The entire section starting from 37:54 to 40:01 is really a perfect display of Benry. Rather than follow a storyline or concrete dialogue, he follows an emotional beat and controls its direction until he no longer wants it. This paired with an almost uncanny natural ability for cartoon logic makes him so damn memorable. Like, when he *insists* he and Gordon were best friends then drops it as though he never said it, it really plays like a distorted "wabbit season- DUCK season-" bit. Or when he's taking their fastfood orders, he stutters and everything but keeps the energy up before slowly leaving. Absolutely love it.

I consider myself decently creative dialogue wise, but I find I would probably be stuttering while trying and likely failing to find some way to reply to the completely insane things the other four say it was mostly improv, too. You can tell, especially with Wayne, that there's little to no planning or script. Playing the sane straight man when everyone else is utterly fucked must be a bit stressful.

Best part is in reality they’ve said that the people playing the scientists had to keep the guy playing Gordon in line bc it was so hard for him to hear everybody, so the only way to keep things moving was to corral Gordon by saying things and doing things that made him move forward. So canonically, Gordon was taking care of the scientists AIs, but in reality it was those actors keeping Gordon in line. It makes rewatching it even funnier imo

People talk bad about Darnold, but I think he's there not only to give Gordon his chaingun-arm, but also to serve as a look into Gordon's psyche at this point in the story. Darnold seems to be an example of the average "everyman", much like Gordon was early in the story. Due to him staying in his underground laboratory the whole game so far, he isn't aware of the events happening in and around Black Mesa. When Gordon is confronted by the trio of soldiers, he is quick (and even eager) to kill them with his newfound weapon, much to Darnold's horror. Really shows how important context is, especially in a situation like this.
