Half Moon Bay Foraging

4.19.2014 (had to redo the video, do to music issues)
Half Moon Bay foraging for mussels and clams.
Spent the day out with my son Ethan and a bunch of other dive friends. Lazyhook w/ Gene, Mike w/ son, ccup w/ pops, rick and the two Kevins... etc.
Pull a couple pounds of mussels before heading to the clam location, and then had flashbacks on how difficult it was to dig for clams, like boot camp hard.
Ethan had a blast, and it was a learning curve for the new folks, but none the least a epic day to be at the beach... (even if it was for digging)

That's no Geoduck my friend. I'm from Washington ( Hood Canal / Pudget sound area). Geoduck are much, much, larger then the clams you see in the video. Nice clams and thanks for sharing.

josh shep These are actually horse neck clams. They’re similar to geoducks and can also get as big. The ones in this video were on the smaller side for sure.

If only there was a way to get better audio with the waterproof gopro case. Maybe an external mic, and then just sync the audio in post.

Horseneck clams, you can find geoduck in tomalas.

Chaeki Lee I was under the impression tomales have gapers or horseneck only. I've been there a few time haven't seen one geoduck.

+Chaeki Lee (Chuck) no way you will find geoduck in Tomalas Bay, i dig geoduck up here in Washington State(Puget Sound/Hood Canal) for the last 20yrs but i was born in SF, ca and my father took me to Tomalas Bay in the 60's to dig horse clams and never did we see anyone dig a duck.

so i was at the beach Building a large hole for a sand castle (dont ask) and while i was digging i hit something hard and so a wave came in and washed it off and i see this shell and im like ohh it must be a big shell so i go tell my sister what i found and she says thats a crab dig it up. so i dug it up and It was a clam and i was so suprised cause he only dug 3 inches down LOL...
