Mahalo for this treasure! I grew up as a teen 60's surfing family living on rip between Laniakea & Himalayas ... and went Waialua High. I live Kona now as NS & town is way too much for me. But Hale'iwa and NS will always be closest to my heart and home for me.

i was living in Haleiwa during this time glassing surfboards for Bill Barnfield cruising my old 4 door green 74 valiant " Da War Pony " seeing this sure makes it feels so so long ago ,, i remember the the bypass going in and the market place being built in a strange way that was kind of the end to the old town ,,back then u could go out Mokuleia side and camp / surf and not see anyone for days the sand and ocean were so clean it was so unbelievable ,,

Love this little town - I call Home. Moved to Hawaii in 1987 and moved to Haleiwa in 1989 . Thanks for sharing this .

My dad was in Haleiwa and Waialua in 1946. I was born there in 1961. My family’s roots run deep there, but, the last two years I felt like I was the tourist in my own home. Everything has changed. Plenty stores gone. All da land being sold! 😢💔

Hawaii is being sold out because of big money involved and then it drives up the prices forcing the locals out.

Thank you for sharing your history. I was born and raised in Florida .I to have seen my home state being destroyed over development.This is the only way we can save our history and memories. It's sad .I am 53 and alot of areas that ,I knew.are.gone.Keep your history alive through your children.

First time Going to Haleiwa a few weeks back. I wish I was there now. The feeling of something missing and being homesick is upon me at this moment
