The dock leading to the rest of Ravenholm is not something the creator of the mod made. That's from the unused E3 2002 map where it doesn't end with you falling in the water but by going to the rest of the town, which refutes this being just a test map for E3. The path to the docks is even still here in the final map, blocked off and cut off, but it was never removed completely so Half-Life Overcharged restored it which was forgotten about due to all the problems that mod has.

Although mods like RTBR and Dark Interval are amazing I feel like they change the vibe too much and while being "dark and gritty" don't have the same eerie vibe the actual beta had because they're so polished. The unfinished look with simplified lighting is part of what makes the beta click for me and why I like this mod, idk how to describe it it's just something you know if you know. It's like ine of those weird yabujin/gyrotta zao jumpstyle videos; you can't describe it but you complete understand the feeling it gives off.

This is a great mod, I always had this idea of collecting all the best beta maps and connecting them together in the form of a campaign to make a playable beta from start to finish - a 'beta adventure'. Of course something like Dark Interval has higher quality but this one is more so aligned to the leaked content.

This is more like a demo game, an exhibition of ideas for HL2. It is impossible to make a full beta, because of big portion of maps just doesn't exist in the leak

I am a sucker for any beta content It would be nice to see fan-made maps that weren't in the leak but it makes sense why he didnt a very coll project but I use a Mac so getting it running on vm (virtual machine) was very buggy and crashy so I just used my mum's old computer to play this and it was very nice seeing the beta it just gives a feel like these are testing maps and in-dev maps which these are and i really like it

With the ending, my personal theory is that gman keeps sending gordon through while gordon slightly makes events better leading to a less and less dystopian version of the combine. One man can't take down the combine alone, but one man with an all powerful friend that can effectively multiply him through time could be the force needed to stop it. Hes in the right place at the wrong time, over and over. The combines only weakness is the butterfly effect, and the game we see is potentially the final run. Gordons memory is wiped for every run and we only get vague memories of the world before our current timeline. This makes beta canon to me.

What I'd want somebody to make is a boss battle against the Consul. I feel like it would be a lot more climatic and more difficult than the retail Breen boss battle. I would also like to see somebody to make actual maps for Weather Control. Both of these do exist in the Half-Life 2 Beta Minimalist Mod, but aside from meme value, they aren't obviously very good.

The whole "Timeline" thing at the end reminds me of Half-Life: Alyx and the direct implication of the G-Man toying around with multiple timelines to influence the course of events. While his motivations and intentions remain ultimately mysterious, something that's been bouncing around in my head for a while is the fact that "Half-Life" doesn't have just one main protagonist, the first person view bounces around from individual to individual to tell a broader story than just the one around Gordon Freeman. It doesn't seem impossible that if some kind of good ending rests at the end of seemingly endless and escalating tragedy the games take place in, it might not be Gordon alone to be the world's savior but several others as well, or maybe even instead. It might even be possible that at some point Gordon is unable to go ahead any further, and is resigned to the role of heroic sacrifice so others may go on. Whoever these other individuals may be, they might not necessarily all be from the same timeline. It could be that Earth's salvation rests in the possibility of individuals unknown to the Combine of the prime timeline leaking into that timeline and doing things the Combine could have never expected.

I dont understand that why the community is trying to replicate original BETA storyline so much ? I mean it is just the darker version of the retail storyline afterall ? They could've made an original game by left assest from the BETA already. Let me set it up like this. We have concept art, we have gut cut content and we have creative minds to bend the game any direction we want. So why dont we have an SCP style universe in Half Life too ? For example, People gonna make their own cities, citadels, consuls/Breen or combines, xen creatures maybe hell even new characters. All we do is just recycle the same ideas over and over again. I saw some of fan arts of custom Xenians, you can find them by searching on internet as well.
