My favorite pilot. Hal Stockman is someone who never intends to be in any spotlight but yet always wows the crowd with his Lawn Mower 3. Plus what I know so far and how do I feel about it. The ACCA really is a great show with lots of super great people. Despite the events that occurred Saturday evening.

I actually was thinking about making a video on how the average person gets involved into aviation. Its often referred to as a rich man's sport. Its not many pilots/aircraft owners are ordinary people, school teachers, mechanics, and yes truck drivers. Some aspects are very expensive but most have an alternative.

I can understand your apprehension. I retired from the military a few years back and I'm at a fork in the road. Trucking or aviation. Dunno just yet. But my advice, keep the faith. Dan is a bit of a character. But, he does have a place in aviation and the experience to back it up. If he falls thru with getting this back to better than before, he will loose ALL credibility in this family (my speculation). Keep faith. Keep communications open and respectful and I believe, this will be an enjoyable hard experience. Mad RESPECT to you for hitting the open road daily...! It's more dangerous than aviation. Nice truck too. 😎🇺🇸😎

I started driving a flatbed and about 10 years into that venture decided to try hauling fuel, and have done that ever since!!! I think I subscribed to your channel and was subscriber #101... It breaks my heart what happened to your plane, but in the same sentence, I am thankful for the good outcome!!! (Any landing you walk away from is a good one..) I love hauling fuel ( Motion Lotion).. That has treated me well and hopefully will have this job till I retire!! I am glad I am getting to know you through your videos and will love to see the day you takeoff in your Cessna again!! Start collecting pieces you know you will need. Make it like a game. Get you team lined up for the repairs. Put out a LIST of what you know you need. Some might donate a cowl or a spark plug, or might turn you on to a guy with stacks of that stuff at fair prices. But most of all, say a prayer to get peace, and STOP thinking of what the plane was before the crash. That is crippling. The plane was always an assemblage of parts. If you can't bear that, maybe it's emotionally safer for someone else to do the repairs. But if you do try yourself, when you finish, that plane will have a piece of you installed in it.

40 degrees flaps with the intent to go around is a little bit of a judgment error. One that in hindsight is glaringly obvious however could be made by anyone, on any given day. It certainly has given me some pause to rethink some risk assessment judgments I have made.

@@VictoryAviation Dan and the owner took a flight around the patch with the intent of landing on the STOL strip if the approach looked good.At well above 100agl Dan decided the approach wasn’t to his liking and went to retract the flaps and they failed.Saying that flaps 40 while making a bid for a short runway is a “obviously “ bad decision is nonsense.It is done everyday.Right now someone is making a short field landing With flaps at 40 at low altitude in a 150.The key is they were making a short field approach with the intent of landing if the approach was good,Dan said it himself.Did Dan do a perfect job on the approach?Probably not because none of us do perfect work all the time.Nothing was “obviously “ wrong until the go around decision was made and the flaps failed to retract.Bottom line is if it wasn’t for a flight control failure we wouldn’t be here discussing it.Saying that flaps at 40 was a “obvious “ mistake is just not real world accurate.Now all the wannabe “Right Brothers”,have at it.

Thank you for pointing out the obvious that is being missed Chris, the dude should either be financially able to self insure or purchase sufficient coverage for liability at a minimum. Only looser in this deal is the farmer. Gryder saved this guy or his daughters life, neither likely would have recovered from the situation. Mansells going to get an airplane in better condition than what he had, his daughters going to get free flying lessons from a great CFI and he’ll probably pocket some GFM money to boot. Will Matt be the standup guy and send the farmer a share of his charity from the GA community to cover crop loss, toxic waste cleanup and misc property damage? We’ll be watching 👀.

@@sethadams4871 You make a lot of assumptions with this comment. None of which you can say are absolutely correct. Did Dan save his life...do you know that Matt would have handled it differently? Will Dan be flying over and training Matt's daughter or does Matt need to take her to see him? Dan has crashed two planes that we know of. With each crash he seems to brag about his skills...I'm thinking starting my own KZbin channel to brag about all the car wrecks I walked away from. @sethadams4871
@sethadams4871 2 жыл бұрын
@@jaredjones6292 I’m not here to defend Dan, but Delta Airlines found him competent to fly and they are pretty picky who they let operate their planes with people on them. And you can verify that in Dan’s crashes, they were a result of systems failures. Guys like Matt who can’t really afford to fly hang around every airport. Personally, I wish it were more affordable. Some skip inspections, avoid insurance or take maintenance shortcuts on old airplanes. These result in compressing the safety margins, which are already thin enough in the GA community. You are right assumptions are involved but if you read accident reports they are littered with low time pilots, flying their own airplanes reacting to malfunctions like engine out, flaps not working, etc most of which wind up as stall spin fatalities. Go figure, are they tempting fate or making assumptions regarding their abilities, who know snug far too many are dying in GA and you have to applaud anyone who’s bringing new perspective to the problem which Grider does without passion or prejudice.
