Thanks so much for this terrific demo. It's really, really helpful--and your fine touch on guitar helps it shine! Besides making some of the best pedals ever (RD Compact is my personal favorite, and a tonal lifesaver with lackluster backline amps), Origin Effects has some of the best customer service. I emailed OE right after the Halcyon Gold was released, and asked where I could hear it pushing an already overdriven amp or RD Compact. Most demos use it into a clean amp. They replied immediately to tell me they would put out a video like this one. I can truly say that this demo checks all the boxes! The adaptive feature has me hooked. I look forward to playing one through my own rig.

Great video, great recordings and really nice, helpful playing. I have most of these so it’s good to see them paired up with the new one. The DCX has become my go-to on every board - it’s currently being used as an ‘underdrive’ after a Kingsley Minstrel. I’d also like to say well done for not faffing around with the usual “this perhaps maybe possibly takes a soupçon of inspiration from a certain famous expensive overdrive” or “this is a bit like a K-style circuit”. You’ve said very clearly that it’s your take on a Centaur + the recent OE goodies like adaptive. The spade is, for once, being called a spade, but with a couple of Swiss Army knife additions. Good.

Watched a handful of demos on day one and nothing grabbed me, but there’s some magic in this one! Also appreciate the comment here about adaptive circuitry - I feel like every time I hear about it, volume knob rolloff is discussed, but I didn’t realize it also adapts to softer playing (which is more my style, dynamics via pick/finger attack). Very intrigued now!

Mine arrived this morning. I gave it a very brief run into an old Valvestate 8080 - perhaps not the best platform. At some point over the weekend, I’ll get organised and have it pointed very firmly at a Bad Cat ‘Hot Cat’. Let the fun begin.

so glad you did this. Now I feel like replacing my revival drive custom with a Halcyon Gold and RD Compact! If only the RD Custom can run one channel into the other!!!

If you could run the RevivalDRIVE channels into each other (they share circuitry which is in part why you can't), it would be akin to pluggin a Marshall head into a Marshall head. Adding a Halcyon Gold to your rig with the RD Custom would give you a 2-channel amp sound and something to push into them! A great combo.

@@OriginEffectsUK ahhhh, great idea actually. Not sure why my mind didn't think to that right away. A Halcyon Gold into my RD Custom does seem like a badass combo. I can run into my Valve Rectifier side currently set for edge of breakup sounds to get more drive and into my Silicon side currently set for heavy breakup for a even heavier push. Halcyon Gold shall be added to my cart. Thanks for the suggestion!

Does this make up for the complete lack of ability of most of us to try your pedals in person before buying (I live in Canada’s largest city, and need to order from its second largest via mail…)? NO!!! Does it at least help? Yes! More sound sample based Q&A videos please! For example: how would you approach boosting/overdriving the Super Vintage for use in a relatively modern higher gain bass tone? Or, what are the limits of the Revival Drive(s) for being overdriven (as opposed to boosted) before the low end is overwhelmed, and how to address that? Thanks. Cheers

The Halcyon Gold will react with treble bleed circuits just as it does non-treble bleed guitars. The interaction between the pedals voicing and a flatter frequency response happens entirely within the pedal and is level/clipping dependent rather than impedance. The idea of the Adaptive Circuitry in the Halcyon Gold is that, when driving, the pedal exhibits its mid-forward voicing. A voicing that removes both low and high end, boosting mid frequencies. As you roll down your volume (or play softer) to get back to a clean tone, the adaptive circuitry slowly turns off this voicing as to restore a full-range signal.

I can’t decide between the green, blue, and gold Halcyon. I need a pedal to boost my other overdrive/distortion pedals or my UAFX Lion. Can someone help me out which one to buy?

Personally, I'd be going green or gold in that situation. Something a bit tighter that'll keep things tight when using higher gain. The Blue is really broad in its voicing by comparison.
