Just extracting honey from the last of my supers this year. I've noticed all the frames are full of "heather honey". Is there a simple way of extracting heather honey, as it doesn't come out using extractor? very thick consistency.
@gwenyngruffydd3 жыл бұрын
You may need to either scrape it out with a spoon…carefully not damaging the foundation. Or you could buy a hand held heather honey losner Or you’ll need to press it out.

Hi ive just inherited my first hive which had been abandoned. The problem im facing is that my brood are in super frame. Any ideas how i can transfer my brood from the super frames to deeps? I help would be much appreciated.
@gwenyngruffydd3 жыл бұрын
I would take any Queen excluder out of the hive and winter them as they are. Feed them if they need it. In spring shake the bees down into the brood box one frame at a time, put a Queen excluder over it then place the super back on top. After 4 weeks all the brood will be gone and it will just be honey.

Do you not clear the bees first?
@gwenyngruffydd7 ай бұрын
Yes with clearer boards. But bring the blower as backup
@Dave-uw4wb3 жыл бұрын
Excellent result Gwenyn , is there plenty of time for the bees to get their own winter stocks , or will they rely on your to feed.
@gwenyngruffydd3 жыл бұрын
Yes, most of the brood boxes are heavy with stores already. And the balsam is still flowing and there’s ivy to come. Won’t need to feed much this year.

Just about finished my intro to beekeeping course here in Scottish Borders, so the more I watch and learn the less I seem to know, my question is how do you clear the bees from those honey supers. Great videos please keep em coming

There’s no bees in the boxes. I’ve used clearer boards. The bees that are flying around are robbers. Most of them fly off before I leave the first field.
