100% this. Reps already knows that Hal goes "halling" when something doesn't go his way, especially for something little like putting down smoke. Reps is not gonna waste his time trying to defend himself because he wants to move to the next game, plus he knows it wasn't that big of a deal, it's just that Hal had an image in mind of how things should have went and it got to him. The same way that people point out the pressures that Reps may have went through, Hal also goes through pressures of trying to get his team in the best position and things don't seem to be going as planned.

Hal's point is misguided. Jordan wants to win, otherwise he wouldn't have put up with Hal for this long even if they're friends and everythings kosher behind the scenes. Hal doesn't have to insult Jordan to get a better result, I understand the pressures there, but dumping petty bullshit like calling one of the worlds top 5 MnK ALGS pro's a gold player because he messed up the smokes is ignorant. It's high stakes right now, but learning to treat your teammate with respect could completely alter the team morale only for the better. Eventually Jordan will give up on the team because he or anyone else doesn't deserve to be treated the way Hal berates him in front of thousands of live viewers, and even more people who watch the clips later. Seriously stop taking your anger out on your teammates. I'm not telling you how to play the game or even criticizing your IGL skills, I'm saying Hal needs to learn that empathy quickly, because it'd be nice to invide Jordan Big E and Snipe out for drinks in 10 years, instead of wondering why they stopped answering your calls.

Honestly Hal threw here. Not Reps At 2:20 Hal says "I don't care. Im gonna go up. If I die I die" So Hal is fully acknowledging here that he is making a risky play by going up this Zipline in the first place. But in that moment he was just so frustrated that he didn't care if he got knocked Yeah Reps made a bad smoke. But they could have just ran bad to the same rock that they were playing as cover and waited for his smokes to recharge so they can get another try at rotating. Reps may have made a mistake, but the whole team was still alive and full health, so it was a relatively minor mistake. That was very much a salvageable situation but Hal ruined everything by getting impatient and loosing his temper. And instead of immediately realizing that his first instinct was to blame Reps

People like this are so toxic it's completely wrong to label it passion or competitiveness. Anybody who plays football knows this type of person they will hound the minorest of errors you make. All it does is open room for more error and make it uncomfortable to play with you because you are no longer managing the game you are managing this guy's emotions. Even the worst of plays doesn't warrant a reaction like that I don't know how either of them put up with it. This kind of behaviour makes you uncomfortable and actually play worse than to improve because there's an added spotlight and you can't play to your natural gameplay you overthink your plays. He's a great player but he really needs to stop with that shit...

I can understand. As the igl of my masters squad, there are many times where we know what needs to be done if we were playing the character, but we don’t necessarily convey that clearly to teammates since we are processing 75 different things and consequences at once. So we think we are saying it clearly enough but attitude like that will make reps feel pressure to where he is more likely to mess up. Sometimes it happens to me as igl where I lose my cool and I’m not a professional paid player. I can imagine hundreds of thousands being on the line. However, Hal needs to understand he is nothing without reps and Verhulst, and reps and verhulst needs to understand Hal is trying to bring the best out of them in his own way even if it doesn’t seem right always.

Hal threw this game subconsciously to teach reps a lesson. I guarantee reps smokes were on point after this. This is why he is the best IGL. This game isn’t as important as the future games they could lose because of bad smokes. Reps feelings might be hurt for the moment but at the end of the day reps knows hal is just trying to make him better. People get too butthurt and don’t understand the competitiveness these guys have. Mike was ruthless to his teammates on the bulls. That’s why they won so much.

Hal probably could’ve healed then Q zip to make it up safely. You can’t entirely blame reps for missing a bang Q 2 inches on his mousepad. They were simply running around way too much and didn’t com when it was actually convenient to go up zip. Neither enemy team was rushing, they would’ve had enough time if they didn’t run back and forth twice. Hal was just too on the fence between rushing and running, delaying when bang smokes could be used. They both need to realize they were at fault and thats it
@daroniousmaximus

Hal's already said multiple times that he doesn't care what people think of him because this is just how he is and it's worked for him up to now and sees no reason to change. I mean there is a point there to be made. Back in the day he used to chew out Mac every time they played because Mac would always come up with some "great idea" and Hal would have to yell at him to NOT do it. Mac still does this on other teams and no one tells him to back off...which is why he's passed around teams like a hot potato. When Snipedown came back to Apex recently, I remember watching him with the first team he joined and at one point completely losing it and yelling "this isnt how we should be doing it, just do it like Hal does OK!". Despite all the yelling he took from Hal, you see the amount of respect he has for how good Hal actually is and is invaluable as an IGL. So I think Hal and Reps have a high amount of respect for eachother.... and at this point Reps just wants to win.... its his job, and hes used to Hal. Yes, I watch a lot of Apex pro streams OK.

understandable tbh. Hal had every right to be mad here. Their team is not on zone as you can see if you look at the map, and the "nut" that they are trying to stay in that is actually in the zone is occupied, now they're left with 2 choices, either fight the guys on the nut and third party or smoke across/smoke in zone "nut" so they can get to zipline and reposition. Now at the clip where Hal said fuck it, notice how the zone is getting small, it means they are literally running out of time to reposition because if they force a fight there they would just get 3rd partied and basically die. Reps just needed to actually properly smoke either across or the team that is trying to take stop them from repositioning. you might say "ah just wait for bangalore smoke".. No you cant if reps used banga smoke on cd thats a 33 seconds wait where they might get pressured by the storm and a team. Yall just hatin bc you hear a man screaming at his teammates hurting his wittle feelings, then automatically go to the emotionally injured one, Hal is just keeping it real, Reps missed 2 smokes and Hal said it how it is.

TSM gets the results they do because they have those hard conversations. They overcome and adapt. Most people couldn't handle that type of team environment, but I think Reps is used to it and knows how to shrug it off and move forward. Also if you're too nice or passive about things it can take 10 times longer to drive a point home. They don't have time for that. In comp you either play as closely to perfection as the situation will allow or you fail.

People are defending Hal because they're saying that reps kept messing up the smokes or that he was taking too long. But reps multiple times said that he had smoke on cooldown and let hell know that it was on cooldown. And then if you want the smokes to be at a certain position say that you want them at a certain position. All how said multiple times was smoke them and then when they got smoked was upset that the smoke wasn't good enough. And then ignorantly climbed the zip line that had linocytes from both teams. He was worried about third parties and made the one decision. Chad makes it easy to third party him without the third team having to come out in the open. You can be hard and argue with your teammates, especially when it's competitive, but the way that he drags them sometimes is just not fun to watch and I bet is even less fun to play around
@Miewn
@Miewn 7 ай бұрын
Please like my comment. IGL makes the call for rotation. Requires smokes to mitigate damage so they can survive the zip up. (Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, success comes with full assing not half assing) TSM is triple back-2--back champion. A level of expectation of how to optimize on specific characters and also inter-team communication. Reps & Hal been playing together for years. So if Hal goes "do the thing" Reps should already know what he means by that to a certain degree of course. And if he's saying SMOKE THAT TEAM. He does not mean smoke the inside of the nut. Smoke around it so they're actually blind. And potentially they can survive the zip up. Yes, I am in favor of HAL because when you dump 100k hours of playing this game with the same person, there is a level of expectation that is supposed to be met. Especially in a competitive setting. For REPs to go, 'you shouldn't have died' is just really slapping HAL in the face when he's been pre-com'ing the plan of smoking that team and rotation.

The most annoying thing about Hal is that he acknowledges that hes a toxic ass teammate but puts absolutely no effort into correcting that behavior. They've gotten so many wins that in Hals mind he attributes that success in part to him being a toxic hardass. But the reality of it is, without Reps and Evan....Hal would be struggling to even find a team.

I love this team, they are my preferred winners. But Hal needs to learn that he’s not playing with children. There’s ways to be assertive, commanding and serious. Insults won’t do shit but bring team morale down. I am by no means at the level of IGL as Hal is, but what I’ve learned is that as long as you give CLEAR, LOUD and repeated commands, the team will listen. Also letting your teammates call you out on bad calls has kept my team together.

Hal tells the team he was walking up knowingly he still wanted to go up the zip and rotate. Yells at the team to go back and to smoke them. They could've sat behind the rock until 2 smokes comes back instead of dicking around. js He was literally crossed fire from people at the Armory also. Its so much easier to be toxic than positive. Tone the ego, When you treat the janitor like a CEO, you'll get to places. No one likes going to work just to get b*tched at. Hal needs to do better and be better.
@TruD0G
@TruD0G 6 ай бұрын
later he should talk to reps in private and appologize for letting it get personal and calling him a gold player. Then saying i really do think that those smokes were dog shit and they could have been better. If Hal can admit that he sometimes goes a little overboard and lets it get personal and says personal things that are hurtful, being up front about someone being better and making better decisions and what should be done. Yes of course. I get it, in the heat of the moment sometimes shouting is good and theyve always seemed to do well that way. I know Hal just wants the best that he sees in their gameplay to come out. Hal definitely cares a whole lot about his team mates or otherwise he wouldnt yell. Some people dont respond well to that. Those who can become great. Great leaders sometimes have to push their team mates to become greater. its all it is guys.

I agree with Hal that being firm and not empathetic is faster and more effective to get the IGL's point through. And I usually do not mind the majority of his methods, I talk to my team exactly like he does. But this was unnecessary and also could do more harm than good. It is not black or white. One doesn't have to be either nice or an asshole only, he can be firm, zero empathy, mad too, states facts, even some harsh words are fine. But doing only extreme personal attacks isn't a good method. "WTF Jordan why are you smoking so bad today that's so stupid!! You can't smoke inside that does NOTHING to cover, you should know that" If Jordan agrees then that's it cz disagreeing is what makes Hal angry, cz it means that his teammate will keep doing something he thinks is wrong. If he doesn't, then Hal keeps proving his point decisively with 0 empathy no problem in that. It being that extreme and personal is the problem.

And you are an authority on how competitive Apex should be played? What are your credentials? I completely agree that a gold or a plat level player will probably not make the correct assessment in the heat of the moment, but from reading the comments and in hindsight, it seems that people were correct. Hal did not have to die there at all. He might be a great IGL, can’t take this away from him, but you also can’t deny that he handled the situation incredibly poorly. His teammate made a mistake, he got tilted and died. Maybe we should stop excusing poor behavior just because someone is good at something. Hal might be a great player, he might even be the goat, but he damn sure is not perfect and this is a glaring example.

It's like people are purposely missing the point. Honesty and discipline is fine. Insulting and dismissing your own flaws is another. In the real world your boss can deliver harsh criticism and if your feelings are hurt then that's your problem. But when he starts insulting and berating you then best believe you're getting a call from HR. Yelling? Excusable. Frustration? Fine. Throwing when the situation was salvageable and then shirking all blame? Come on...
