen splitting into smaller pieces and reassemble himself or how he could turn into the mucus and go down the drain. But Oda was pretty inconsistent too due to that time Usopp split Trebol into thirds in Chapter 741/Ep. 674. In general Trebol has the most inconsistent fruit when it comes to classes.

My thing with the whole nurture vs nature thing with Doffy is that even before leaving the celestial dragons at first he's being a piece of shit, like he's abusing slaves and shit? Idk it's definitely a little iffy, Trebol definitely didn't help things lol As to how he treats the "family", I don't think he really has much empathy for them at all. He trusts the executives, but only insofar as they are useful to him. He just presses on everyone's insecurities to make them dependent on him. He's a cult leader before anything else.

It always felt fairly apparent to me that Doflamingo was a master manipulator. He's convinced his executives that "we're all a family, we care for each other", so they don't realize that they're all just disposable tools. When Law and the Straw Hats start taking them down, Doffy's not mad because they're hurting his family, he's mad because they're depriving him of very useful resources that he's put a lot of time and effort into cultivating.

15:12 - 16:10 Regarding the whole "Conqueror vs Supreme King"-thing, let's look at how the terms for three different types of Haki works(side note: Haki(覇気) itself means "ambition; aspiration; spirit; vigour", but when I'll go with literal translations below, I'll keep Haki as Haki for simplicity's sake). Let's start with two more common types of Haki, 見聞色の覇気, Kenbunshoku no Haki(literally Haki of Observation Colour) and 武装色の覇気, Busōshoku no Haki(literally Haki of Armament Colour). Common translations for these two Haki are usually something like "Colour of Observation" and "Colour of Armament/Colour of Arms" respectively. Then we have the rarest type of Haki, 覇王色の覇気, Haōshoku no Haki. For this one, there are two common translations: "Colour of Conqueror" or "Colour of Supreme King", latter one being more literal translation than former one(seperating 覇 and 王 we get "hegemony; supreme; conqueror" and "king" respectively). Technically, neither of translations are wrong, but personally, I prefer Conqueror, since it's more consistent with Observation and Armament, and "Supreme King" feels... clunky, for lack of better term. Now, why these subtitles decided to change from "Conqueror" to "Supreme King" at this point, is a very good question, which unfortunately I have no answers for. Finally, reason why colours are so prominent in translations for Haki types is due to kanji 色(shoku) being used within the Japanese terms. Now, normally 色 is used with terms related to colours, but there are occasions where it's used to describe different types, meaning that alternative translations for 見聞色の覇気, 武装色の覇気 and 覇王色の覇気 would be "Haki of Observation Type/Observation Type of Haki", "Haki of Armament Type/Armament Type of Haki" and "Haki of Conqueror Type/Conqueror Type of Haki" respectively.

If anyone is confused on what Trebel said at 25:51 allow to explain the types of Devil Fruits: Paramecia Devil Fruits are things that people to "Summon" and or "Control" and "Augmentations" to one's body like Doffy's String-String Fruit and Megellan's Venom-Venom Fruit for example. Zoan Fruits they animal Fruits like a Leopard, Bison, and Giraffe. Logia Devil fruits this gets a little tricky because Logia powers are things that are in "NATURE" like Light, Darkness, Magma, Snow, Ice, Fire etc. Treble's may look like a Logia but it's not it's a Paramecia type like Pica's Stone-Stone Fruit

The way I see it, his found family consists mainly of outcasts because sees himself as one and thus empathizes with them. He was a celestial dragon who lost his privilege not because he chose to, but because it got taken from him and he suffered the consequences of other people's choices. He lost his agency at a young age and when he was at his lowest, Trebol found him and taught him the most valuable lesson of his life : If you want your agency back, take it through violence. So he actively recruits people who are down on their luck and had their agency taken from them, looks out for them and teaches them to reclaim it the only way he knows how : Through violence. I find that this explains so much of his actions that wouldn't make sense otherwise. In particular his reaction to Law's backstory and attachment to him as well as why he hates Bellamy and looks down on him.

The nature in Nature vs Nurture is more important than some people think. The best example I have is that a vast majority of serial killers were abused as children, but not all people abused as children become serial killers. Everybody's brain is different and react to stimuli and experiences completely differently. Also, the entire point of Rosinante was to show that it's not nurture with Doffy, he had a brother that went through the exact same childhood and came out pure. People often fail to properly scale Doflamingo, but he not only uses tons of concentration and stamina on the birdcage, he further fights several battles and even micromanages his bodies performance and endurance. This is not a fight Luffy vs Doflamingo... this is a very wounded and exhausted Doflamingo vs Luffy (who typically just needs a decent meal to be fully healed somehow). The assumption Luffy would win a neutral 1v1 at this stage is quite risky. Luckily he doesn't have to prove it.

No you're right here. I don't buy the narrative that Doffy was inherently evil, or at least more so than Rosinante. While later as an adult each made their own choices, initially in their childhood, it boiled down to luck and some form of destiny. Doffy was cooked when he met Trebol's group, and Rosinante was saved when he met Sengoku. Their situation could have easily been reversed. Trebol definitively fanned flames that could be doused on their own. It's the same way that Law would be completely different having met only Doffy and not Corazon as well.

Turns out the real evil is bad influences. Doffy easily could've had time had his family not been attacked to learn to be a better person, or even after the tragedy if Trebol hadn't shown up he possibly could've turned out not as evil.

If doffy was left alone with Roshinante after shooting Homing and wasn’t found out trebol, things might have turned out better, but there definitely was a chance of taking that and becoming a pirate or a bad person regardless, just not on the level he was if trebol found him. But yeah, things might have turned out better if he wasn’t influenced by trebol, maybe.
