Holly, the warmup which you start around 4:40 - 9:05 is really great! I think you should make a separate video out of this and expand maybe?

Thanks for the upload. For me, getting my calves stretched is the most important of all. Makes a big difference. Sometimes I stop running to stretch them, even when I don’t feel any tightness, and I feel new again

Going to try and implement this warmup as best as I can before a trail half marathon in a couple of days. It will be my first time to really warmup properly before a race so I'll be interested to see how my 62 year old body holds up. Thanks for the great video!

Great video...Could you also share a few pointers on how to manage the "rehydration"... what to eat/drink, when to eat/drink before and during the run, so that the body is optimally charged for a good run... the indications from the system are usually when it has run out and without the anticipation that the run is going to continue, hence the question...!!!

Thanks for these great videos. A little tipp: the written text is not terribly helpful while following her talk. So consider either leaving it out or breaking it down to something that gives more orientation. Maybe a small list at the side, reading something like "1) Start location 2) Bib 3) Spare time 4)..."

Once I was watching how a professional athlete is warming up before a race on a track!!! 400m!. Nothing but SHUTTLE running within a distance about a 30-50 meters for about 15-20 minutes. In fact I found out that it really keeps your heart rate pretty confined.
@ylange7 жыл бұрын
What is the point of getting the heart rate up in warm up (or in fact the point of the whole warm up) if I'm always gonna have 10-15 mins of standing around waiting for the race start? Thanks
@Psysso7 жыл бұрын
Yuval Lange time it so you stand still only 2-5 mins?
@ylange7 жыл бұрын
Psysso thanks, but especially in big races it's impossible not to be locked in coral for at least 15 mins
@TheRunExperience7 жыл бұрын
Hey! Good question. It's not as much a matter of getting the heartrate up super CLOSE to the race start but more of just getting it up BEFORE the race start. By getting the initial HR spike out of the way, you will more easily adapt and transition to heavier breathing and higher HR once the race has begun. Leaving that first spike to happen once you're in the race feels a lot tougher on the body and as a result often makes you a little slower in the beginning as you take the time to adjust. Being a little more "ready" at the beginning helps you settle into your "race pace" a lot more efficiently. Hope this helped a little!

Hi Holly! I am doing my 1st half marathon in San Antonio in December! I am super nervous because I have only done many 5ks a few 10ks and figured this should be my next challenge but my mom keeps telling me I'm wrong for doing this :( with no support there I turn to you guys to help me get started! So quick question; I am a teacher so off for the summer and don't know how much should i run now. I have downloaded a 8 week program to start in october but in the meantime what should i do? I currently strenght train 4-5x a week and only run 3x a week 30 minutes or so. thanks for being so helpful!
@TheRunExperience5 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Great to hear that you're doing so much strength training! That plus running 3x a week right now will give you a great base to work from once you start dedicated training for your race in the fall. If you're looking for a comprehensive program with running, strength training, and mobility all mapped out for you, check out the free trial of our Training Club! Now Im a bit scared. I'm still deciding whether to sign up for a half marathon that will be held about a week from now. I was following a 12 week program but I wasn't able to do my 9th and 10th week properly because of a flu (4 of my co workers had it too). I'm not sure if im really ready, but I also feel like Im going to regret it if I didn't try.

Why don’t you sign up and see how you do. Don’t worry about the time, just make sure you finish. Then, next time you do one you know mentally you can do the miles,you can focus on beating your previous time. On the day itself you’ll surprise yourself, good luck!

Hi, thanks for the videos! But to express my honest opinion I think this is way too much warm up for a half marathon. I think you might be better off with a 5 -10 min warm up. Maybe a mile jog. Keeping the heart rate nice and calm because that’s all going to be valuable energy for the long 13.1! Either way appreciate the content!
@cablesandcrochet3 жыл бұрын
I can share of course only my own experience which may be different for other people, but I found that doing a roughly 15 minute warm up does the most for my race times. I had half marathons where I could only warm up for about 5 minutes due to being late etc. and these have always been harder for the first few miles. My PB was actually done after I think almost 20 minutes of warm up (not just getting heart rate up, also including stretches etc.), there's obviously more factors going into a PB, but I feel like the good warmup certainly helped.
