I once saw an interview on a channel with a pure nigerian woman who was born and raised in Ibaraki, Japan, and she said that she grew up being fully accepted and treated as Japanese by the Japanese people around her. She said that when she went to the US for the first time, she experienced racism for the first time and was told by Americans that "you are not American" even though she speak English fluently. Every time I often hear half-Japanese and foreigners living in Japan say, "I am never treated as Japanese," I think they are lacking something.

So… I can’t imagine I had that different of a childhood than other kids… in our area (conservative/republican) we had a mish mosh of different cultures who attended our school and we simply never had any of these issues. We went to school, did our work, played in the grass and dirt, had fun, and went home. Race was no factor. I'm Brazilian and growing up in an area with a large japonese community my neighborhood, half of my classmates were at least 2 generations Japanese born in Brazil with japanese grandparents in both sides and they'd never been seeing as japanese in Japan. (according to them)

A friend of mine is Brazilian of Japanese origin. 2nd generation. He is Brazilian and it shows. The mannerisms and posture is different. It's like Americans of European origin coming to Europe. Even without saying a single word, the locals spot these Americans easily.
